Since I don't feel it would be right to take over the thread started by Steven, I start a new one. This thread is going to be dedicated to producing a movie as a result of those voluneers' joint efforts, who are members of Adobe Community.

The main objective for this project is to collaboratively create final product from scratch: from defining the project scope to finally publish a movie somewhere, be it a dedicated website or just YouTube or Vimeo, as we'll define later.

This main objective is not the only project's goal. It is assumed, participants will be able to work on a particular tasks so as to improve their own skills in a desired field via sharing creativity, knowledge and skills.

I also hope we'll gain the Forum moderators' support so as to be able to appropriately update this original post so that others, who might arrive here later, will be able to understand at which stage the project is that time.

Now let's try to define the project scope.

By 15 October we reached our first milestone and defined

Project Constraints & Quality Criteria

- 24 December 2013 is a strict deadline;

- All media used in final product, from sound to 3D model textures, must be created by the project participants. Utilising stock media in final product is not allowed;

- Missing media or incomplete elements must be replaced with placeholders, white noise or subtitles, which explain what is missing (e.g. 'nice music is playing on the background' or 'nice colour grading applied here' etc.);

- The project is accepted as successful in terms of quality control, if no less than 90% of all planned work is complete. The overall progress is calculated as the following ratio:

(SUM OF COMPLETE ELEMENTS MULTIPLIED BY THEIR WEIGHTS) / (SUM OF ALL PLANNED ELEMENTS MULTIPLIED BY THEIR WEIGHTS)

- The project is accepted as successful in terms of attractiveness to external audience, if we reach 1 000 hits within three months after final product release, where

100 hits = 100 website landing page visits = 10 visits of 2nd page = 10 movie views = 1 movie download.

The following hits distribution is expected:

600 hits within 1st month after release;

250 hits within 2nd month after release;

150 hits within 3rd month after release.

Discussion on the next project phase, planning tasks list and obtaining required resources, starts at comment #84.

Maybe some graphic elements or comps?

¯\(°_o)/¯

Joe, you're welcomed to participate at any stage and to any extent you might feel interesting or can afford time-wise - that's not a race or anything like that. Let's just try to treat the project as a serious production, get the final product consisting of various contributions of different people, like crazy quilt, and have some fun walking through the desert in the sundown:

wow, that was well done.. watched it all without understanding a single word ..but had fun anyway.  I like the way the lizard ran up and then got into the 'beat' with his new gait once he was close to foreground..

using maya I haven't animated any moving 'parts' yet.. my tutorial interest stopped with making shapes like this....

locomotive copy.jpg

eventually that tutorial walks through some gear stuff and hooking up the wheels so everything turns together with gears, and steam comes outta the stack and so on...plus paint and lighting...but I kinda got into other stuff ...so much to learn...sheesh..

Anyway, to do motion with soft ( biomorophic, animals, humans etc ) stuff with skeletons etc.. and timing all that ...and adding gravity etc...sheesh.. thats really intense..... I didnt looks closely at sand...did they leave footprints ??  was too much fun watching the animals singing to look at the sand I guess...

I got idea for the subject of the 60 sec TV commercial for our project... and IT IS CHICKEN !

Here is the back story....

Everyone knows that CHICKENS ARE THE BACKBONE OF THE FILM BUSINESS...

Everyone knows that WITHOUT CHICKENS THERE WOULD BE NO MOVIES MADE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD !

If your call time is in the morning, you will be eating ( CATERING TRUCK ---not to be confused with craft service ) eggs ...scrambled, breakfast burritos, omlet, etc .. some kinda egg thing is always the main thing.. ( cereal and oatmeal etc is not as popular as egg stuff ).

If your call time is in the afternoon...you will be eating CHICKEN... ( hamburgers are a big draw but chicken is king ).

And of course for dinner and supper etc.. it is CHICKEN ... ( fish, beef, pasta are always secondary to chicken in poplularity )...

So lets face it.. if it wasnt for CHICKENS NO MOVIES WOULD EVER GET MADE....

