There is a litlle STOPWATCH icon next to any parameter setting. I am sure you will see it in the Help File but I do recomend a book like Classroom in a Book for AEFX CS5. Keyframes are what drives AEFX.

There are two ways to set up a project. (Preset) First and best is to match your source footage / images The second is to consider what the end requirement is. (Not the best way but it can work fine) If you want/need HD...user an HD preset from the start...and then ensure that your source will fit without upscaling it. (Down scaling it is fine) Plan your project at the beginning. Sometimes it means kind of thinking back from what you are needing as a finished "movie"

I couldn't resize it to 720x480 and had to settle for 450x467 so that none of the dimensions exceed the parameters. I dont understand the "exced parameters" bit . (Maybe Bill Hunt does) Tell us what is the size of your original images? You really do need to match the size of the project and in the case of still images...a little larger does not hurt at all. Smaller images will be a problem and as you suspect... you are losing quality.

You may want to consider scaling (a copy) of the images to the same dimensions as your project. Use Photoshop or an application such as AVS Image Converter. There are many free Image converters around but ideally you want one that will batch convert.

Increasing noise (grain) is going to be an issue. You cant get detail where none exists due to the exposure. Try LEVELS instead of brightness/contrast. Then add CURVES

I guess you just don't know what you're missing until you've had it (like in Sony Vegas) and now you don't. I suppose I havent missed a function like that because I always craft my effects to each shot in an edit. ( I come from a film background). But...when I do use an overall effect on the program (which is frequently as it happens). I do it in a nest. Example of that is: I edit a tvc in its own timeline. When I output to Master File (for broadcast) I nest the edit sequence into an Output Sequence where it has ID, Countdown, Timecode burn in on leader, and I apply a Gamma Correction Effect* to the nest. * Effect applied for technical reasons in the workflow via MAC FWIW: I can see why some may find an Auto applied effect may be helpful in some circumstances though.

The reason why what you suggest is a really really bad idea is that while you are in the process of editing a program (ie adding clips and changing them) ...you would be "AUTOMATICALLY" applying effects that would all require rendering. This would really slow down the EDIT PROCESS and make it un workeable. Most editors strive for a "realtime" edit experience until they are satisfied with their edit...then they add effects at that stage. (Edit then process effects is kind of standard workflow to save time and effort) Effects applied to Audio do not generally ( or ever) require rendering)

3. Entire video tracks (automatically applying such effects to every clip on the track). This is what you wanted to do. I suggested using the track select tool. Create your effect on one clip eg Noise at 53%. Save it as a Preset. Select the track (Track select tool) Drag the preset onto the selection.

Your post leaves a lot of open questions! Start with...why do you want to shoot HD for a SD output? Use an HD preset that matches your camera first ( that eliminates the "bars") BTW Part I: seems a long time to install. I installed from a download file and t was all over in about 10-15 minutes. Easiest ever and issue free. (Maybe DVD file speed) Reading is good if you are new to PPRO. BTW part II: Tell your wife to not be so fussy. Shoot what you want. You live there as well ( I assume)

There is no preset in PPRo to do this and basically you know what you have to do. But it can be done a bit easier. Set up the whole sentence in a title. (Formatted as you wish to see at the final point) Then create: a "New Title Based on Current Title" (Title menu option when your title is open) Delete a word at a time and repeat the process between words ( ie New Title Based on Current Title )

if you don't use tons of layers and keep it to three with effects, then I would bet a Fermi would do even better than the Quadros out there If that suits you, that is fine... but I dont need to limit my self in this way which is brilliant...because my workflow uses tons of layers and multiple effects. I think Chuck Mcs report above also indicates the reason why the supported cards are beneficial. At the end of the day... editors will buy what they can afford or justify and then get on with EDITING movies. (The only reason I persist in this thread is that I think valuable information is coming out for system builders and users of CS5) eg..What works and how well it works ... I will add to the infobase .... I do not have a RAID system.

To shoot stop motion you shoot "STOP MOTION" That is you set the camera to expose X Frames at Y Time over Z Duration Like - 2 frames every 1 minute over 24 hours (You can also manually take an exposure / frame at a time that you wish,) You could export what you have as a Tiff or tga sequence then select the frame(s) you wish to use and pull them into a new sequence. Hope your movie isnt too long!

I dont think he has any other files apart from what he has already used. He should stick with those for relativity. Some one else will fill in the gaps with experiences in other formats CODECs I will state now - what I use works perfectly with FX3800. If what I use works perfectly for someone with a hacked card - thats their good luck as well. Do not forget this is not a singularity process. It involves: OS, Hardware, Setup, Graphics Card, User input before you even get to CODECS / Formats etc...

That will be interesting. Thanx for doing that and lok forward to the result (even though its kind of academic to me now) I think people really want to compare hacked card performance against the Approved cards. I dont know how that is quantifed all else being equal but the Layer Limits maybe one way. For me... I regularly use 6 to 9 Video layers so I am well pleased with my results. For the Record I am using a Quadro FX3800.

I couldnt determine exactly how many layers he actually used in his "test" He seemed to be having ssues at 4 with both cards.(AVCHD admittedly) and also had scrubbing problems I have gone past 8 layers and kept throwing fx at them all . Still havent broken it or seen a RED render line and scrubbing is perfect. BTW - I have my source and Program monitors at Hi Res setting... and I get same result playing out to the full screen. Well, that's what they told me and I just ordered a $4k laptop based on that, so if its not ture I'm going to call my lawyer. If these mobile cards are not supported it would be a huge mistake, the market for editing mobile workstation is huge and it would be a huge mistake not to support these. The supported cards definitive list has been published for some time to prevent people using cards that wont work in the MPE Technology. The fact is ...you chose to ignore it. Your bad. Whatever, CS5 will still work in your new system but you wont have the MPE advantage.

I doubt this (MPE) will ever open up to really cheap cards because I suspect that it needs the technology and specifics (eg DDR3 ram) to make it work. Cheaper cards ...definitely will evolve. I am amused by how many (wannabees) consider this some kind of "business conspiracy" between Adobe and NVidia! BTW: Easy for me to say as I now have choice of two cards that are supported waiting for install in a new system. (GTX285 & FX3800) I am delighted that Adobe gave us the this heads up on hardware requiremnents by advance releasing the information. Others can knock them but from me...CONGRATULATIONS on this and I thought it has been an inspired launch which will prove to be a serious entry to the Professional market. I have always held the belief from my own experience with PPRO and FCP that it has been a serious (and overlooked) contender since CS2 . My clients agree.
