Blurry text

I have a Captivate project with a lot of text in it. When viewing the project in HTML, it looks great. As soon as I embed the swf file into my e-learning product, the text becomes larger, darker, and blurry. And this isn't just the text in text boxes - it's also the text in graphics. I tried many workarounds, to no avail. When I googled the problem, it seems that this is a known issue for Captivate. In the end, we totally re-built the project in Flash - not a good solution.

Adobe, please fix this problem, and release a patch for it. Right now, I'm wondering why I bought the product. Alternatively, please provide a workaround.

Thanks.

Hi RoseMJ

It would seem that your E-Learning product is scaling the Captivate .SWF either larger or smaller than the size at which you recorded it. This is what causes the "blurriness" to happen. It's because any time you adjust the size of a bitmapped image (and that's what these beasties are in Captivate) you suffer a clarity loss. This occurs because you are either squeezing them together (in which case the computer has to remove some and adjust the colors of the nearby elements) or you are spreading them apart (in which case the computer has to calculate the color of pixels to add).

Basically, the workaround is to not change the size of the recorded project!

So I hear you asking "Well, that's all well and good, Mr. Smarty Pants, but how do I prevent it from happening?". (Did I read your mind?)

Basically, you need to see if you can determine what size your E-Learning product is presenting the .SWF. Once you do this, you can then adjust your Captivate project size to match. And once you do THAT, your resulting projects should essentially be every bit as clear as they are when you display them in the HTML page that Captivate creates to display them.

Also, your mention of "Adobe, please fix this problem, and release a patch for it." will fall on deaf ears here. This is because the forums are largely peer-to-peer (or user-to-user) support. Adobe does not make a habit of monitoring them. If you wish to report your wishes so they DO hear it loud and clear, Click here and complete the Wish Form.

Cheers... Rick
