thanks to all. This is the answer I was expecting, but hoped for a different result. My computer runs Intel i5 @ 2.5 gHz with 20 GB Ram. Nothing else seems to take a long time to complete inside LR, though it is noticeably slower than what I can see others experrience in other editing in demonstrations. Topaz AI is slow, sometimes taking 45 seconds on my R6 RAW files but 13 minutes with not much else affected--it just seemed wrong. I've been considering buying a new machine. Five years old does seem to be the life span of computers, even with no problems encountered.

I was interested to try out the new Denoise AI in 12.3. It seemed to work pretty well in some preliminary tests, though 1 image produced a ton of green artifacts in what started ot as a black sky (with a lot of noise).
The major issue for me, though, is that the module reports it will take it 12 minutes or more to render the DNG file. I didn't time this, but it was certainly more than 10 minutes. I've watched a demo/tutorial and their video showed expected times in the 10 to 15 SECOND reange. Nothing else I use in LR has major delays.
My computer is 5 years old and won't support Windows 11, but nothing else takes an outrageous amount of time. Exporting DNG files for Panoramas might take a few seconds, but nothing like this. Is this a processor issue for me or are others experiencing this sort of time issue?

Thank you very much. Panic subsiding. At first, I couldn't find the old catalogs at all for some reason. It seems I have all back though I will apparently have to reset my catalog views.

This morning (Jan 22) I tried to open LR. Wouldn't work. I shut down my computer and reopened LR, received a notice that it was upgrading my Catalog. When LR opened, it looked different and most of my photos are missing. If I locate a Windows folder, I can ask LR to sync and it imports the original images and their Exported (edited) versions. The Catalog does NOT show that the originals were edited nor the adjustments made to them. It does NOT retain the settings I had in the previous Catalog. Dialog boxes are showing up treating me like I've never been here before! THIS UPDATE RUINS EVERYTHING. PLEASE PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS FOR A FIX AND AN UPDATE TO THIS NEAR DISASTER!

I don't have an Apple Pencil and do not see anyplace in iOS or LR settings to make this adjustment. Can you direct me to the setting or provide another solution?

Well, as it turns out, yes. I thought-- obviously mistakenly-- that Auto Settings related to panorama settings, not development. Thanks for reminding me to pay close attention to each and every checkbox I encounter.

Yesterday, I created 2 panorama in LIghtroom CC, each merging 2 raw files. I was careful to choose panorama, not panorama hdr. Even so, in each case, LR applied some changes to exposure, contrast, saturation. I was able to undo these changes to apply my own edits but wasn't expecting this (and wasn't all that happy with the edits performed). Is this a bug or something Adobe has done? I didn't see this in the descriptions provided at the most recent update but may well have missed it.

I have issues with Creative Cloud. It shows I have used 39% of my 20GB storage space. I have deleted ALL files from Creative Cloud and from the Delete/Archive space. There are no Albums, projects or anything else showing in the Files section of Cloud, yet the space usage doesn't budge. How can I be taking up space when no files are showing as uploaded. I have sync turned off on both my desktop (CC Classic, not Cloud based) and iPad.

There are obviously quite a few people who experience this problem. There also seem to be a number of solutions. It seems some work for some people and others work for others. As I said before, the solution that worked for me was to reinstall Lightroom. I suspect that, once installed, something changes in the computer's configuration that interferes with the import under specific conditions. Since changes to a computer's configuration are so frequent-- and often not even detected by the user-- it's difficult to diagnose the exact cause of the problem. By reinstalling, whatever conflict occurs may be compensated for somehow. It's really sad that such a fine product has such a flaw that it causes people to be unable to use it properly.

On July 5, I reported my attempt to solve my import issue on my xp desktop. I reinstalled LIghtroom 3. I did not uninstall Lightroom first, disconnect my USB card reader, disable antivirus software or anything else other than restart my computer post-installation. Since then, import has worked fine for me.

On July 4, I imported and edited some photos. Upon closing down, Lightroom asked and I granted it permission to back up my catalog-- first time ever. Today, when I tried to import additional photos, the import bar appeared upper left but no actions ensued. The import window didn't appear-- just nothing. I clicked the "X" and received the message that the import was cancelled. This is similar to some other posts here. I deleted the backup, but that didn't help. I created a new catalog and tried to import photos-- no dice. I reinstalled Lightroom-- repair installation without deleting the program-- and restarted my computer (as requested) and now import works fine. I suspect that something went wrong when Lightroom backed up my catalog. Try reinstalling the program and that may help you as well.