This leads us to the catering jokes I love the most...

Namely

Q: what came first, the chicken or the egg ?

A: depends on your call time

Q: why did the chicken cross the road ?

A: company move

chicken copy.jpg

CHICKEN....   FUEL YOUR IMAGINATION !

So in my head, I'm seeing some kinda content getting built up.. re: the story (script)...and also related to the back story ( PR, talkshow, still ads, magazine cover etc )...it is health related, fine art related, and FILM related ( creativity / product ).

It has potential for humour , high life style, low life style ( 1/2 hour catered meal and GRABBING CHICKEN to eat )..and sorta is starting to make sense with fast cuts, fast pace fast 60 sec product...starting to get some substance in my mind...

anyone kinda maybe think this might work too ????

Means shooting some tight shots and catering type 'lines' of people getting food... some actual food shots ( table top )...some close ups...people eating chicken, doing " work" before lunch is called or whatever.. gets kinda complicated...but is fast paced and should work okay I think... anyway is a thought...

Meanwhile I created an account at ZOHO Projects, registered Lounge Production company and set our project's draft, it looks like the following now:

Lounge. Project Draft.jpg

Rod, can you sign up for ZOHO as well so that we could get accustomed to its tools and test some collaboration there?

should i sign up for the free one ? that only gives about 10mb of storage ??  for one project ??

I can use my own server for website for ftp xfers.. but it means i have to set it up with a password and Id for all users and I use coreftp lite ( free ) to access that myself...  there is no limit on my ftp thing that I know of... at least 1 T is available I think...

Yes, sign up for free account - that will allow you to register another 'company' and set another one project. However, I don't think we need more than one project, and amount of storage space on ZOHO is not crucial, 'cos we are not limited to using ZOHO tools only. We just need to assess whether ZOHO can serve our needs, whether we feel comfortable with its interface etc. and can rely on it for the whole project or should choose another project management tool (e.g. find out where and how to set up PHP and MySQL server and install qdPM on it).

Here is how it should look like:

Lounge. Signing Up For ZOHO.jpg

So enter your 'company' name, your e-mail you're going to use for messages from ZOHO and invent a password if you want to try 'Portal Owner' role. However, so as to join the project I already created you seems don't need to sign up for ZOHO first, you should tell me your e-mail address in PM (as I mentioned, it shouldn't necessarily be your primary e-mail address, you can create a dedicated mail box for the project only), I'll add you as the project user, you'll get an invitation via e-mail to join ZOHO, click that link or copy the shortcut and paste it into your browser address bar - you'll be brought to the page with two fields: the first one for your ZOHO password and the second one for this password confirmation.

That's right, when you click 'SIGN UP NOW', you get back to blank fields. However, ZOHO sends you e-mail for your account confirmation. When you confirm your account, you can log in and start your own project.

I sent you PM, so you can reply and give me your dedicated for ZOHO e-mail address.

Also you can try if qdPM is easier for your. They provide demo here. Instructions how to log in to qdPM demo and with which role - Administrator, Client or Developer - are here.

RIP... MOUSE....

I just put win7 pro on mouse... over XP....and the mouse is now in the COMPUTER SPACE CEMETARY along with the original 'robodog' ID I had here in the forums....

WELL... I guess robodog is really in space...but mouse is in the ground.. with a headstone.. BYE MOUSEY....

It was a lot easier than in the past to put a new OS on puter...just install.. and it formats the root drive for you .. no need to wipe drive first... format...and then install the OS.. so that was kinda nice....

Now  have NOTHING on mouse... no more programs....no maya, no ms office, no nothing..... and looking at C drive.. there aint nothing there hiding...

The GOOD THING is that I actually immediately got into the adobe forums.. using my ID and password.. no more problem with the browsers I was having...

So this means I can get involved in collaborative effort to do cool stuff with people in forums.. and so on...

The PIG is still the pig ,... it is not on internet and has cs6 on it ... so it is happy...

