Although you can not export Prores422 directly from Premiere on a Windows NLE you can transcode to Prores422 on a windows system. I edited a music video that was shot with the canon 5D dslr so I have 29.97 fps 1080 HD footage. I want to export the highest possible quality so I can have a "master" to mess with color correcting and then bounce several different formats for various purposes (vimeo, cable tv, dvd etc). I have not used the source monitor much. Can I use the sourse monitor to make a lot of cuts "clips" out of one big clip?  Say I want to take the highlights out of a long wedding ceremony?  Or do I need to do this one the timeline.  Edit clips on the timeline is very intuitive to me and I can do it fast, except for all the spaces betweent the clips. Absolutely ( and I wouldnt do it any other way because it is designed for ease and speed) Try it: 1.Target a Video and Audio track in the timeline 2. Place the long source file in the Source monitor. 3. Locate the  first highlight and Set In and Out Points  ( KBD Shortcut "I' and "O") 4.Then Insert it to the timeline ( KBD "," )   Note: there are a number of ways of sending the selection to the timeline (eg.Insert / Overlay buttons, drag it to the Program Monitor, drag direct to the timeline). You can also take video only, audio only, both. Darg options have modifier keys for insert / overlay ripple-ing Back to the source monitor (step 2)  and mark next highlight selection....repeat steps...etc..... The fast way to edit and avoid your issue is to edit the clips in the source monitor and insert or overlay them to the timeline from there. (There are a number of ways to insert or overlayclips ). Using the Razor in the timeline for trimming and editing  is slow.  Tidying up the mess adds more time. The Razor Tool  is for splitting clips. By the way, I now see a number of affordable PC monitors designed in 1920x1080 (not 1900x1200) , all the more fitting into the desired scenario. No need to scale and worry about that anymore.    That is an important point and worth everyone noting.  Both of the monitors I use in my 2 monitor set up use monitors of this spec.  These monitors are classed in an "AV" type of category because they are also able to be used as TVs ( although they do not have receivers) and also attached to DVD players ,cameras, freeview boxes etc. They are not solely for computers.  They actually have speakers in them and a multitude of input output connections. Subsequently they are usually a higher grade image quality than many puter monitors and of course...no scaling effects if one has 1920x1080 rez on them . The HP Dream Color is not my own and not my usual set up.  The freelancer uses it for his own edification ( and gratification).  Most times he uses my set up and is entirely happy with it as well. ... How do you get video in and out of your system? All media used here is ingested as files ....for a digital file based workflow.  Files that do go back to digitral tape (Masters for Broadcasts dubbs and archive) are done at a facilty that uses Kona / AJA cards. That Quadro FX 3800 has Displayports (x2) and 1 DVI (any two outputs are active at a time but not all three) We only use two and are very satisfied that we have our  "proper monitoring"  needs covered and from an off the shelf card at that.. ... Shooternz, you said you use the Dreamcolor. I think I'll probably get one myself. It requires a true progressive RGB signal to work properly, which my new MXO2 mini can supply. But it can also take a Displayport connection from a VGA card which also, by neccesity, supplies a progressive, RGB signal. I assume you are connecting your Dreamcolor thusly if you are not using a third-party I/O card like BM or Matrox to drive it. What card are you using? Card is a Quadro FX3800 I think that Dave may use the Display Ports to drive the Dream Color when he comes in... although I have heard him mention EIDD Managed ports. (DV-I) I just dont really know what he does.  Maybe he loops thru.  He is not around to ask. He is a freelancer. @ Pete I'd be really interested to hear if the active controls are for video or desktop graphics. Just checked...Not sure how or where I see that info in the Nvidia control panel.  I note that I have set the card to use the applications to control color space (ie NOT Nvidia Control). Full-screen video being sent out of Premiere seems to go through the Desktop, i.e., "NOT VIDEO" pipeline.  I think this may be the entire problem I am encountering and explains why video playing full-screen via WMP looks terrific while the same video playing from within Premiere is washed-out due to the black level being raised.  Is this coincident with others' observations? Well, not "free".  Just "already paid for" with the graphics card we buy, which is more than capable of doing the job. Capable ....how so?  Wouldnt that require the graphics card to have "pure video" type connections and RGB to "pure video" convertors built onto them.  (Like the BM Cards).  Still dont think that Hardware is Adobes role in this feature request which I also see as coming from a tiny minority of users. eg.I dont see any one (identifiable) from the likes of the BBC, WETA Studios, TVNZ etc... requesting a 'proper monitoring solution". That's what needs to be eliminated.  The ability of Windows to affect the output of the timeline.  All calibration should be done on the monitor. I disagree.  You need the abilty to set up  hadware thru' the pipeline.  Garbage out = Garbage... no matter what picks it up. Win 7  Color Mangement (as does Mac Color Management) combines with calibration on the monitors if they have that facility.  Not so different , in analogy,  to setting up the camera and setting up the field monitor or setting up a telecine and setting up the CC Monitor.    Setting up final stage only is pointless. ... The set up is Default Adobe Premiere basically. (I slightly customised the layout within that) When CS5 installs ...the Default Edit Workspace is a single GUI even if 2 Monitors are connected to the graphics card. Playback to external device is a Sequence Set up setting.  It is not Global.  It monitors out at the resolution of the sequence. No up or down scaling is involved. That upper monitor shown is a Samsung xx2440 . Full HD  (It is extremely crisp and MAC users often comment on its quality) (HP Dream Color monitor can be  used in same place when prefered - I dont own it but have easy access to one) Lower monitor for the GUI is a 27 inch BENQ. ( I find this to be plenty of real estate to deal with ergonomically. A splitter  can send the signals to other playback monitors ( client, meeting room) It is placed above the other for easy eye ergonomics for editor and its is adjustable (tilts)  so both monitors can be viewed on exactly the same viewing angle.  ( A potential problem with all flat screens that I have eliminated.) I have set up the monitors to image match using the excellent facility in WIN 7 Color Management using Bars and Pluges, Grey scale cards and the scopes in Premiere.   Very easy and straight forward todo by eyeometer but if needs arose...I could use one of the set up gears often mentioned in this forum.  (FWIW: It is impossible to absolutely match the purple pluge and no way of doing so in my experience). Therein lies the current problem.  If you can drag something onto the second monitor, then Windows is managing it.  The nVidia display driver has some control here.  It's a VfW situation.  That is what we need to change. Jim - do you  realise that in the way I have my set up working...I have no means or ways  of dragging , minimising / maximising  etc  the image in the 2nd monitor .  It is fixed and centred in the 2nd monitor at the rez of the sequence and the source material when played from either Program or Source in the Premiere GUI. It is not a Window or a Pane. It is not an extension of the Premiere GUI. It has no borders or frames. It has no draggeable handles.
