Semaphoric, you are spot on. The basic unit that Photoshop works with is pixels and pixels do not translate evenly into imperial or metric measurements. If a user defines his/her measurements in imperial/metric then photoshop has to translate that measurement into pixels. Since pixels are a fixes size and cannot be split then the translation from imperial/metric has to be rounded off to the nearest pixel, hence the inaccuracy. Since figuring this out I now always set my rulers and gridlines to Pixels and increase my canvas size by even numbers to insure eveness of canvas size on all sides.

Yes I understand that. However the Canvas Size dialogue offers several options as in pixels, centimeters, inches, points, among others. The 'centimeter' option has been working pretty accurately up to the recent update. If they cant get it to work accurately why have the option there in the first place... I appreciate the most accurate option will always be pixels and pixels cannot be broken into parts and they dont fit neatly within centimeters or inches..

Thanks for the reply. Yes I had considered your reasoning and it makes abolute sense. As I said, when i use pixels it does work correctly. My problem is it has always worked using centimeters as well and I've checked back on my images and the borderd appear to be accurate. This is not the case since the last update..

I'm having an issue when it comes to resizing the canvas for my images. I have been using this function in my work flow to add borders to my images as follows. Using Image>Canvas Size with the 'Relative' option selected I usually set the first border to .5cm (white) then I set a second border to .01cm (black) and then set a third border to 5 or 6cm (white). This has always worked perfectly for me up to the latest update. Since the latest update Photoshop does not apply the increase evenly on each side of the image. It applies more of the increase to the Bottom and RHS than it does to the Top and LHS. In my example above the very thin black border I tried to apply doesn't appear on the Top or LHS at all, it has all been applied to the Bottom and RHS. On closer exemination all of the borders (canvas size increases) seem to be applied more in favour of the Bottom and RHS. On experimentation I have found that by changing my 'Rulers" and "Grid Lines" to measure Pixels instead of metric centimeters/millimeters, when I apply my borders using the same work flow with "Image>Canvas Size" as before but using Pixels instead of centimeters/millimeters in the "Canvas Size" window it seems to work perfectly. I am using a high spec Windows 11 PC and currently running Photoshop Ver: 25.5.1 since 2024/03/02

Hi, Thank you or getting back to me, I appreciate your help. I did exactly as you asked, I removed the "Adobe Photoshop 2023 Settings" folder and started Photoshop. The problem still exists. FYI: I am using a Wacom Tablet Intuos Pro as well as a bluetooth mouse and I get the same results from both. kind regards Billy..

HI, I am having a problem using the ‘Rectangular Marquee’ selection tool in Photoshop 2023. (I'm not sure if its actually a bug or an incorrect setting) I regularly use the tool in conjunction with ‘stroke’ when applying borders to my images. In general, my image will be zoomed in to 66% or 100% and will cover an area much larger than my screen can display. When I drag my selection area the image will start to scroll across the screen, as expected, but will freeze before I have reached the end of my selection. If I reduce the zoom so that the image does not take up as much area, say 50%, it will allow me to select the whole image. When I’m making the selection I normally have the grid lines visible and set to centimeters/milimeters. I want to be able to select using the marquee tool when I've zoomed in to 100% At zoom of 50% or less it is difficult work with the grid as the lines are too close together. Occasionally this task works without problems and sometimes if I use the Purge tool it can also help. I have already tried: deleting Temp & Cache files, reinstalled Photoshop (My PC: Windows 11, I7-12700 Processor, 32gb Ram, 3060TI GPU. Screen is a BenQ 270c - 27”)

Thank Davescm, I acknowlege that some functionality of photoshop, especially 3D, depends on having a GPU installed. However, I'm coming from having an older i5 4th gen machine with no graphics card, using it for photo editing only and I don't ever remember being let down by the absence of a GPU. That said, if I do need a GPU in the future I can put one in (the thing then is for me not to get carried away and be tempted with some monster high end card). Hopefully my new machine will be future proofed for a few years to come, time will tell.. Billy..

Excellent insight Apusista. Before reading this I had just ordered a new PC for photo editing Lightroom/Photoshop and all my research confirms what you say. I went for an I7 12700K CPU and fast DDR5 RAM (32gb) and a fast 1tb SSD card (7000/5000mb R/W). I'm not convinced how much benifit I would see with a dedicated GPU so I left it out (I'll see how that goes) Good insight, thans you..

