I am excited to introduce a new feature that streamlines rough cut cleanup. You can now select all dialogue by a particular speaker in the transcript and quickly remove it from the video. This feature facilitates the removal of any irrelevant dialogue from your timeline, especially interviewers or other off-camera conversations in unscripted content.   How it works In the Text Panel -> Transcript tab -> top-left corner, click on the Filter icon and select “Speakers” In the speaker drop-down menu, select the person whose dialogue you want deleted Click “Delete”       Notes You can only delete dialogue on a Sequence/Timeline. Footage cannot be deleted from Source transcriptions. Make sure to rename speakers in your Source transcript since “Speaker 1” could be two different people in two different source clips.   Feedback Does it work as expected? Earlier this year we debuted Text-Based Editing in Premiere Pro which makes editing video as simple as copying and pasting text. We’ve been excited to see all the ways you’re utilizing this workflow to speed up your rough cut – and we’ve been listening to all the feedback. Now in Premiere Pro (beta) we’re bringing you some of the top feature requests so far: filler words, bulk actions (like remove all pauses), and multichannel audio support.    (If you’re new to Text-Based Editing, check out our HelpX page or explore the workflow with Valentina Vee’s complete beginner’s guide to Premiere Pro.)    Filler Words  Text-Based Editing now allows you to detect “uh” and “umm” filler words, so your transcript is more accurate. Just like with pauses, you can click on a filler word and delete it from your sequence transcript. Because we serve an international audience, Filler words are language agnostic so that they work in all 18 languages supported in Speech to Text.    When you transcribe a sequence, you will now see a localized version of “[filler]” to identify these filler words. If you’ve previously transcribed a clip or sequence, you’ll need to re-transcribe to add filler words to it.     Bulk Actions (including Remove All Pauses)  Now you can get rid of all those filler words, pauses, or any other words you don’t want to keep in your sequence transcript in a single click. This is an easy way to clean up everything from long silences to brief pauses in an instant.    Open the transcribed sequence you want to trim. In the Transcript panel, click on the filter icon and choose filler or pause.      Every instance of filler words or pauses will become highlighted in the transcript. Click Delete and select Extract (to ripple edit and close gaps) or Lift (to delete and leave gaps). You can Delete all at once or delete one by one.      If you only want to get rid of long pauses or fillers, open up the overflow menu->Transcribe view options. You can change the length of pauses and fillers. The transcript will update in real time.       You can also search for text and delete it, as well as replacing instances of text displayed on the source or sequence. For example, you can find and replace every instance of a proper noun which may have been transcribed incorrectly.     Transcript View Options  You also have more control over what you see in the transcript. Click on the three dots at the top of the Transcript window and select Transcript view options. You can add visual indicators for low-confidence words, adjust pause length, and display or hide un-transcribed sources, filler, pauses, and speakers.     You also have more control over search settings with the ability to narrow a search to whole words only or match capitalization.      Multichannel Audio Support  Some audio files have different microphones recorded on separate channels. With multichannel audio support in Text-Based Editing, you can choose to re-transcribe an audio file using a specific channel or a mix of all channels. This feature works with audio files in a multichannel mono format.    After importing a multichannel mono audio file, right click on the file in the Project panel and choose Transcribe or Re-transcribe. You will now see a channel selection drop down so you can choose if you’d like to transcribe a mix or specific channel.      These great new Text-Based Editing updates are now available in Premiere Pro (beta). Many of you have told us that you have a colleague responsible for correcting AI transcripts, and that you want an easy way to share the transcript and get corrections from them. We have added Danish to the Transcription Panel in Premiere Pro Beta. Since I don't speak Danish I would love to know how well it is working for you. Please try some of your footage and let us know:   What kind of content are you transcribing? (zoom call, promotional video, YouTube DIY tutorial, Netflix documentary...)  Does it do better with certain dialects? If there are regional dialects that it doesn't handle as well, be specific about the names of the region, accent or dialect. How accurately does it transcribe numbers? As you saw in my earlier post about text panel enhancements, transcripts are becoming more central in editing workflows. Starting today in Premiere Pro (Beta) you can create rough cut edits from selected Text passages.   To start, you can generate transcripts of your footage in the background when you import your media. Alternatively, you can generate transcripts from the Text panel after your project has been created. Either way, the Sequence transcript panel dynamically syncs with your Timeline: as you make changes in your Sequence transcript, the Timeline will reflect your changes – and vice versa.   My colleagues and I created some starter footage for you, as well as a tutorial so you can try it out. If you tend to do all of your editing in a Sequence, follow the guidelines below and/or watch this tutorial. If you tend to do three-point (Source) editing, follow the guidelines below and/or watch this tutorial.   