Bit of fun for our amusement.

Add to the thread by QUOTING what you consider is a lazy question from a lazy poster...

Lack of hardware or system details  wont usually count...and be careful about second language  situations.

Rule: NO discussions in the thread.  Let the quote speak for itself and stand alone.

Be careful it doesnt back fire on you

The foundation of knowledge is.... "how to ask a question" in the first place.

Me: "How do I get an answer Snarky?"

So if I posted that to you ..whats your helpful answer Snarky

Get it correct and I will give you a Correct Answer tick...and those will be the first points you have got from anyone.

I bet most young people have a totally different attitude toward technology and digital " tools " than older people like me. I thought it was really amazing and fascinating when computers came out for homes ( first IBM's, atari, commodore etc ) and wanted to learn about the programming ( basic ) and guts of the machines.. eventuall building a few pc's and really being into the internal stuff of hardware ( IRQ settings, Drive format types ( FAT ) and all that stuff...

I think younger people buy something, plug in the usb charger and expect it to just WORK.. period.  There friends probably tell them what is cool to get and so on. I don't think they have the fascination or enthusiasm about the guts of the tools or the technologies involved ( same goes for digital cameras and is why everyone thinks they can shoot their own commercials and weddings and events and movies ) and I suppose that's just natural. Those posting fast questions without any info about whats up or what they are using probably have no clue it matters... they just want things to " work ".  I doubt any of them would spend the time searching the forums to find this forum and this thread.. and find out how silly the questions might have been to the old timers or those who specialize in the technology and so on. So I really don't think there's a risk of hurting anyone's feelings.. and I'm sure that's not the purpose of this thread anyway..

It's more a sharing of mild amusement at some of the more silly posts ( like the joke about that person who tried to use thier CD drive as a coffee holder ).

I am sorry Snarky...

....as you are a benevolent soul, I  truly thought you would be able to help that first time poster phrase his question so we could help.  Maybe you could have helped him as well.

Fact is you help no one in this Forum and never have.

Your "Peon status" would actually mean you have done some work!

Meantime..hopefully you get some benefit and wisdom from those here that willingly and ably do so unconditionally.

The whole video doesn't import, only part.  I can import the entire video in AVS Editor, but not Premier Pro.

In its entirety as above!.

I am sure first responder will  have the stock request  for more info required.  Sigh.....

Hundreds of posts to inexperienced and less expereinced users proves you wrong in regard to any contempt.

I agree about my powers of observation.  I have no idea who your masquerade  covers or why you do so.

Congratulations on your 5 pts between yesterday and today.  You are now a peon.

The whole lazy questions are bound to get worst.

In the UK we have had text messaging in widespread use far longer than in the USA, the outcome is that we now have a whole generation of youngsters who speak in text format.  Their communication skills are limited and very, very brief as they are communicating on a peer to peer basis so us old guys have no idea what they are talking about, which is probably a good thing.

When they then continue their text speak in written format on a forum such as this then we have no chance.

It's always temping to reply RTFM or ..........search previous posts, it's been answered hundreds of times.

Col

Can I politely suggest that we do not get over personal or abusive in responses or Jim will no doubt lock the thread

Once upon a time, a decade back or so, there were rewards, of sorts, for participating in the forums. Not based on points, because those came much later.

The rewards were that some people were selected to beta test the software, and with enough participation in the beta program came free software. The beta testers often came from the forums.

I don't know if there is still such a thing going on. I am not part of it anymore if it is. I dropped out about CS4 and my lack of participation resulted in me never getting another free upgrade after CS3. Which was fair.

I believe that the points are supposed to serve a purpose in that newbies can tell who has offered lots of correct or useful answers. But I seriously doubt that most newbies realize that so the point is rather moot.

But it is possible that there is still a beta program and useful answers are used in determining who gets free software. But anyone who gets it can't tell us that they get it because they would sign an NDA. So I don't know.

I don't know about lobster, but back when I lived outside of California I got invitations to participate in stuff going on in San Jose. Of course now that I can actually attend such things the invitations have stopped. I imagine that there might have been some free lunches involved back then.

Steven

Conversely there is an argument that a MVP with four stars is spending so much time on the forum answering questions that they cannot possibly be spending many hours working and hence actually using the software productively.

