Wow!  I just gave this Vectorizer AI tool a try and the result was unbelievably good.  I vectorized an image that has small text with serifs.  I wouldn't have to make any tweaks on that result.  I can't believe it accurately drew all those tiny serifs.  Illustrator has no chance of getting a result like that on small text.  The recent updates to Adobe tracing were not improvements in quality. Yeah, that's the problem.  For me, the problem is about 90% solved.  I have a piece of software called Vector Magic.  When that software is open, Illustrator has problems with copy/paste.  As soon as I close Vector Magic the problems are resolved, 90% of the time. There's not much to record.  I launch Illustrator.  I create a blank document.  I open the appearance panel and click the color box for the stroke and it happens.  That's all.  If I close Illustrator then immediately relaunch, it will do it again.  Once I get past it, it doesn't happen again until I close/reopen Illustrator. ... The results in Illustrator 29 are still a long way from the quality of standalone software.  I still use Illustrator a lot because it's faster, and it does a good job with 1 color images.  But, Illustrator does not do a good job with straight lines, or corners.  When a piece of art is more forgiving, or may even benefit from some rounding, and it's 1 color, then Illustrator is is what I will use.  Illustrator is not good for accuracy.  The two results below are both the inital results.  With the standalone software I would not do anything further.  With Illustrator there would be a lot more work to get it to be usable.    ... I've been reading through the comments.  I also have a problem with Illustrator causing my PC to be generally slower when Illustrator is open.  I'm not sure if it's exactly the same as your issue but what I notice is that Windows Explorer really struggles to navigate through files and folders.  For example, if I open a folder and hold the down cursor key, it will struggle to scroll through all of the folders.  It jumps, stops, skips, and the cursor is blinking the whole time.  Creating, folders, moving files or folders are problematic.  I have to select an item, and hold it for a second or two to wait for the cursor to stop blinking before I attempt to move it or duplicate it, or it will fail.   We have some things in common.  Namely, we're both using Astute Graphics plugins yet that is not the problem because I've uninstalled the entire set of plugins and tried using Illustrator for an entire day and the problem is still there.  The other thing we have in common is the AMD processor.  This problem curiously started when I bought this machine brand new in early 2020.  It's the first time I've had a machine with a AMD processor in 20 years.  I kind of wonder if that is the problem.  I've also done all of the remedies that were recommended for you and none of it works.  Except the fonts.  I never install fonts directly into Windows because Windows itself is not very good about handling fonts.  I use a font manager but I don't think that's the problem.  It still might be better to use a font manager though.   Lastly, Astute Graphics tech support is beyond awful. ... I see the problem now.  There is an option in the toolbar now to "show layer bounds from hover".  I didn't realize those options were there.  That option is enabled. The problem is that I'm going to the View menu and unchecking "Extras", which controls "Layer Edges".  Layer Edges is not the same as "Layer bounds from hover" so, it should not control layer bounds from hover.  But, it does, temporarily.  So I uncheck "Extras" under the View menu.  Layer bounds from hover disappear, which is what I want.  But as soon as I paste something into the document, the layer bounds reappear when hovering.  So eventually I found the toolbar option, "Layer bounds from hover".  That is the option I needed.  Once I unchecked that and layer bounds from hover is permanently disabled.  But, why does the Extras in the View menu control this feature, momentarily?  That is the problem. ... If I disable Extras/Layer edges under the View menu it is immediately re-enabled if I paste anything into Photoshop.  This problem started in Photoshop 25.7, and is still a problem in 25.9.  I'm using Windows 10.  For now it is impossible to turn off layer edges. ... View more

This is a little different than this topic but probably related.  With a Mac I remember that I could copy a transparent layer from Photoshop then paste it in Illustrator and it would be transparent.  With Windows, it will paste with white background. ... View more
