After updating to 22.5.1, getting "Could not complete your request" when opening files or quitting.
Yesterday I updated to the latest version of Photoshop, then shut down the PC. After starting it up again, I started getting the error "Could not complete your request because of a program error." when opening a psd file from Windows Explorer, and when trying to quit Photoshop after I have already gotten the error message. Clicking on a previous file within the interface gives a "waiting" mouse icon for a second, and then nothing happens.
I have:
- Rolled back to previous versions of Photoshop, from 22.5.0 to 22.4.1
- Updated my graphics card drivers
- Shut off GPU accelleration. This works to open the files, but I keep getting the error when quitting Photoshop
- Turned off "generator" for plug-ins, but it seems to be turning itself on again. Anyway, it doesn't seem to be the cause because what helps is deleting my preferences. However, this is still a problem (see below)
- Deleted my preferences
The software seems to be stable again after deleting preferences. I have started reïntroducing the backup preferences file by file, and some files seem to corrupt the software again. So far, this has happened with Actions.psp and Keyboard Shortcuts.psp. I have been able to get back patterns, brushes, and some other things.
If this was all, I'd just rebuild my preferences as far as I can and redo the rest manually. But adjusting any preferences in the preference window corrupts the software again. Therefore, I am not able to get back to my workflow or adjust the software to work as I need it to. I have tried with the latest versions of Photoshop and earlier versions. I keep getting the same error.
I downloaded the diagnostic plug-in, and this is the result:
