I am linking in files that will be used for different masks. I need to scale the link to the same size as the background image. How can it be done precisely? Drag scaling is not precise and it only snaps to one edge at a time making it useless.

I am trying to import a drawing that is at 1:500 scale. It is about 8" long on an 11x17" sheet: I can't figure out how to configure the DWG import so that I get the same size on the default AI artboard. 1/500 or .002 gives me something that's 2" long on the artboard: The DWG being imported is in Metric units, while the artboard is in SI.

Hi, I am trying to rebuild my resume using ID because I understand it will allow me to have more control and consistency of formatting, provided I know how to do it. The rather basic format I am creating is shown below: There are three primary features I need to capture. 1) Section Headings - basic all-caps 2) Item Entry - including nested style with bold position title and right-tab date range 3) Item Description - to be a bulleted list I am not really sure what needs to be defined as a character style and what needs to be defined as a paragraph style. As you can see I have started to define some paragraph styles but I quickly realized I'm not even sure of the correct way to "build" multiple types of styles together descending down the page. Should I be hitting shift-enter after entering the Section Heading? And then selecting a different paragraph style for the item entry? Then selecting shift-enter and selecting the correct paragraph style for item description? Thanks.

I am importing an 11x17 DWG at the original scale. It's clearly that size when opened in autocad. Why does it come into illustrator with a length of 33.33" ?

Is there a way to change the size of artboard used when importing a DWG or to detect the size automatically? I am also trying to figure out a way to batch apply layer settings to an imported DWG. I'm currently importing each DWG to its own artboard and the line settings should be global. Thanks

Command-F11 is supposed to open Paragraph Styles but it just detects as a volume decrease button press no matter which combination of alt keys I try.

I am trying to warp the image from the purple to the green. I have been playing with Arc, cylinder and bulge in warp but none of them are quite right. Is there a preset that will give me the intended effect or do I need to create a custom shape?

Hi all, sorry for the delayed response and thank you for all of the assistance in trying to identify this mysterious bug. I am guessing the issue is related to the unlicensed font, which was provided to me by another student and probably works ok in Word/Canva but not InDesign. I haven't tested this theory.

Hi, I added a separate TOC Paragraph style for my Intro/Conclusion/Credits sections in order to add space before to create graphical separation from other content. However, the page numbering style isn't exactly the same. I am using ^t for both but the new paragraph style doesn't extend the page number all the way to the end of the frame. I am trying to figure out how to get this to work. thanks

@Robert at ID-Tasker I was experiencing the same issue with this document a few weeks ago and thought that I might have previously posted for help but it appears not. This problem is occuring on both Mac and PC, InDesign v 19.4. @James Gifford—NitroPress Same Error: Luckily i was able to output the document by printing to PDF. That will work for now but I am very keen on resolving the exporting issue as I have to hand off this work to another team at some point. I was wondering if it might be related to files on a Google Drive to which I have been granted access and linked through a shortcut in my own drive. But I rebuilt the document from scratch using zip downloaded assets and the problem still occurs. I also just remembered that I was able to isolate the issue last time to one individual's PDF which I believe is somehow faulty. When I remove it, the project exports with no issues. Interestingly, it is on P8-9 and not 5 as mentioned in the error report. Thanks for your help.

Hi, I am having a serious issue with exporting a document with about 8 links. This is a critical failure and I cannot diagnose any issue because the task alert is not specific: I cannot identify any elements on page 5 that would be causing a failed export. When I delete the spread, it just tells me that the next one has the critical failure. This is really bad and I can't export my project!

I have a Revit project with a lot of curved geometry and DWG exports have much better linework quality than the revit vector print. I can bring the DWG into illustrator to easily verify the quality is much higher. But, I lose all of my line styles, as they get imported to AI with the CAD default colors assigned to the layers, requiring a lot of extra work to select layers and change the color back to black, etc. I am wondering if I can import the DWG plans into illustrator and somehow automate the process of changing how the layers display. Thanks for any thoughts

I made a template but it doesn't accommodate for variation in length of data (see circled), which occurs in most of the Sample Text fields at some point throughout the document. I am totally stumped about how to produce what the below diagram depicts: At first i thought i could simply create a simple two-column text field, begin by entering my Page Title in that paragraph style, and shift-enter to a new paragraph style, all defined paragraph styles having desired space after each paragraph. However, I soon ran into issues with line break not breaking to the next line, but rather the next column, and then when I solved that issue, I realized that I wasn't able to have different paragraph styles surrounding a line break:  So what is the way of doing this seemingly basic task of creating a dynamic and consistent template for a handful of headings and bodies? I have a paragraph style named Title, a parent about about 20 pages. I can change the style globally and see changes throughout the entire document. However, I need to change 1 instance of the Title paragraph on each page to a new style (call it Title_Paper). However, when I change the style of the text in the frame on the parent from Title to Title_Paper, the change doesn't propogate throughout the children. Do I have to change them manually and have the template be updated only going forward? Thanks
