The "chain icon" (which I call the "lock aspect icon") does not appear in either the release or beta version. This screen shot if from the BETA version, which works properly. The settings are identical. RELEASE version (which operates in LEGACY mode regardless of this setting): In the BETA version, operation follows the setting:

A few months ago, I reported that legacy transform has once again become the default in Photoshop even when the legacy option is deselected. The feature works properly in the beta version, but not in the production version. Will this EVER be fixed?

For the past several weeks, I have encountered a problem when saving a file in Photoshop. If I use the save dialog to navigate to a directory other than the last directory used by Photoshop, the program crashes. Usually navigation up one or more levels works and the crash occures when I attempt to drill down. The workaround involves using Explorer++ or Q-Dir to navigate to the desired directory, copy the path, and save the file with a fully qualified file name. (Example: E:\GRAPHICS\Miscellaneous\ComputerSign.psd) Because this sometimes happens in the Windows File Explorer (but never in Explorer++ or Q-Dir), my conjecture is that Windows is at least partially at fault. But I see the issue only in Photoshop and Photoshop (Beta), which suggests that part of the problem is Adobe's. That's more work than holding the Shift key down. I was hoping that using the Tool Options Bar would somehow create a sticky setting, but the setting didn't stick even between images, much less between PS Sessions. I suppose the dev team will eventually fix this, but it's a significant annoyance.

Thanks for the suggestion. That's a long and involved process and, unfortunately, it had no effect. I still have to press Shift to maintain proportions.

This is one of two problems that has appeared in the past week or so. Legacy free transform has returned, so I once again have to hold the shift key unless I want to warp what I'm resizing. I tried checking the Legacy Transform box, closing Photoshop, opening it again, and deselecting Legacy Transform. No change. Then I tried resetting preferences. No change. Is this a bug or have I just encountered a surprising new feature? Second problem (possibly related; probably not). When I need to save a document and have to navigate to another directory, Photoshop almost always crashes during navigation. The only workaround I've found involves navigating to the directory with a file explorer (Q-Dir or File Explorer), copying the path, and pasting it in to the Save dialog instead of navigating in the normal way. I'm hoping that somebody has encountered these problems and has found a solution. Thanks! Windows 11 64 bit ver 23H2 PS 25.6.0

A project I work on frequently is located in E:\GRAPHICS\DAYS\. Starting on 7 Dec 2023, Photoshop crashes whenever I use the File-Open dialog and double-click the DAYS directory. After the crash, the next time PS opens, it opens to the directory it crashed on, but if I navigate back to E:, enter GRAPHICS, and double-click DAYS, it crashes again. Thanks! The disappearing favorites list has been a problem for quite a while now, but it's intermittent. Sometimes the favorites just reappear without any action on my part. Intermittents are nearly impossible to troubleshoot, too, so I'm sure the developers are having "fun" with it. (Alternate definition of "fun" is in use here.)

@Molly Doane I sent you a PM via the PM function on this Forum, not Twitter because I no longer do Twitter. Sending via comment here as a backup. Does Photoshop really not store the Favorites list locally? I have some non-Adobe faces that are favorites. My Adobe user ID is techbyter.editor@techbyter.com. Thanks.

I reinstalled Photoshop this morning. My workspaces, typefaces, and history are all gone. Unhappy. Fortunately, I maintain a twice-monthly local backup of my AppData/Roaming directory. I did the following: Renamed C:\Users\willi\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2023 as Adobe Photoshop 2023 XXX. Copied H:\UserProfileWilli1\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2023 to C:\Users\willi\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\. This restored workspaces and history, but not font Favorites. And I seem to have lost some typefaces. Not ideal, but not a total disaster. This problem, however, has returned: favorite fonts LIST repeatedly disappears (the typefaces are present).

Until recently, Creative Cloud showed Photoshop as installed. Now it's not in the (1) installed list, but in the (2) "available" list even though it's (3) installed and runs properly. This is merely an annoyance because Photoshop starts and runs normally, but it would be helpful if it also appeared in the installed list. Thus far I have tried the following: Reboot computer. Sign out of CC and sign back in. With CC selected, press Ctrl-Alt-R No change. This is a Win11Pro computer with 64GB of RAM. I am reluctant to tell CC to install the app because it's already present, but I don't want to miss updates. Help? Thanks!

Sorry, Trevor.Dennis; I didn't see this until 5 Apr 2023. I had already uninstalled and reinstalled. Overall the problem is "resolved" except when the Favorites disappear. I've found that closing and reopening either the file I'm working on or Photoshop (sometimes several times) usually causes the Favorites to reappear from wherever they've gone. Sort of like playing peek-a-boo with a three year old.

