It is really really annoying in this new forum format that one does not know..who one is responding to. This must be fixed for ease of communication and understanding. Actually..I have no 3rd party and in fact...I was wrong... I confused the fact that I had my 2nd monitor working with the "greyed out issue". I am greyed out as Colin B reasoning points out. Not an issue. I will be reinstalling 3rd party hardware soon to see what it does for me.

So what is your "hardware or video driver" ? What is your OS and platform? Whatever..my playback settings are not grayed out with a trial version so thateliminates the "trial version pssibilty"

FWIW: It is not a "trial limitation" I am using a trial version with multiple monitors. (2) Check your settings when you create a sequence.

Out of interest.. what color grading application are you using and what specific features are you looking forward to in SpeedGrade? Currently for any in-house post...I use the CC tools in Premiere as well as Resolve Lite. At times Colorista and MB looks will be part of the CC / Grade process. I avoid using AEFX for CC mainly because of lack of scopes. Broadcast legalising is an essential part of my CC / Grade workflow. (CC outside of here is always Da Vinci Resolve and Flame) I particularly like the Node approach in Resolve and although not "nodes" I look forward to Speedgrades "layer" approach which will be similar in effect. I am hoping SPeedGrade has the same "sensitivity and finesse" that Resolve has. Premiere CC tools are difficult to be subtle with IMHO. I do not know what masking / power windows SpeedGrade will bring. I hope they are relatively powerful because its important to me. Crossed fingers. No idea what blurs are available and not sure how SPeedrade works secondaries. I also anticipate that SpeedGrade wil have a reasonably easy workflow between itself and Premiere despite no DL.

@ Islanders66...you say this.. The more I look into SpeedGrade the more I think I'll be upgrading sooner than later. I'm already using a color grading/correction that uses layers and "looks" Then almost next sentence, same post ...you say this... However, no dynamic link for SG might make me hold off for now as I'm not into exporting without the option to go back and change things I do not know of any CC application that uses DL as of now. It is quite normal, currently, in the professional arena to use intermediates, xml, edl and cdls to flip between applications. Until Adobe brings DL to the Speedgrade / Premiere "table" ( and I am sure they are working on it)...we all will have to have patience...but meantime...the workflow Adobe shows us for Premiere & Speedgrade...looks simple and easy to go with for now. BTW: out of interest...what is your current application that you mention ? ...."color grading/correction that uses layers and "looks"

Premiere is very good at managing whatever you throw at the sequence. I assume your entire sequence plays back o.k? The mystery is why it wont render a certain section even though it is covered by the Work Area Bar.( It is isnt it?) Does it stop at the same point each time you try? (What is at that point?) Try Rendering from the Menu Options for rendering instead of the Enter Key.

Relax. Nothing condescending or negative in what I posted and not meant to offend in anyway. I was simply only stating what I know others do about upgrade cycles of the product. Understand entirely that you are upgrading for Speed Grade. ( So am I...but I am not complaining about it.) In fact I cant wait to write the cheque and get to work in the new version. FWIW - one edit gig will repay the investment. I would be worried about my business if it took a year to do so.

I understand the increased productivity with each upgrade. I just bought this less than a year ago and already time to upgrade before I've been able to pay for the software. I think people will need to consider the accelerated upgrade cost when trying to get started. Maybe have a break on the first upgrade within a year of purchase, but it's more important to you for Adobe to make more millions than for the little guy to catch a break every now and then? Its not compulsory or obligatory to upgrade. Many do not do so on every advance and stick with a version they can afford or are comfortable with.

This release appears to be an incredibly exciting one and congratulations to the entire Adobe team. Cant wait to get amongst it. (especially ....Speedgrade!) Be curious how backwardly compatible it is with CS5.5 Projects but assume that it wont be an issue. Be keen to see what others are considering for "new hardware" to accompany this release. ( Maybe a thread could be started in this regard) My order is going into my Adobe dealer today whatever.

You can edit Prores HQ or Prores422 or Prores LT in Premiere (assuming a suitably empowered system.) HQ is probably excessive for your needs. 422 is more than adequate and LT would do the job fine. They are just different datarates. lasvideo is telling you that you can not encode to Prores from a PC but thats not an issue in your case. FWIW : It is actually possible to export Prores from a Windows PC. ( another story)

....I just did a 5 day shoot in HDV... What exactly is your HDV? ie. what camera did you use and tell us a bit more about your files. I am assuming you shot to HDV tape but maybe not.

The BG of every track in the sequence is ALPHA. ie. there is no color. You neeed to use a Color Matte for what you want to do,

I use wmv to avoid the QT gamma issue. Unfortunately many clients use the review files to make IQ judgements. I get more negative comments when I do QT (h264) than I do with wmv despite the fact there are no issue with the files they are produced from.

WMV is used a lot ( by me and my clients and I assume many others on all platforms because no one ever tells me they cant use it). WMV is a great option for Windows Users. It avoids Quicktime issues such as gamma and PAR weirdness. What are you going to do about it?

so one shouldn't need to install anything further to work with any media from a P2 card. Actually....I think you do because I think that DVCPROHD etc is included in the P2 mxf from Panasonic http://panasonic.sixbullets.net/ I do recall that I had to install P2 drivers in my systems when I was using P2 mxf media.

The original files appear to be 720p MXF from a Panasonic ( HVX P2 type of camera device) Edit those natively without conversion. You may need to install the P2 codec from Panasonic.

FWIW. I (and I assume most others) dont see the issue ... and I dont do "drudge work". I also edit files more designed for editing than mpeg-2 and mp4 and I rarely use subclips. Have you tried different source files? Conforming when I first load source files takes seconds and does not re conform next time the project is opened. The O.P in this thread has had some areas identified by Harm that seem logical. Be interesting to see how he fares.

Shift -Click to Select all tracks - Pg Dn or PG up goes to edit.. (you can also shortcut key any tracks to toggle targetting. I use 1 - 8 for video and Shift 1-8 for audio.) I have full screen preview ( 1080p) realtime no lag, no additional hardware or 3rd party codecs and that is in addition to the "tilde key" function for any pane. I can apply many Effects and all transitions without need for any preview rendering for smooth instantaneous preview. (Native source footage, multiple layers).(Some effects do require rendering and are identified as such) but while Premiere Pro on a Mac isn’t slow, it doesn’t blow you away. Premiere on my Windows PC blows me away. Premiere has plenty of faults Peter... but IMHO...not one of them from my very short list even made it to your comprehensive list. BTW - a list too long to respond to point by point.

I have had almost 5000 posts since the earliest version of Premiere... and some with suggestions (and feature requests) from a professional user POV. All ignored. ...then "FCP Switcher Peter" (admitted prosumer) comes in at post #1 and Adobe listens and acknowledges. No wonder the pro users dont hang around or contribute here much.
