We've added Generative Fill and Generative Expand to the September Photoshop and Photoshop web releases. In addition, using Photoshop on the iPad 5.0, you can view generative layer variations created using Generative AI features on Photoshop on the desktop and Photoshop on the web. To learn more about Generative AI, check out the Photoshop Generative AI FAQs.   With Generative AI, you can remove unwanted objects or people from your images, add new objects to your images, change backgrounds, add reflections, extend your images and fill in the blank area, restore damaged or missing parts of your image, and so much more!   How to use Generative Fill in Photoshop Did you know you can remove distractions from your photos quickly, try a new background, or add something just for fun? You can even remove unwanted objects and fill in the space.  It’s really easy using Generative Fill.  I have to warn you, it can be quite addicting! Generative Fill is an amazing new suite of AI-powered capabilities powered by Adobe Firefly that enable you to use simple text prompts to add, extend, or remove content non-destructively. It will blow your mind how Photoshop can match the colors, perspective, and shadows.   Generative Fill is also available in Photoshop for web and Photoshop on the iPad. Photoshop on the iPad: How to use Generative Fill Photoshop on the web: How to use Generative Fill How to use Generative Fill in Photoshop   ❶ Create or open an image in Photoshop   ❷ Make a selection Use your favorite selection tool to make a selection. See: Make quick selections in Photoshop   ❸ Generate new content Click on the Generative Fill button in the Contextual Task Bar that appears.          When the text prompt box appears, use nouns, adjectives, and adverbs to describe what you want to see generated within your selection.  If you are feeling adventurous, leave it blank and see what Photoshop comes up with based on what it sees in the rest of the image.            Click Generate. Photoshop will create a new layer with the generated content. Scroll through several generated options by clicking on < and >. If you want to try again, type a new prompt and click Generate.                Generate a new background   Choose Select > Subject Choose Select > Inverse Click on the Generative Fill button Type a short description of the scene you want Photoshop to generate, or leave it blank for a surprise Click Generate     Remove an object   Choose the lasso tool, rectangle tool, or any other selection tool to make a loose selection around the object you want to remove (include any shadow or reflection) Click on the Generative Fill button without entering any text Click Generate     Generate a new object   Use any selection tool to select the area in the image where you want the object to appear Click on the Generative Fill button Type a short description of the object you want Photoshop to generate Click Generate - For this image, I selected the shirt area and used the prompt 'black jacket'       Helpful Tips Use simple language Try using 3-8 words to describe what you want to see. Include a subject with descriptive language. Avoid commands like “add” or “remove”. Good prompt: A red barn in a field of yellow flowers. Use layers and edit non-destructively When you click Generate, the result appears on a new Generative Layer. Try generating several images and combining them into a composition. Select part of the original image when extending Make sure you select part of the image along with the empty part of the canvas.       Expand your image to fit a frame   Have you ever wished you could extend a photo to make it wider or taller to fit into a frame? If so, then you should try Generative Expand, another Firefly-powered generative AI feature in Photoshop for both desktop and web. You can find this feature in the Crop tool. It lets you expand and resize the canvas and then fills in the space with generative content that blends with your image. Follow the steps below to give it a try.       Photoshop on the desktop ❶ Open an image in Photoshop Open your chosen image by going to File > Open in the main menu and choosing an image.               ❷ Set up the Crop tool Choose the Crop tool  from the toolbar In the options bar, select Generative Expand from the Fill dropdown.                 ❸ Resize your image  Drag the corner or edge handles outward to extend the canvas to the desired size.                    ❹  Generate new content  If you did not select Generative Expand from the Fill dropdown before expanding the crop, then you can click the Generative Expand button in the Contextual Task Bar that appears.                  Enter a text prompt in the Contextual Task Bar ... or leave it blank if you want it filled in based on the nearby pixels in the image.                Click the Generate button               Choose one of the generated options from the Properties panel. If you want to try again, type a prompt or just click Generate.                   Photoshop creates a new layer and fills it with the newly generated content. Here is the final image after expanding the canvas and filling in the empty part with the generated image.               Photoshop automatically appends Content Credentials to images generated using Generative Fill and Generative Expand and exported as PNG, JPG, or "Save as", to let you and others know an image was created or edited in Photoshop using Firefly's generative AI technology.   Content created using Generative Expand and Generative Fill in Photoshop release versions 25.0 and above can be used for commercial use. Open an image by dragging and dropping one to the desktop or choosing select one to import.               ❷ Select the Crop tool Choose Size & Position from the toolbar and pick the Crop tool.              ❸ Resize your image  Drag the corner or edge handles outward to extend the canvas to the desired size                  ❹  Generate new content Click the Generative Expand button in the Contextual Task Bar that appears.               Enter a text prompt in the Contextual Task Bar ... or leave it blank if you want it filled in based on the nearby pixels in the image.                           Click the Generate button   Photoshop will create a new layer and fill it with the newly generated content.
