Hi Arnis, Yes I am updated. I ususally save as pdf., I am able to make a .ps, but the link in the Contents didn't work. Output is set to start immediately. I point to a specific folder. Not sure about the TEMP location but have 20g hard drive available. Have watched the processor as the book(s) print and it is only using 3.5 g of the 16 g ram. The TPS file takes a long time itself to show up and then it becomes a very large file before the document finishes printing to the .pdf. But, that isn't anything new. FM has always been slow, and you know, I wouldn't care that much if I didn't have to open, reset, and save each document to work in the book again for printing. But this gets really old. On my 32-bit computer, it would take a long time, but ever since I got this one, it just stops. Thanks,

That is proabably not a great title... Anyway, Ever since I have gotten my 64 bit computer, FM has been awful. I have FM10, Windows 7, 16GB RAM. When I make a pdf, it, of course as usual takes forever. But now it stops responding and never refreshes. I get an out of memory message sometimes, but I alwasy have to shut it down. Then to open my book, I have to reset every file in the book to use it and update...ect.... Is there something I can do? It is only using 3.5 GB memory to make the file, so my computer isn't running out of memory. Thanks, ls

Is there a way to convert a normal 8.5 x 11 manual into a 8.5 x 5.5 booklett? We have done this with a new template, but it seems that there should be a way to convert the manual electronically instead. Any ideas? Thanks, ls

Just found out about these plug-ins from silicon prairie.... http://www.siliconprairiesoftware.com/Products.html There is a paragraph tools plug-in that will delete unused para tags....also many other things you may be interested in... ls

Error7103, I didn't see your reply before. Thanks,....just think it is weird that it hasn't happened all this time and now it does...lol...oh well.. I used to use text frames, but the text strings are just easier for call outs. Guess I will just make sure to watch for it. I really think it has something to do with zooming in with the + at the bottom. Thanks again for the answer. ls

Why would the monitor have anything to do with FM deleting characters? It isn't a graphic viewing problem. The first letters of the call outs are actually gone. Did you find out why your letters were missing? Thanks, ls

We have been using FM for a few years now. Now using FM10. All of the sudden I am having this problem. Seems to be when I zoom in and then back out. All the "first:" letters of my callouts are missing!! Dang!! Why would it just start happening now? Thanks, ls

Thanks so much for answering! I will definately take a look at it!! Oh...and we have tried the tile pages. It does separate the pages, but in a large pdf it is time consuming to reorder the pages manualy. If you have a trick let me know...thanks! ls Message was edited by: lsk2002

Hi, I have posted this in the Acrobat forum, but you all seem to be so knowledgeable that I thought maybe one of you had an answer. I have been looking everywhere and have yet to find an answer that works. Tryed Bliss, and a couple of other programs. I have a booklet that I have scanned duplex. It is of course two pages, odd and even, on one page. I would like to separate the pages into a one page document in the correct page numbering that it should be in. I know I can crop...ect...but that is a lot of work for large documents. We have many documents to make into one page pdfs. Anyone have ideas? Something that isn't so time consuming? Thanks, ls

Hi Luca, I personally just place mine manually as in the answer I gave above. Although it would be nice I guess for it to work automatically when pages are odd or even. I don't find it hard to add the blank page para when I know it is needed though. I also tryied meganews answer and I guess I didn't understand it completely. It didn't work for me either. Meganew, Would you be more specific in the following step? 11. Type Body|leave blank|Left I tried this...but it didn't work....but again, I may not have applied it correctly. Thanks both worked!! I used the delete empty pages. My worker had a one page document and changed the sides of the page to correct the numbering and it worked too!!! Thanks a bunch!!! So both are correct!!! Don't know how to mark it!! ls

I have had a couple of documents that add blank pages no matter what you change the page count to....it drives me totally craxy. Close it and open it or make a pdf and get extra pages. It is only in the body section of the document. We have cover, toc, body, and then back cover. A co-worker is having the same problem with a document. Page Count Set to Don't Change in book and document. I thought I had read about this somewhere but couldn't find it. Is there an eaxy answer to correcting? FM10 Windows XP Thanks for any input!! ls

This may be an obvious question, but I can't find a way to do it........ When we make changes to a document we use change bars to show where the changes have been made. Of course on the next revision, these have to be removed to add new ones for the new revision. When I select all and click off Change Bar in the Character Designer, it removes all but the ones in the tables. I have looked around, but can't find anything that removes them all. Also, sometimes even selecting the table cells, it doesn't remove them until I have hunted around in the table to see where the bar is. This is quite a process for some manuals. Can I remove ALL change bars in a document? Thanks, ls

Sorry, guess I didn't specify.... Arnis, yes I am talking about the size of the reference pages. I didn't set up the document, so I really don't know how it was done. The toc references or course had to be changed. I have a "intentionally left blank page" that is used with a blank page para tag. (I know...lol....we want go there again...) The reference pages are still 8.5 by 11 as our other documents. I just thought that something wasn't set up correctly and I could change it easily. If it doesn't matter, then I will just not worry about it. Thanks!! ls

We have a template that was set up for a 5 x 8 document. The reference pages didn't get changed. I have looked it up and haven't been able to find how to change the page setup for these pages. I have been doing it manually. Since I am the only one that uses reference pages in our group, I would like to change them correctly. Thanks, ls

I see know one has answered this, but I don't really understand what you are wanting. We number chapters as 6-1 through 6-24....ect using different letters or text for the chapter numberging (depenging on the manual). This will be in the table of contents when it is run. (had to edit this for the forum, but this is what it looks like) Introduction..................................................................................... 6-14 Checkout Procedure................................................................... ....... 6-15 On-Card Diagnostics ................................................................................................................ 6-17 IOC - LED Definitions.......................................................................... 6-17 What do you mean by... "In the directory I would like it to show the pages that each chapter covers, and automatically update when pages are added.Something simillar to cross-references except for the whole chapter. Would this be possible?" "Want to show the pages that each chapter covers??" Do you just want a table of contents? When pages are added to your book, the table of contents will have to be re-run....right click set up table of contents. Can you explain more of what you are looking for? ls

Am I missing an update or something, or did they take away right click group in a frame in FM10? It is missing,.....funny thing is you can right click ungroup when things are grouped. Why do I have to use ESC gg to group all objects in a frame? I used to use Ctrl A and right click group. (Wish I could use Ctrl A and Ctrl G like other programs.) Can I change the shortcuts? I just tried the view/options and it worked for me. Do you have rulers checked? I changed mine from inches to picas and it changed the ruler. Not sure why it wouldn't work for you. ls

Van, lolol....that is a good thing I guess. We definately have people that ask about things you wouldn't imagine...lol I actually had someone call because the manual update pages weren't correct......come to find out they only looked at the front of pages, not front and back of pages....so you never know....
