Well Adobe does have the better "project" ( product) bcause your beloved FCP is no longer a product. Nothing stopping you continuing to use your original FCP7 though! As regards your issue (and assumeably you are on a Mac)...why not see if other Mac users confirm "Adobes dirty little secret" before you go on the "fcp is perfect why cant PPRO also be so" rant. In the interest of more information...what have you done about trouble shooting this your self? Have you tried a sequence without nesting anything? Is it OOS in the sequence and the export? BTW: Generally an OOS indicator comes up when you unlink audio / video. In your edit are you using the linked audio or an external recorded piece? (You mabe experiencing device drift) For the record - on a PC with AVCHD...I do not experience your issue.

Jim...mouse trimming is easier and faster than before...you just need to adapt a little. I suggest you try something different before saying it needs fixing. (Did you even try what I suggested to Toomany?) The mouse is far more powerful and faster than it was previously because of the new Timeline trim functions. They may have been designed around keyboard editing but they incorporate perfectly into a mouse editors workflow if you give them a chance. eg. You dont even need to change tools or use modifiers to do the basic trim functions. (Trim Left/Right, Roll) You bang on how you have one hand on the mouse and one on the keyboard ( I also do this...) ...so try doing so with a new mind set , think it through...and I am sure you will discover the new Premiere. ...and I agree with Kevin. The keyboard trimming...more correctly known as "Timeline Trimming" is a giant step forward and it does rock! I really dig it. I simply had to adapt my workflow a touch and make a couple of convenient shortcuts and its is like editing in a brand new machine. I got so excited about it ...that to celebrate.....I gave my keyboard a birthday present this morning. An air can blow out and a clean up with iso propyl alcohol.

Toggle Trim Type - yes From above you appear to be doing many / all of your edits in the timeline .. with the Razor Tool ( Ctrl-K) FWIW ... I make my edits in the Source monitor initially then just trim in the timeline Either way... creates an edit point. That cut point is what I called the "middle of the edit point" . ie not either side of it. It is easy to locate and lock to because the cursor snaps to it. ie. easier than being a little either side of it to trigger the Trim Type icon of choice. So a little further info about my edit style...I edit with right hand on the mouse and left hand on the keyboard. My customised keyboard is setup for ease of lefthand access. I can naill the edit point with the mouse (or another shortcut) and quickly toggle the Trim Type with the shortcut. PPRO offers so many ways to "skin the cat".

All in all CS6 is incredible, but the fact that I have to zoom way in to make a mouse edit is a huge step backwards. I wish there was a way to turn down the proximity sensitivity so the guys that like it to snap on when it's an inch away can leave it, and the rest of us who want it to only snap on within a millimeter can set it that way. I am wondering if you are saying that you wish to edit and trim in the timeline exclusively with the mouse (ie no use of keyboard at all). but if you are happy with both mouse and some keyboard use...there are a number of ways of acheiving the precision you want and here is a very simple example. Setup a keyboard short cut to "toggle the trim mode" (eg.the CS6 default) Then just select (snap to) the middle of the edit point with the mouse cursor...toggle the trim mode and make the trim with the mouse. This can be done without extensively expanding the timeline.

Simon. I dont think it is messed up at all and I feel it is vastly improved in CS6 with the new choices I started this thread only bemoaning the precision of my mouse (in CS65) but a little bit of a paradigm shift on my part and a bit of further customisation of my keyboard settings ....has proven to be very productive for me. I am delighted and actually feel refreshed and upskilled by the changes "forced" on me. FWIW - I have always been a "combination mouse / keyboard style editor". I have no desire to work entirely with one or the other.

If you want to have the "T" behavior in the Timeline, the closest would take two shortcuts: one of the above shortcuts, then press Ctrl+T. Thats what I thought and thats how I will do it. I am really o,k with this and I am blitzing my edits today. All good here and in fact ...I am really up to speed with this now that I made the little customisations.

That is pretty much what I was saying. Whatever...here is my "solution" and I am very happy with this because its working well in practice. I have customised my customised Keyboard settings to adapt : "Z" = Zoom in ( previously "+") "Shift Z" = Zoom Out ( previously "-") These are better located for me. "Z" was originally the shortcut for the Zoom Tool ( which I never used before). It is even marked as "Zoom" on my Logic Keyboard so that is very convenient. I also mapped "Shift T" to my custom set ..as the Trim Mode Toggle ( as it is in the CS6 Keyboard settings). I now want to find a single KBD setting to take me to the nearest edit point and set a Trim Mode ( from which I can Toggle to the others.) ie. I know there are five different Trim Modes shortcuts available. - I want ONE ONLY to locate the edit point nearest and get into Trim Mode just as if I had clicked it with a mouse cursor..

