If this is how you “fixed” the smart guides, can you give us a “dumb guides” option to have them work normally again?  The shift-key no longer constrains dragging behavior when smart guides are on -- if I drag something horizontally with shift pressed it “helpfully” jumps up and down trying to “helpfully” align it with irrelevant objects.  So duplicating an object with “paste in place” and dragging horizontally until it snaps to a guide is now impossible.  If I turn “smart guides” off then nothing snaps at all -- not even to an actual guide.  This breaks every rock solid established behavior in Illustrator going back at least 35 years.  You’ve effectively made any precision drawings impossible with this move.  I guess i’ll downgrade until this is figured out, or just learn to enjoy misaligned elements in my work..

Hello @GrumpyOldScienceGuy

I’m sorry to hear about your experience. I hope the problem is resolved by now. If not, could you try changing the Smart Guides tolerance setting in Illustrator’s preferences and let us know if that helps?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

it would be nice to know what you suggest for tolerances to get back the precision and ease that worked before the update