Great News (for me at least) There were updates available for Photoshop, Lightroom and ACR yesterday evening which I downloaded this morning. This seems to have done the trick my Lightroom - Photoshop connection is now working again. I do get a pop-up when launching Photoshop showing "Graphics Processor Compatibility Check". when I 'OK' this photoshop opens with my photo. (this popup can be hidden by checking the "Do Not Show Again" box at the bottom f the pop-up.. FWIW the new versions I have are: Photoshop 23.1.0 Lightroom 14.1 Camera Raw: 14.1 (I'm not sure if these numbers have changed). Thanks Adobe. I was planning on reverting to Photoshop 2021.

In my case - in Performance it says "Unknown GPU (UNKNOWN)" and the options are greyed out. If memory serves name cporrectly that was what it said in the 2021 version also. I am currently using an AMD Radeon HD 7500 Series display adapter.

Kaley6C19 - thats an interesting response that you got from Adobe. Thanks for the input.. I have seen no mention of my graphics card not being supported. If that's Adobe's response it begs the question, will they still charge us the monthly subscription if we cant get further updates.

This problem is far from being fixed. Today I have metodically uninstalled all 'Adobe' applications from my PC (Photoshop, Lightroom, Creative Cloud and Adobe Genuine Service) I then rebooted the PC, logged into My Adobe Account on the WEB. I reinstalled Adobe Creative Cloud allowing it to reinstall Adobe Genuine Service. I opened Creative Cloud and from there I installed Photoshop and Lightroom (in that order). Rebooted the PC. I Then launched Lightroom and tried to edit an image using Edit in Photoshop 2022. I got exactly the same result as before. After 100 sec I got an error message in Lightroom saying it couldn't open Photoshop. I OK'd the error message and then the image immediately opened in Photoshop. This problem is going on for over a month and its time we got some action from Adobe.

Hi, I am the one that put up the original post and this is getting al little over my head My computer is getting on a bit. It's a Dell XPS 8700 with an I5 4430 processor and has a AMD Radeon HD 7500 Series GPU. and 24gb Ram I have uninstalled the GPU and rebooted allowing it to reinstall. This has not resolved the Lr/Ps problem. In Lightroom, if I go into Preferences > Performance. The User Grapgics Processor is OFF and it remarks that the "Grapgics Processor Acceleration is not supported by your system". In Photoshop, if I go into Preferences > Performance it indicates "Unknown GPU (unknown)" and the remainder of the options are greyed out. These are no different to what they were before the Lr/Ps updated a couple of weeks ago and there was no issues with opening images in Ps from Lr. The issue with opening images in Photoshop from Lightroom happens regardless of whether I opt for editing the 'original' or a 'new copy'.

Update: Photoshop 2022 updated this evening to V23.0.2 apparently with some bug fixes. Unfortunatly the bug outlined in this threasd has not been fixed.(My Lightroom Classic is currently at v11.0.1) To me this is a signicant fault and by all accounts it is causing problems for a considerable number of Lr/Ps users. Surely someone at Adobe must consider it worthy of investigation. Adobe, please get back to us and let us know what is happening this problem and when we can expect a fix....

Since updating my subscription to Adobe for Photographers (Photoshop & Lightroom) I am having an issue when launching Photoshop 2022 from Lightroom v11.
If I right click on the image I'm working on in Lightroom and select 'Edit in Photoshop 2022' I am asked whether or not I want to edit a copy or the original (as I would expect).
If I select "Edit Original" everything works to plan, the image opens in Potoshop and I can proceed.
However:
If I select either "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments" or "Edit a Copy" I have an issue. I can see the copy being created on the Film Strip at the bottom of the Lightroom screen, Photoshop starts up and stops at the launch screen but the image fails to open in photoshop.
If I wait for 2 or 3 minutes I recieve an error message in Lightroom: "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2022 could not be launched"
If I then select 'OK' in the error message the image immediately opens in Photoshop and I can work away.
This morning an followup update to Photoshop 2022 (to Ver: 23.0.1) was installed and it made no difference. This afternoon Camera Raw also had a followup update to Version 14.0.1 and it has made no difference. The problem is still there.
Is this a bug or is there a some way I can fix the problem.
I'm using a Windows PC - Running Win 10 and it has 24gb of RAM

I'm having a very similar experience. Except it only happens when I select "Edit a Copy" or "Edit a Copy with Lightroom Adjustments". If I select "Edit Original" the file opens as expected in Photohop. I also have just updated to Photoshop 2022 and Lightroom Classic 11.0. This morning an update to Photoshop 2022 (to Ver: 23.0.1) was installed and it has mad no difference. This afternoon Camera Raw was updated to Version 14.0.1 and it has made no difference. The problem is still there.
