What we've been doing is taking screen shots of the Share for Review comments on each page, pasting those screen shots into a new document (like Word), then converting that to a PDF so we have a record of the comments. It's not a great solution, but it's a solution. InDesign really needs a way to summarize all of the comments made in Share for Review and export them, or at least print them the way Acrobat does.

It's the same thing as what I tried before, but I still couldn't get it to work. However, I was suddenly, magically able to update my Share for Review links yesterday, so I guess all is well. Thanks, anyway.

Thank you for the link to the 2024 version! I didn't realize there had been an update. It wasn't my intention to imply that the PAC checker would solve all accessibility problems; my intention was to recommend a tool to help evaluate accessibility better than what's built in to Adobe Acrobat. Ultimately, designers need a lot of training and practice to make accessible PDF documents. Knowledge and understanding of the process is key, but using the right tools helps.

I am also working on designing accessible forms in InDesign and if you're still learing, like I am, I can highly recommend Chad Chelius' accessibilty courses on LinkedIn learning. The accessibility process is VERY involved and he explains what to do and how to do it; he also gives recommendations for helpful tools and a link to the PAC 2021 checker, which will help ensure PDF/UA compliance. Good luck!

Do you have access to LinkedIn Learning? If you don't, you might sign up or ask your employer to get access. They have some really great courses on InDesign - they even have some specifically for long documents. These are the courses I used to learn InDesign and they were super helpful. Good luck!

For the last three or four weeks, when we try to update the link for a Share for Review, it crashes InDesign and throws up an Error Report window. The shared file on the Creative Cloud web only updates partially - it shows all of the comments and the updated text, but the highlights and other markers don't relocate. Everyone can still comment, but their view of the document isn't accurate. We've upgraded to 19.1 then to 19.2 since this started, but it's not fixed. And now with 19.2 , when the Error Report window opens, the Submit Report button is missing, so I can't even report the error through InDesign anymore.

I'm sorry to hear that - I know how frustrating it is when this thing doesn't work. Have you upgraded to version 19.0.1?

You can copy from Comments in InDesign by using the key commands. In the Comments window, highlight the text you want to copy, then use 'Ctrl + C' to copy, then you can paste into your text. If you want to paste something into the Comments window use 'Ctrl + V' to paste. Hope that helps!

Sure enough - link broken and comments gone from the Review window in InDesign. Since the original file wasn't working with Share for Review anymore, I manually entered all of the comments in the new file and just deleted the old one. There really needs to be a better way to repair the file when this happens.

Thank you for replying! I have a question before I try your recommendation. Won't saving and renaming break the Share for Review link, so all the comments I have so far will be gone?

I have a 25 page InDesign file that I've been working on for months. I've been using Share for Review the entire time without any issues until today. While viewing the Share for Review through the Creative Cloud Web, I tried to reply to a comment; but when I clicked Submit, I received the message "We are unable to post your reply, please try again." The same thing happened when I tried to highlight and post a new comment. Thinking the issue might be the website, I tried reply to a comment through the Review window in InDesign; I received the same error message. I tried to Update Content, but received the message "There was an error updating the artifact." I've cleared my cache and restarted, but still receive the errors. I was able to edit, update, and comment in other files - just not this one. I'm on a deadline. Is there any way to fix this? Please help!

Hello! Since Adobe's reply really didn't answer any of your questions, here's what I've learned about these items - hope it helps. - You'll probably just have to get used to the spread numbers - I've not found a way to change it. Having visible page numbers as part of your document can help you know what page you're on. - Unmapped comments happen when you delete the marker as you make the edit. For example, when you delete an entire senetence marked with a strikethrough, the strikethrough disappears and the comment becomes unmapped. You can work around this by typing a few spaces within the strikethrough (or highlight); remove the text, but leave the spaces to keep the comment mapped. If that's not an option, you can describe the location in your reply to the original comment. - There's no way to have the program e-mail the reviewers again, so my team e-mails the updated link to them directly to let them know edits are done and they need to review. Resolved comments don't disappear, they go to the background. You can see all resolved comments and markers by clicking the funnel in the corner of the comments panel and filter by Resolved. Good luck! 🙂

My team decided to proceed with our project. We started Share for Review with five booklets, shared with a dozen users. The reviewers added markers and made comments, and I started editing this week. Editing went fairly well with four of the booklets; with only a few glitches in the markers and comments between the published view and the InDesign view, I was able to edit the files and update the links. Alas, this stretch of good luck did not last. When I opened the fifth file, which is the longest booklet in this group at 35 pages, it was the same issue I described above - the published view had all markers and comments, but the InDesign view showed only the comments. No amount of shutting down and reopening or restarting has made any difference. My earlier tests around this issue proved that if I proceed with editing, save, and update the link, all markers will be lost; so we're essentially dead in the water on this booklet. Does anyone know how I can get the published view to accurately communicate the markers to the InDesign view? We're on a dealine so I need to complete the editing, but I can't proceed because my team and our reviewers all need to be able to see the markers so we know what has been edited. Please help!

Update to the update: After working through a couple the way I outlined above, the Share for Review started behaving normally - I was able to finish editing, save, and update the link with no further issues. I don't know what happened, but I'm not going to complain.

Update: The second file with missing comments that I reported seems to have righted itself. The first file I reported is still behaving strangely. The comments are now disappearing as soon as I open the file. This morning 08/04/22, I left the file open in InDesign and opened another Shared file; when I toggled back to the first file, the comments were back. I made an edit and the comments disappeared. I toggled to the second file, then back to the first file - the comments had reappeared and I was able to save. This makes no sense to me, but I'll do it as long as it makes it possible for me to continue editing the file - even if it's dreadfully slow. If anyone has any insight to this, please share.

