Files are larger after cropping

I am digitizing old catalogs and magazines with a flatbed scanner, then using photoshop to crop and straighten the scans. My file sizes (TIF) are usually around 15-20 MB before cropping, but after cropping the file size goes up to around 30-40 MB. Is there a specific reason for this, or am I doing something to make this happen?

Make sure Delete Cropped Pixels is checked if you want smaller files.

Leave it enabled if you want non-destructive crop so you can save and undo your crop - knowing it creates larger files.
