I have the "automatically detect faces in all photos" in Catalog settings unchecked. That works for me, though you can still restart is by pressing the "pause" button beside the identity plate.

Unfortunately, I still experience that bug. I have two larger catalogues and one still shows that behaviour. Have upgraded both catalogues and running Lightroom 14.0.1. Have to keep the option "Automatically write Metadata to XMP" deselected until I find a solution ... 😒

This is really quite an annoying problem that has occurred with Lightroom 13 (13.3). Although this has been mentioned several times here in the forum in various forms (e.g. here https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-save-metadata-to-file-doesn-t-always-set-metadata-status-to-up-to-date/idc-p/14719954#M55243), unfortunately nothing has changed. I therefore leave “automatically write changes ...” switched off by default until I read in a new version of Lightroom that this bug has been fixed.

"When badges are shown on thumbnails the [In a Collection] badge looks like two folders" I think that does not work for smart-collections or am I wrong?

For about 10% of my photos, the metadata status in Lightroom always immediately jumps back to "changed", even if I have just saved it and no other programme is open. Together with the "Automatically save changes to XMP" setting, this causes an infinite save loop, which has an extreme impact on Lightroom's performance. What could be the cause of this? Any idea?

I am experiencing the same problem. Painfully slow, especially when using masks. Together with the map search/ map module problem, I think I have to go back to the previous version. I can't wait another month for the next version, when these problems might be fixed (or not).

"Copy the coordinates and in LR, select a dummy photo, and paste the coordinates into the GPS field of the Metadata > Location panel. Go to the Map module and double click the photo in the filmstrip, and the map will move to that location." Tanks John! Yes that is inconvenient, but for me much faster thank dragging the map around. That even work with me when I put the coordinates into the search field, without a dummy photo.

Here is an example. Before updating to 13.3 these 1003 photos were published to Flickr and selected by FOLDER ENDS IN (or ORDNER ENDET AUF in the German version I am using). Now Lightroom thinks they are not there any longer and suggests deleting them also from Flickr: The filter is: And the original Folder still contains all these and more, I want to publish: I think I have to go back to 13.2. It seems that with each update something great new comes with the update but something old, that was working is not working any longer .... 🫤

I have several smart collections for publishing (e.g. in flickr) and other purposes that use the criterium FOLDER ENDS IN. These Smart Collections always worked fine and were updated whenever I changed the folders they referenced. But since Lightroom 13.3, this criterion no longer works. It doesn't find the original photos and suggests deleting all the photos from the collection. Another annoying bug coming with an update. Any ideas? Thank you.

I have the same problem since the update to 25.7. When I try to open several files (e.g. 5) from Lightroom Classic in Photoshop, it does not work. A single file works. This is quite annoying as I always have to edit many files. Also with me, after I went back to Photoshop 25.6, the problem was solved.

Hi John, Thank you for your advice. I had already tried to reset LR's preferences and that didn't work. But then I tried your first possible solution and let Lightroom rebuild the "<catalog> Helper.lrdata"-file. That fixed the problem. Learnt something new again. Thanks for that, I really appreciate that! I am long-time Lightroom user (since Lightroom 3) and use it heavily almost every day but there is always something new to discover ...

Recently, I have discovered a strange behaviour of Lightroom when entering metadata. I am in the library view/grid view and have selected several images. If I then write something in the metadata (e.g. caption), it is displayed briefly and then disappears again. Only when I manually trigger "Read metadata from file" is it displayed again. "Selected photos" is ticked and the little eye symbol next to the metadata field. I didn't have this behaviour until a few weeks ago. What am I doing wrong? Windows 11, Lightroom Classic 13.

This describes exactly one to one what I have been experiencing with Loupedeck+ for more than a year now. At first I was not sure what was causing it, but after a lot of trial and error, it is now clear that Loupedeck+ is triggering this strange behaviour. It seems that Loupedeck has always had problems here (with the arrow keys). Half a year ago I had an additional problem. When in Lightroom Classic (then 12.2.1) in the Develop Module, Move to Next/Previous photo added the next right (or left photo) to the selection and didn't only move to the next photo. I contacted the support, but they only told me I should update to Loupedeck Software version: 5.6.2. and that would solve the problem. But I had already told them in the form, that I was using Loupedeck Software version: 5.6.2. My reference to this remained unanswered. So no real help from Loupedeck support.