Good Morning, Rishabh. I replied to your message in the post; but I didn't receive a response in the post, so I don't know if you saw it. We are using InDesign 17.3. As you can see from my address, I work for a State government agency; I'm not authorized to post a link or the file of our incomplete publication because it might be accessed by the general public. May I e-mail those to you directly? Have a great day! Sarah Bundy {Personal details removed by MOD}

I just lost comments for another file. When I open the published view, all markers and comments are there, but when I open the file in InDesign, it looks like there is no Share for Review at all. It looks lik this issue is happening again: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/indesign-share-for-review-update-the-link-deletes-comments/m-p/12946653#M477426

This is similar to the issue reported here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/indesign-share-for-review-update-the-link-deletes-comments/m-p/12946653#M477426. Except now, I don't have to update the link for the comments to disappear, all I have to do is make an edit! Today (08/02/22) when I opened my files, the markers were all there and I could see the comments in the Review window. I edited my first file, replyed to all comments, saved, and updated the link with no issues. But this afternoon with my second file, all of the comments just disappear every time I make an edit. I closed the file without saving it and when I reopened it, the comments were back; but when I made another edit, they disappeared again. I'm afraid to continue trying to edit this file because I don't want to save it and have the issue transfer to the published version the way they did here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/indesign-share-for-review-no-highlights-or-markers-comments-only/m-p/12987273. Please let me know if there is any way to fix this.

In the absence of any type of response from Adobe, my team decided to conduct a new Share for Review test with a different InDesign file. We've been commenting and editing for a week with mixed results. At first, things went pretty well and we only lost one highlight of a large block of text while retaining the comment; all other markers stayed in place. But something happened on 06/27/22: every highlight and strikethrough made by one team-member disappeared - just the way I outlined in my previous posts. I don't know why this would suddenly happen when it had been working fairly well for several days. Should we not have used Share for Review on a Monday? Seriously, this issue is so unpredictable I'm ready to believe just about anything. I honestly don't know what's going to happen when we start on the real project and share eight multi-page files with a dozen different users. I wish I could say I had high hopes, but our tests (this is the third one) tell us it will be a crap-shoot at best. Adobe, please read my posts and let me know something - anything - about this issue.

This is a follow up to my post from yesterday. After reporting missing highlights and misplaced editing marks yesterday, I moved on to editing today. I used the the published version as a cross-reference to my InDesign comments window so I could see what edits needed to be made. I made the indicated edits and entered additional comments. During this very slow and cumbersome process, I made sure not to Save or update the link until I was completely finished because I was pretty sure saving the changes and updating the link woud transfer the missing/misplaced markers to the published version. I was 100% correct. Everything that was wrong with the Share for Review markers in my InDesign view was now transferred to the Published view. I have attached a screen shot of the same page views from yesterday so whoever finally reviews this can see exactly what's happening. I still haven't heard anything from anyone at Adobe. Is anyone else having this issue?

It's been ten days since I reported this issue, but I haven't received a response of any kind from Adobe. This issue is still happening, so I would really appreciate a response. My team was finally upgraded to InDesign 17.3 last week, but I didn't see any change in the file I referenced in my last post. In an effort to eliminate any chance that something saved before the update was causing the issue, I deleted that Share for Review and used Save As to replace the InDesign file itself so I could start over with a clean slate. I started a new Share for Review with two reviewers - here's what happened: They successfully used all of the marking tools - pin, highlight, strikethrough, replace, and draw a shape - and typed comments to go with every mark they made. Good. I received notices from the Creative Clound that comments were made. Good. I viewed the published file through the Creative Cloud Web - I could see all markers and comments. Good. I opened the file in InDesign, then opened the Review window so I could see the markers and comments and start editing. All of the comments were there, but some of the highlights were missing and some of the markers were out of place. Not Good. Bad. Fail. Why doesn't this work correctly? I have attached screen shots so you can see the difference between the two versions. This is the same problem I reported ten days ago, so the upgrade to 17.3 did not fix the issue. Can someone please tell me if this issue is being worked on?

Originally posted this issue here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/indesign-share-for-review-update-the-link-deletes-comments/m-p/12961184/page/3#M478308 I have an InDesign file for which I started a new Share for Review. My first reviewer made several comments that were all mapped to highlights and other markers. I received notices of the comments through the Creative Cloud and my e-mail just like I should. When I first accessed the file through the Creative Cloud Web Published tab, all of the comments and markers were there. However, when I opened my file in InDesign, most of the markers were gone - all I had were the comments. So I closed the file, closed InDesign, logged out of Creative Cloud, waited; logged back in to Creative Cloud, opened InDesign, opened the file - but still no markers. I decided to make one of the edits to see if that changed anything. Referring to the Published (web) version that showed the highlight, I made the change to the InDesign file, replied to the comment, Saved (before anyone asks, I did not Save As), and updated the link. Alas... Not only did that NOT solve the problem in InDesign, now the Published (web) version was missing its markers, too. I refreshed the web page - no luck. I closed InDesign and refreshed the web page again - no luck. I closed everything, logged out of Creative Cloud, restarted my computer - no luck. My InDesign file is 18 pages with a dozen comments and two linked graphics and I've only shared it with two people. The really worrying thing is that this file is the start of a much bigger project for my team. We will be revising several booklets ranging from 18 to 75 pages and sharing them with up to a dozen reviewers. We really need Share for Review to work correctly to meet our deadlines for this project. This is a huge problem for us and, if it's not resolved, it may be a deal-breaker for our boss, who might never allow us to use Share for Review again because it's so unreliable. Please help!