Ergo, those that cn do those that cannot teach.

The free lunch issue.....the fourth law of business states.....there is no such thing as a free lunch.

There is, however, a free BREAKFAST, sponsored by St. John's Church.. on 4/29/2014, of pancakes, special locally made sausages, and some other stuff... in the community room where I live.

Sign up so that they know how much batter to bring etc... and eat FAST.. cause it is only goin to be happening for ONE HOUR !!!!!

I plan to bring a shoulder bag lined with plastic ... so I can get one load of stuff and put it in my shoulder bag to eat later... and go back for 2nds right away ....and eat that in the community room.. therefore getting A FREE LUNCH too !

Speaking of free lunches... one more note...

I have some rib eye steaks and special nice hamburgers from Omaha Steaks that I can't eat because I end up choking on stuff I can't chew.. large chunks of meat end up stuck halfway down my throat and I have to throw myself across the coffee table to simulate a self administered Heimlich maneuver....so I have all this STUFF just sitting in the freezer...so if you are driving anywhere around Mound MN. feel free to stop by and I will give it to you. It is in the original nice plastic super cold plastic stuff that Omaha Steak uses to make stuff last a long time and taste good.  That could be a " free lunch " for you someday then. But don't think you can bar b q it around here cause there is currently a super scary snow storm warning and flooding warnings and tornado warnings and so on. I think the weatherman likes to scare people cause he gave all those warnings with a big smile on TV this morning.

Ergo, those that can do, those that cannot teach.

Ah, well, yes. And I fall squarely into that category. No question about it.

I am not a talented editor but I know how to use the tools.

At work, I am not a talented design engineer, but I can implement other people's ideas quite well. Most talented engineers need guys like me around to put it all together and present it to customers. Some can do it all, but not many.

When it comes to video, I can be very useful to an artistic sort that needs a little help to get their vision on the screen. But, alas, I don't think I will ever get to the point where I am that artistic fellow.

I am working on it diligently with my photography. And maybe, someday, I will get there. And if I am very lucky, after a lot of hard work, I might even get to be considered "artistic". Will that ever spill over into video? It might. I don't know that it will, but it would be nice.

In the meantime, one of my hobbies is helping people on the forum that got me started back in 2001. I have no idea how some of the other guys balance work and forum participation, but I can tell you that I generally use it to get my mind off what I am doing so that I can go back to it with a new perspective.

If I am working on a photograph in Photoshop, I never consider it complete until I have been away from it for at least a few minutes. I also post while rendering or exporting in Pr or Ae.

When I first got into the film biz ( as a crew member, grip ) there were some non union jobs around where some people asked me if I was available to work on certain jobs. There was even a guy who called me to advise about some still photo tricks to get certain " shots"  ( using still camera with fast frame rates to shoot some stuff for a movie being shot in Atlantic City .. some card playing thing using a time lapse thing... at that time the fastest frame rate was about 3 frames per second but you could bump it up if you locked the mirror up .. think it was nikon camera back then.. like around 1980 ? ).  I am old and keep thinking of the past now... so , sorry.. I haven't yet got into shooting out the window today so I can live in the " present ".  But anyway, try to remember that 'union' film workers are really freelance workers ( not like employees who work in some factory every day, like staff or permanent employees ... it's a different animal.. so even union members of film stuff get called about non union jobs .. cause it's all word of mouth mostly among crazy people )

So anyway, I got called and asked if I would work on some porn movie.

Oddly enough it was a call from the same guy that asked me for help about the still camera thing ( which I advised him on and they did what they did to some extent based on my cool advice ).

So I was thinking about what working on a porn movie might be like.. who wouldn't ???  And my first thought was " those who can, do.. those who can't teach, or else they film OTHER people DOING ! "

I figured I would get really horny moving the camera around and helping to light the scenes and getting the actors to hit their marks ... and in the end declined working on porn movies in this lifetime.  I think it must be way more fun to be able to DO instead of TEACH that stuff... and I figure anyone who can do neither one.. just FILM IT must be really bummed out ...

????

well, back to my new hobby.. shooting out the window...

and guess what ? YES ! ITS BEER THIRTY ! YIPEE !