The Favorites are sticking now, but I don't know what fixed it because the steps I took make utterly no sense. Uninstalled Photoshop and confirmed that the Preferences directory was empty. Reinstalled Photoshop and set up the Favorites. Closed Photoshop, opened Photoshop, and determined that the Favorites were not present. Gave up for the day. Decided to live with having to select faces manually, opened Photoshop, and noticed that the Favorites I had created yesterday (the ones that didn't stick then) were back. Since then I have shut Photoshop down several times and reopened it. The Favorites have been there every time. So far.

Unfortuntely, copying the old directory doesn't realiably fix the problem. It works sometimes and fails sometimes. This. Is. Nuts.

The other preferences are sticking and Favorites works in Illustrator. I added a couple of Favorites and they were still present when I reopened Photoshop. So then I added the dozen or so favorites. When I restarted Photoshop, they were all gone. Might it be a specific font, I thought rehetorically, so I started adding faces one at a time. On the second addition (one that had been retained previously) all Favorites disappeared after I closed Photoshop. So it seems that Photoshop sometimes retains Favorites and sometimes loses Favorites with little or no predictability. My user is the owner of "C:\Users\willi\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2023\Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings" and I have full control. The system also has full control, as does the Administrators group. One more test: I renamed Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings as OLD_Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings. Then I copied Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings from a backup. The Favorites were present. I created a new document, saved it, and closed Photoshop. When I opened Photoshop again, the Favorites were gone, but my workspace was still active. I guess I could create a batch file to copy the preferences file into place each time I want to use Photoshop.

Because I just reinstalled Windows, the PS installation is new and the problem persisted. This feature did work previously and other Preferences are being maintained. I tried creating a Favorite in Illustrator and that is retained after closing and re-launching PS.

I still haven't found WTF (where the fonts), but I did clean the computer by reinstalling Windows. I had hoped that the problem with disappearing Favorite fonts was something dumb that Microsoft had done, but it turns out that it's something stupid Adobe has done. 😞

Thanks! I had tried resetting preferences last night: Renamed Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings as _OLD_Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings. Started Photoshop, opened an image, marked one typeface as favorite, saved the image, and closed Photoshop. Opened Photoshop. No favorite fonts. Closed Photoshop, deleted Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings, and renamed _OLD_Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings as Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings. I guess I'll have to wait for the magic to occur.

Photoshop forgot all of my favorite fonts recently, so I selected them again. When I restarted Photoshop, the Favorites were once again missing. Note that this is NOT a case of the typefaces being uninstalled. They are still present, but they are no longer marked as being Favorites. FURTHER OBSERVATION (26 February 2023 at 17:36:16): I have tried running both Photoshop 24.2.0 and Beta as Administrator. The problem persists.

AN UPDATE Given the total lack of response, this is apparently a problem that nobody else sees, so I have uninstalled Acrobat DC using the standard procedure outlined here: uninstall-reinstall-acrobat.html. I then restarted the computer and reinstalled Acrobat DC from the Creative Cloud Desktop app. During the installation, "Progress is slower than usual. Working on resolving issue ..." appeared. Task Manager reported the setup process was using an excessive amount of system resources. Acrobat DC opens much faster. It still reports "not responding" in situations where I never saw this previously, but performance is now acceptable. Performance isn't what it should be on a computer with an i9 processor and 32GB of RAM, but at least it's now functional.

For approximately the past two months, Acrobat DC reports "not responding" for about 20 to 30 seconds when I open it. This happens again when I open any PDF document (even one with just a single page). It happens again when I select any of the tools (Edit, Combine, Organize, etc). It also happens when I try to drag or rezize the application window. Machine Resources: Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11950H @ 2.60GHz 2.61 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Edition Windows 11 Pro Version 21H2 OS build 22000.739 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.739.0 The post acrobat-dc-extreme-slow-on-windows-10/m-p/12118085 points to how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-default/td-p/4792082 with instructions to clear %appdata%\Adobe\Acrobat\[version], so I presume this would be C:\Users\willi\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\DC\ on my computer. I renamed the directory and restarted Acrobat. Performance improved slightly. The "not responding" periods are now about 15 seconds. Still unacceptable. The next step is then described here: cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html. I ran the log collector tool. AdobeLogs_20220630_111841_237-win-GS.zxp in in a LogCollector directory on the Desktop. No files are pending upload. "Close Adobe Desktop Service and Core Sync in Task manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (macOS)." Neither of these is listed on the Task Manager's Processes tab, nor are they on the Services tab. I cannot proceed with this step. Being unable to perform step #3, I have not continued. Is anybody else seeing this problem? Has anyone managed to resolve it? Thanks!

There was a configuration issue with Windows Search that created a problem for TechSmith's SnagIt. Fixing that issue corrected the problem with SnagIt. Additionally, since fixing the problem with Search, Dreamweaver's second-monitor panels open as expected on the second monitor. I don't see the connection or the logic and it's unclear that there is any connection; but, as they say, it is what it is. Working now as expected
