Cannot complete your request because the scratch disks are full

When I attempt to crop a photo I get this message: Cannot complete your request because the scratch disks are full. In fact one scratch disk has 62+ GB and the other has 52+ GB available. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Correct answer Chris Cox

Either the disks are already full, or the operation you are attempting will use more scratch space than you have available (like if you crop and forget the resolution value to create a HUGE document).

If anyone still haven't solved this problem by following all these other comments, try to just select the crop tool and hit the "clear" button in the options bar at the top. I worked with me, hope it does the same with you!

@ Chris: That response is the intelligent and obvious answer I also assumed. However neither of those is true. I have checked everything thoroughly. I went to my older Photoshop and completed the operation perfectly without a hiccup. Whatever it is, is a problem only in my current CC version of Photoshop. I don't want to hop back and forth between current and older PS each time I am ready to crop.

If you are encountering this when cropping - then it is almost certainly a resolution value that you forgot about, and the result would create a HUGE file that exceeds the space available on your scratch disks.

62+52=114GB I have seen Photoshop use more then that did you look at your disk space while Photoshop was displaying that message.  If you first close down Photoshop. Photoshop  will return the scratch space it used and you will have 114GB free.  You need to look at the free space while Photoshop is up and running.

@Mylenium: My computer is running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro, 16 GB Ram, AMD Radeon 6900 series with I don't remember how many GB of ram (I installed it maybe 2 1/2 or 3 years ago). I have 4 physical hard drives with Raid 0 and Raid 5 configurations. I have been using my system full bore since I built it, and the entire configuration has been excellent for my processes until now. Is there any other specific information that you would need to have an idea of what the problem may be? Thanks.

@ JJMack: My scratch disk available volumes were wide open with 62 GB available (S: drive) and 52 GB available (O: drive). I'm puzzled because I have used this configuration on my computer for the past 2 1/2+ years with flawless function. I'm not new to setting up and configuring my computer, but I'm new to this odd error message.

You have not provided any technical details like system info or what your scratch disks are actualyl configured in PS, so nobody can know.
