Can you stop photoshop from logging certain history states>?

I'm often switching layers off an on to compare before and after — e.g. I use a curves adjustmet layer, then switch off and on to check how it looks. What annoys me is that this fills up my history panel with what is, essentially just a viewing issue rather than an edit. Is there a way to stop history logging the switching off of a layer?
