If this were me (and I use windows), as a starting place I'd check with File Manager to see if the files exist on my storage device. I use internal storage, so my storage location is always the same. If you use external storage make sure it's plugged in and accessible.

They are Nikon Z8 raw images(NEF). I download the images via the Elements downloader from a card reader. All the NEF files are visible in the organizer. Editing and saving a single file as a jpg is visible in the Organizer. Crerating the photmerge works well and the jpg can be viewed by selecting it from the File Manage. The file is not viewable in the Organizer.

I am able to create a panorama in Elements 2023 Editor with Photomerge. But when I save it as a jpg I'm unable to view it in the Organizer. It's displayed as a gray box with the broken letter icon. I have no problem viewing the image in File manager. So it's an Organizer problem. I've tried this with anywhere from two to five images, same results. Windows 11 Element 21 (2023) ACR 17 I'm hoping this is a simple fix/workaround Thanks

With Windows 10 being End of Lifed in November 2025 and my current Windows 10 PC from 2017 not being supported on win11, I bought a new PC and had a hell of a time migrating Elements to it. After attempting to restore and then Update ACR correctly and at the correct time during the process, I created a fairly clean step by step procedure. I did not find this documented anywhere. BTW, I'm not a tech writer, just an end user. Table of Contents My PC Attributes If Cleanup is need on the Destination PC Install PSE Install ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) Manually copy the updated Camera Raw.8bi to the Elements folder < --- VERY IMPORTANT Start the Restore =================================================== My PC Attributes The example below has these attributes: Photoshop Elements 2023, also known as Elements 21. This same version will be installed on the Destination PC Old or Source PC: Dell XPS 8900 with Windows 10 New or Destination PC: Dell XPS 8960 with Windows 11 All photo files(Pictures) reside on HHD (D:) which is an internal SATA disk My Pictures folder is 3.4 TB, Has 294,328 Files, and 2,364 Folders My Raw Files are from a Nikon Z8 (NEFs) I set the Volume Letters to be the same on the Destination as the Source to avoid any conflicts during the restore My volume label is ' 8 TB APP-Data' (D:) Correct any Missing Files On the source PC , from Organizer run Find > All Missing Files Then backup the catalog 'File > Back up Catalog...' If Cleanup is need on the Destination PC If you want to do a full restore to an existing PC and want to remove or clean up before the restore. I did this because I had a couple of installation problems due to ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) Remove all PSE Uninstall PSE via Apps Uninstall Delete \Pictures from 8 TB APP-Data (D:) Delete \ProgramData\Adobe from 8 TB APP-Data (D:) 8 TB APP-Data (D:) Music Users <--- Only Content Delete OS(C:) \ProgramData\Adobe Delete (C:) \Users\paul\AppData\Roaming\Adobe Note: I'm leaving this here because I didn't previously delete it: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 21\File Formats And this doesn't exist and will get recreated: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC Install PSE Note: I previously received PSE Install Error MSVCR120.dll And needed to Install the MS Visual C++ 2013 Redistributables to resolve the install problem Execute the installer: PhotoshopElements_2023_LS30_win64.exe Select Default Location Note: The Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023 window opens Optional: Note: I open the Editor and check for a ACR version Help > About Plug-in > No 'Camera Raw' listed Note: From the Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023 window I select Organizer The Welcome to Elements Organizer window open, I select OK Message appears: The 'PSE12 Catalog 1 2' catalog could not be found. Why did you mess with a working ACR? Because all the problems I've run into getting PSE installed and Restored, I figured it couln't hurt. More on that to come. I appreciate the into on the sequence to Update the Thumbnails. It worked great. But I have several thousand photo files created from the Z8 that I would have to select and update. That would take a lot of time. So before bed last night I wiped PSE of the PC , re-installed, properly updated and copied ACR to the Elements folder and restored. All is working as expected and Thank you for you assistance. BTW, 'Organizer > Help > Install Camera RAW' installed Version 17 to the ..\CC\File Formats folder So even though I didn't the latest, Adobe thought I shuld have it

Greg, Thanks for your help on this. I'm done for today but will close on this: I renamed the exiting version 16 ...\Elements 21\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi Then executed AdobeCameraRaw_x64_17_0.exe From Editor: Help > About Plug-in > Camera Raw Version 14.4.0.1121 However the same problem exists in the organizer So currently I am not able to see the thumbnail of any NEF file in the Organizer unless I blindly open it in the editor.

Partially Solved: Instead of copy and replace, I renamed Camera Raw.8bi to ~Camera Raw.8bi, then successfully copied the filr from ...\CC\File Formats The Editor Help > About Plug-in > Camera Raw show version 16.0 <close enough> However, when I open the Organizer the NEW files are still seen as broken. I can then open the NEF in the Editor and ACR sees the photo as expected. I can edit the file and then when I exit the file from the editor the Organized can see the NEF file. But still all other NEFs are seen as broken. I'll provide a scneenshot

I'm migrating Photoshop Elements 2023 from Windows 10 to a new windows 11 PC. Windows 10 is a Dell XPS 8900 Windows 11 is a Dell XPS 8960 On the new win11 the Organizer does not recognize the NEF files. This appears to be a ACR(Adobe Camera Raw) problem, However after I installed PSE on Win11 and prior to the restore I updated ACR from the Organizer ; > Help > Install Camera RAW. If I don't do this the restore fails to copy any NEF files. The restore completes successfully. Organizer opens , jpegs are presented (with all tags and keywords), but the NEFs are grayed out with the small broken letter icon in the middle. Here is my initial ACR update: Elements > Help > Install Camera Raw... Adobe Photoshop Elements Add-on Utilities 2023 Default location Continue Succeeded C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi 210,651 Kbytes C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 21\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi 162,877 Kbytes I Successfully checked for the Nikon Z8 at: \Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Camera I have individually downloaded ACR versions 16 and 17 and manually install them. The install appears to be successful but the problem does not resolve. The manual installs are from : AdobeCameraRaw_x64_17_0.exe AdobeCameraRaw_x64_16_0.exe ACR 16.1 is the current version on the Win10 PC In the past I had to copy Camera Raw.8bi from ...\CC\File Formats to ...\Elements 21\File Formats\ Now I try to copy the file and get this error: You need permission to perform this action In a google search I find this: How to take ownership of files and folders Open File Explorer. Browse and find the file or folder you want to have full access. Right-click it, and select Properties. Click the Security tab to access the NTFS permissions. Click the Advanced button. But this results in this error: The permissions on File Formats are incorrectly ordered, which may cause some entries to be ineffective. OK I don't want to further pursue this without being provide a solution from someone more skilled than myself at this. Thank you! P.S. I emailed the customercare-support@adobe.com on the as well I have a 3 day photoshoot this week and would like this resolved asap TA

In Photoshop Elements 2023 the download shows the file as an unrecognizable file with its date. The photo thumnail is not present. Once downloaded and imported into the Organizer the RAW image is displayed. This occurs with RAW image from a D750 and a D500. This worked as expected for several years with PSE17 This was previously reported in the forum on PSE 2022 What is the solution?
