PNG not honouring semi-transparency

Hi,

I have a set of icons that are shapes of colour, multiplied over semi-transparent white (80% transparent) - to allow for any colour they are placed on to slightly show through. ai's and eps's work fine when placed - but I can't get the png export to honour the whites transparency, they all export as solid coloured shapes.

I understood you were talking about semi-transparent white (80%). But it seems that you are referring to the Multiply.

Blend modes are never kept in a PNG file. Only opacity will be saved.

These two images show the transparency issue - I have placed a black box behind the shapes. In illustrator the box is visible though the coloured shapes, however when I place a black box behind the exported png in photoshop the shapes are solid with no show-through.

Perhaps you save them as PNG 8 instead of PNG 24.

no, I've tried 24 and 8. I've tried exporting for screen as well as the direct 'export as' functions. Always solid, never showing transparency.

Can you share an example .ai file?
