Ive been in this thread and living this problem for years... The so called "correct answer" doesnt fix the issue described in the original post. I didnt unmark it, but I may have if I knew I could... UPDATE - Its been a few weeks now.. colours are stable The last time I reported that the colours had changed, but I think I accidentally pasted an image withpout clicked 'cancel' on the popup (must have clicked OK). It it truly annoyoing tpo have to click cancel every time i pase into the doicument. Its even more anoying when pasting vector ellements as you have to click 3 diferent things everytime.   FIX THIS ADOBE!!!! Ive been told they dont check these forums... but why? Hi 🙂 So far, day 4 of my test, checking these boxes has prevented colour changes - V hopeful this woill continue.   With the pop up box - Up untill yesterday I was selecting 'Don't convert (preserve color numbers)', and this was working... but now im also simply pressing 'cancel' when pasting in an image. Both seem to work and preserve colours.   The only other thing worth mentioning is when pasting in vector elements. This seems to act diferently. If you paste, then click 'Don't convert (preserve color numbers)' on the pop up box, the colours change on the pasted object. More tersting needed here before I can recomend any action and resulting colour instability on other elements in the file. ... View more

Just did this.. i got the pop up box asking re colour convert/don't convert... The only thing i want to clarify is what i select on this box. You said in your linked post to click 'cancel'.. but if I do that the element/image im trying to past into the documnet simply doesnt paste. So out of the 2 options on theb pop up box, im assuming i would select 'Don't convert (preserve color numbers)' ?? (see attached ref image) I will probs discover if this is the write of wrong over time (if colours cont to change).. but it would be really helpful if you could let me know if this is correct or not.   Thanks again, v hopefull this is going to help. Sorry, I just disagree.. IMO colour management has always been that simple... untill now. Making this about colour profiles/managment is taking the conversation away from the actual issue ive described.   I apreciate and thank you for your effort.. at least you are trying to help the Adobe community where Adobe are silent. Patheticlly, Adobe actually contacted me asking for a video chat to talk through the issue.. Yes I know to expect colour change when copy/paste or converting between CMYK + RGB files I only copy paste between RGB + RGB (I have no clue why Ai is nameing these copy/pasted swatches with CMYK values) I can see the change happen over time within my files, its not that the colour might change once when copied in from a a CMYK file, the colours are constantly changing within my files, every open/save, every time, every day... its crazy.   As ive said, im no junior, ive been using Ai since version 10 (a long fuking time haha) This is a new issue (2 years now) that I have not encountered in my 21 years on Ai   The bottom line is, colours should be stable in Ai. Colour managment in Ai should be as simple as selecting RGB or CMYK when creating a new file (while obviously understanding the impact of copying colours beteween RGB + CMYK files) If its any harder than thaty, then the UI of Ai needs a serious fix. ... No i did not name these swatches.. I'd assume they are default names generated by Illustrator when you paste an element in from another document. Like in any colaborative environment, files/design elements are shared... other designers may grab elements from my files, and I may grab elements from theirs. Im assuming these swatches you can see, with the CMYK/RGB breakdown as the name, are a result of this sharing of elements between files. ... View more

Yes some seem to show the CMYK breakdown, others show RGB.. the simple fact that this can happen within 1 file shows a problem with the program.   Its not my monitor colour setup, this problem clearly affects coulours within the Adobe program.   Why cant this simply be a problem with the program - Colour managment should be done by default by the program when you set it up - this shpould be as simple at chosing CMYK or RGB, and have advanced setting ppl can access/change if necessary (not the other way around)   BTW, you dont need to find a solutioon for me... Well mine shows a profile 9see att)   A colour profile should be established when you create a file - RGB or CMYK.. thsats as technical as it need to get If it is more complicated than that to keep colurs consistent within thew program then i think there is a problem with the program. ... No.. its an RGB file. Show me where the files tells you im working of CMYK values? and I will gladly admit im wrong.   I make every colour swatch use from RGB values as I an workking in the digital space 99 % of the time. You can see all the colour swatches ive made (global swatches with the little white triangles in the corner)   All the other swatches in the file I supplied (at the top of the palette) are default swatches generated by adobe which i assume are alighned with whatever colour profile you select when creating a new file. I dont know why your trying to make this out to be more complicated than it is! Create new file > select coliur profile for new file > design ^^^ It really should be that easy.. and if its not, its not that customers of Adobe dont know the fine intricacoies of colour profiles etc... its that Adobe have F'd up and it time for them to fix the problem.   ... Its beyond ridiculous now.. 2 years and no solution from Adobe Im so fed up.. take ourt moneyt whaile ignoring issues like this. This is a HUGE issue.. COLOUR IS A FUNDAMENTAL DESIGN ELEMENT which NEEEDS TO REMAIN STABLE - This should be a top priority to be fixed. The house is on fire MFers, call the freakin fire department!!   Anyway.. Hi, Ive been dealing with this issue for about a year+ too. Dont know why the fuk Adobe havnt adressed this issue as colours are a vital part of any brand and one of the major design elements you need to remain stable. massive ::facepalm:: and another reason we need a viable alternative to Adobe.   anyway... ive been using a work around...   Ive been creating global colour swatches for each campaign/job/client - making the swatch a global colour makes the colour stable.   Hope that helps. ...