What seems to have happened is that because the Trim Modes needs to be "indicated" by a big fat symbol ....at ...and either side of the edit point...the editing precision is lost for those of us who are frequently cutting and trimming very short scenes in our timelines.eg. 6 - 30 frame cuts In a TVC I regularly cut in this region ...and in CS6...I am constantly having to scale up the timeline to get in the edit point zone. An added few actions for me. I cant actually suggest anyway to resolve it for myself (even as a feature request) so I will have to live with the tyranny of the keyboard shorcut exponents who have migrated in here from FCP and Avid!!!! - a thousand curses on you lot. Just an observation ....but I think that CS6 has turned my mouse into a blunt object! Like filleting a fish with a blunt knife. I have cut a handful of small projects with CS6 since its release but I am currently in the middle of cutting 8 TVCs. This experience with CS6 has confirmed my observation that the new timeline trim tricks and functions seems to make me feel as if I am cutting with a blunt instrument compared to previous versions of PPRO. If the mouse cursor is not precisely positioned...one does not get the trim action or result that one wants so easily. ie. Fiddling around until the desired trim indicator shows. Working in a scaled out timeline makes things easier but it never felt this difficult before to get onto and edit point at either end of a clip. With clients besides me...I have never felt so bumbling as this makes me look! BTW - I am using combinations of mouse, shortcut keys and modifier keys.

I dont have the need for either device and have full 27" HD (native scaling) display running full time reflecting playback from Bin Preview, Source and Program (Timeline) monitors. ie "output of the edit footage" I use CTRL-Tilde on any of the other panels for additional workspace when it suits me but not for any playback monitoring. FWIW. Zero lag of images or audio.

I certainly agree that the name "Output File" is not very informative and could be made more so and more intuitive. ie It could indicate that it it is also possible to set an output path from there as well as naming function. eg. 'Output: Filename/ Dir.Path'

For the benefit of others ...the location where it was eventually found was accurate (variables depending) as described Application Support/Adobe/Premiere Pro/6.0/my.kys Library / Application Support / Adobe / Premiere Pro / 5.5 / [your custom named shortcuts].kys Its just that your system was hiding it from you for what ever reason. Thread jack IMHO - This thread has gone past its use by date but one thing shows up for me as I followed it. The format of this forum makes it very tiresome to access last (most recent) post on page three of such a long thread. The script error occasionally slows things down to an intolerable degree. A page navigation bar at the top of the page (as well as the bottom one) might help somewhat.

Just to be clear...I was impressed with the time ( 1 hour) it took to stabilise my 4 minute clip. Also : I had to stabilize the entire clip because it was a one scene, movie for a short film competition.

FWIW Win7 CS6 24gb ram i7 During the weekend I used Warp Stabiliser on a single avchd clip of 4 mins..6 secs duration. ( Effect Default settings) The entire process took approx. 12 minutes per minute of footage and was successful. I exported the clip as an intermediate from the project I had set up just for this stabilising task.. Issue then was...it was taking a very long time to save the project...so I cancelled it. (Did not have time to wait for it) Project size bloomed from 384kb to 17325kb

That's fine, but we need to be able to navigate clip markers in the sequence. Not sure why but keen to hear about that in your workflow.. I set a clip marker in the source and it appears on the clip in the sequence. If I need to edit it..I double click the clip back to the source monitor. I can now drag the marker or edit it etc. Does that work for you?

You might realize that we still edit video sequentially, just like a tape machine . I am sure many editors may still have need to edit that way for their own reasons. Others may prefer to edit in a non linear fashion. (I for one, certainly have no need for ,and would not wish to return to the linear tape editing workflow..especially from a file based source footage) What ever...I was only suggesting that editors give a chance to use the many control tools provided to get the job done....before gnashing their teeth and tearing their hair out. I call it adaptive learning. For the record... I never used those those controls ever...but I have no issue or disrespect for those that did. I was not part of Adobes "understand the user" program but not surprised to hear from Todd that there is one and I do hope it is biased and reflects the professional user view more than the amateur or hobbyist.

Storm in a teacup! Why not spend a little more than a week to see if you can change your fixed paradigm and see if the new version actually does the job ...and that you can adapt. (Maybe move forward, adapt or get lost in the rush by those that can) My bet is that from research...Adobe were told that a minority uses the functions ( a hang over from tape machines) and they scrapped it to stay progressive. You can be assured that we users are lucky that Adobe does listen. Hang around a litte and you will see this also. I hope they never listen to the tyranny of the vocal minority though. ( i dont do feature requests anymore and trust them to listen to the pros concerns) BTW - Adobe still produce Audition. ( forget about Sound Booth..it was a real fail)

The constant tinkering with the Adobe User forums has resulted in this less than ideal mess of a Forum Format. The tinkerers seem to be set on some 'FEATURE CREEP' agenda that benefits the back stage of the forum process. eg datamining, data sharing, data gathering. None of that serves the users one iota. The latest forum format seems to be written and designed by those that have no idea how a "real conversation" works in "real life". They probably have only ever communicated electronically ...txt, tweet, email, blog etc. In fact they probably never have had face to face communication experiences. Any forum should replicate a conversation . ie an OPEN exchange of thoughts and ideas. One needs to know who one is conversing with is a good example. Just in case you guys dont know of it...this may help. Hover your cursor over the Source or Program Monitors and use the mouse scroll wheel to make fine adjustments frame by frame.
