Swift update, I have updated Photoshop to 26.3 and its still the same. However, on a different MacBook that I have, on 26.3, I can see the Gradient controls, the other Macbook is on Seqouia, but I am not willing to upgrade my main macbook as I had some  non-compatible driver warnings for logitech and possibly a few oither things in the upgrade process, and there doesnt seem to be a log provided of the exceptions thrown during the upgrade process. ... Hi Jane, I am using Photoshop 26.2.0, on a Mac running Sonoma 14.6.1. In Photoshop View>Extras is Ticked, when I go into View>Show>Show Extras Options all available options are ticked (which includes Edit Pins). When I draw a gradient on a mask, there are no Edit Pins shown, so the only option I have is to keep redrawing a gradient until I get one that I can use. Using Cmd&H to toggle View Extras makes no difference, still no gradient repositioning controls appear. Apologies......................just twigged, its the Metadata setting, if I use Copyright only, the Original and Preserved File name rather than being empty are set to the current file name. If I export using  'All Metadata', then I do get the original and preserved file name. Thanks for this. I guess what I am after is finer control over the Metadata that is written. I have been using Lightroom classic to check the metadata, and that shows the 'new' file name in all file name fields. Using Exif tool, it shows the same thing, however from your detail below it looks as if your export is to the same directory, and the XMP file which contains the preserved file name is probably associated with the original RAW (CR2) file. I have looked at that Original File NAme and Preserved FIle Name, and they do not hold the original filename.   If I export a file as 'Josh-01' all three filenames, the Current, Original and Preserved are set to 'Josh-01' I was hoping to find the original Raw file name in the metadata. One other thought, I just 'stopped' the XMP update and quit LRC. Restarted, and LRC starts updating the XMPs again some 150 files, but this time pretty quickly, and I was able then to quit LRC with out issue.   ... View more

Thanks for this, I tried the metadata filter above, and 'corrected' all the errant images, but low and behold today I am back to watching 'Writing Metadata Changes into XMP. Please wait until the process is complete.' .......2.8%. It seems that any time you go back into your images and LRC recreates the previews, you are back with a load of spurious metadata updates. Only guessing, but it seems LRC holds off making these changes until you quit the application. Its a definite bug  introduced by this latest upgrade, a complete pain in the rear. ... View more

I knew I was tempting fate, it does seem that any images that are browsed, and that do not have the new settings get updated and the XMP rewritten. Additionally, the previews have to be reconstructed, even basic elements like the crop take a while to get reapplied.  ... View more

Hi all, I don't want to tempt fate, but have been using LRC 13.0.1 for a while now, and the XMP delay has gone away. LRC is starting up andclosing down OK now. It must be a cache problem, and with 90k of images its taken a while to resolve. Fingers crossed! ... View more

Hi Denis, following your post I have upgraded to 13.0.1 so thanks for that. My original proble with the Keyword list being absent repeated itself for c.4 minutes, and on quitting, the XMP still being written warning is the old one, 'Adobe Lightroom is not finished writing metadata changes into XMP, do you still want to quit? you will not lose any data idf you decide to do so.   However, thats a prolonged metadata write for a single image edit........something is seriously wrong with this upgrade.... ...