Sequence Editing Workflow Download the four videos from the Five Questions video assets folder Open Premiere Pro (Beta -23.0x006 or higher) and create a new project In the Import screen Import "Kerstin interview" Turn on Automatic Transcription and make sure “Create new sequence” is checked. (Note: You can turn on and off automatic transcription in Preferences -> Transcription -> Automatically transcribe clips on import.) Make sure language is set to English Click "Create" In Edit view, open the Progress Panel (Window -> Progress). This will allow you to see transcription progress. The clip should be in your new sequence Click on the Transcript tab in the Text Panel Click “Transcribe sources.” This setting allows your Timeline and Transcript to stay in sync. Use the Search box in the Transcript panel for the word "what." This will allow you to see where the questions are in the video  For the first question, highlight everything from "I had a piece of that cake a while ago" until she says "Second question."   Click the In/Out point at the top of the Transcript panel. You should see that section of the video highlighted with In/Out points in the Program Monitor Delete the highlighted section using the "Extract" button in the Program Monitor. Go through the rest of the transcript and cut it down to a simple Q&A highlights reel. Have Kerstin state the question and a simple answer, but delete extraneous information. For example, have her say her favorite karaoke song but exclude detail on what makes it a great karaoke song.   If you wish to have Premiere automatically set In/Out points around any selected text, go to the dropdown menu in the text panel and select "Set In/Out around selections." Play back your sequence. You should have one sequence with five questions and simple answers. Play back your clip and check for any issues. Try it with your own projects!   Three Point (Source) Editing Workflow Download the four interview videos from the Five Questions video assets folder Open Premiere Pro (Beta - 23.0x006 or higher) and import the four videos to your Desktop or other preferred folder Create a new project  In the Import screen Check the boxes next to all four videos Turn on Automatic transcription (Note: You can turn on and off automatic transcription in Preferences -> Transcription -> Automatically transcribe clips on import.) Make sure “Create new sequence” is unchecked Make sure language is set to English Click "Create" In Edit view, open the Progress Panel (Window -> Progress). This will allow you to see transcription progress. Pro Tip: Set up your windows so that Text Panel, Source Monitor, and Program Monitor are side by side. Create a new sequence (File-> New -> Sequence). Name the sequence "Karaoke" Double-click on any clip in the Properties Panel Click on the Transcript tab in the Text Panel Click on the “Source” tab to keep the source transcript in view Search the transcript for the word “karaoke.” Select the question and answer and click the In/Out point at the top of the Transcript panel. You should see that section of the video highlighted in the Source Monitor Use the Insert button in the Source Monitor (or comma (,) keyboard shortcut) to insert the selection into the timeline. Do the same thing for the four remaining source clips If you wish to have Premiere automatically set In/Out points around any selected text, go to the dropdown menu in the text panel and select "Set In/Out around selections." Play back your sequence. You should have one sequence with five people answering the same question. Switch to Sequence view in the Transcript tab Click “Transcribe sources.” This setting allows your Timeline and Transcript to stay in sync. If there are any extraneous words in your sequence, highlight those words and click the In/Out point at the top of the Transcript panel. You should see in/out points selected in your Timeline panel. Delete the words and associated subclip with the Extract (apostrophe (‘) keyboard shortcut in the Program Monitor. Play back your clip and check for any issues. Try it with your own projects!   Stay tuned, because we have more coming this year Document style text editing: Use Cmd+X/Cmd+V and Delete to edit your tracks from the Text panel. Range selection: Select a sub-clip on a single track using text. We know that In/Out points + ripple delete affects all tracks in your sequence and deletion isn’t helpful if you have B-roll, music, etc. Language detection: Set your language preferences in Preferences -> Transcription for now. The ability to detect language on import will reduce a click, and can be helpful when you are working on a project that includes multiple languages. Search Source footage for key moments   We would love to hear from you How is the performance of automatic transcription when you have hours of files? Please share your system specs + the number of hours of source footage you are transcribing. When working with your own footage, are you mostly editing the Sequence Transcript, Source Transcript, or a mix of both? Are there any moments where the UI or descriptions feel unintuitive? Back by popular demand you can ripple delete one frame at a time with your preferred keyboard shortcut. To use it, set up a Keyboard Shortcut (Option-Command-K) and search for “Ripple Delete Head Frame.” Once you have designated your KBS, position your playhead before the extraneous frames, press your chosen KBS and delete one frame at a time until you land on your ideal first frame. Try it out and let us know what you think!   Please note that this is using my KBS but you can choose your own.   ...