The pig just sent a buncha flowers to the MOUSE HOUSE ( a wake is in progress .. a viewing and then a private burial svc later ).

update...

the mouse 2, the new mouse, has no email yet.. have no clue how to set that up.. must do it now though...I have NOTHING in my mouse 2 when I click on " programs"...

I have about 2 inches of black space around my monitor display... wasted space... even though it is set to 1080p.... and i dont remember what my graphic card is .. I suspect I have to install some nvidia stuff ...

I HATE HATE HATE this stuff.. for the past 30 years I've been very careful to keep things nice and neat...and secure....and simple....

and you know what bugs me the MOST ??????  IS THAT EVERYONE is doing their own THINGS...doing what they want to make cool stuff and have fun and have a nice life and be in love with people etc.... AND NOBODY CARES HOW MISERABLE I AM !

( could be a movie ? ... " the mouse " that roared ! !!!!   hehe.. that was funny...))

anyway, just kidding.. moving on....i do have to set up some kinda email thing.. so time for a beer and off to do that.. cheerio !

Rod, when I was installing Windows 7 over XP in 2009, it went in a similar way: I ignored Microsoft instructions on back up and decided the best way would be to back up all working data on a separate internal drive. It took several hours to transfer dozen of GB, and when I just thought I was safe...

I did neither unplug nor unmount that drive, and when Windows 7 was successfully installed I saw it was installed right on my back up drive, while Windows XP was carefully preserved as an alternative OS on my original OS drive. I was so grateful to Microsoft that moment, so many words to thank them (a whole lot of new ones) were rolling on the tip of my tongue... And I'm still not sure how it could happen: whether because of some Microsoft paranoids or because of my drives wrong mapping (connecting) order...

EUREKA

I dont know what happened exactly but I am having a "  I love MS 7 intallation program " moment...same thing with me...it DID NOT format my drive and all my XP folders were preserved....I also have the option ( haven't tried yet cause I dont know if it will adversly effect the win7 installation re: the internal problems I had with mouse ( root certificate problems ))...of starting from 'old OS ' (xp ).. it doesnt say " start from XP" it just says " old OS "...so far I've been able to get my email working with windows essentials ( live mail ? )....and this forum sign in stuff is working properly now...using the new IE.

whew, what a scare all this has been recently...

I dont know if I can use my old programs yet... until I try starting from the old OS...I'm gonna try NOT to ever do that... but I have so many programs there I might have to ... and then do what I need to get win7 good again... if it gets messed up ...

i put the new email for zoho into live mail and it should work ... i havent gone to zoho yet with new mouse ....will do shortly...

so I'm back in the game here.... yipee !

update on mouse..

the choice " start computer with old OS " dont work...some kinda corrupt file ...so only Win 7 on mouse now...

HOWEVER, I stil have all my old document files and folders from the XP installation ...so a lot of STUFF I need is still there....and I can drag that stuff into my new win7 desktop as needed.. so everything is cool...

I just wont have anymore ms office, maya, quark xpress, wordperfect, photoshop, etc etc.. so the new mouse is basically a internet , email and simple machine for doing really basic stuff...

Which is fine by me.. cause at least it  WORKS for internet now and the big 'scare' via simon's horseplay with my host server IP stuff is over with...

That happening right before the adobe hack and the new adobe log in pages and stuff like all happening at the same time was kinda freaking me out a bit... so thank goodness THAT is done with...

Just got back from hardware store ...got a buncha stuff yesterday there for mounting camera and stuff using 1/4" ....and had to get some more tie down bolts, washers, nuts etc... got some threaded rod and all kinds of cool stuff....little c clamps.... so I can kinda clamp stuff to my dovetail to spread the load on the aluminum ( so I dont crack off a chunk of dovetail ) and have steel to mount stuff off the dovetail...you know what I mean... just a buncha junk to build the camera ( with sound recorder and video recorder etc )...

so the snail is on the leaf, God is in His heaven, and all is right with the world...
