Video Hardware

My CPU/GPU usage is very low due to a bad setup of HHD/SSDs. Has anybody an idea if an USB-C Port can handle effectivly several drives at once over a dockinstation. I'm a Laptop editor so I always have to struggle with few a small internal drives and few ports. Thanks in advance!

I have a HP laptop. With that particular GPU which is more than 1 GB of ram? 1024 actually equals over a 1.024gb. So the issue I'm having is I can't use it in the mercury playback. is there a way as my renders are slow? I have to use my processor and ram which is a i7 and 16gb but it still renders slow.

I just put together a new machine, i7 6800k, 32 GB RAM, and GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card. Hard drive configuration:1.) OS, Premiere CS6 and CC on U.2 drive, 2) Cache, Previews, and Preview Scratch Disks on separate 1TB SSD, 3) Captured Video/Audio and Scratch Disks on another 1TB SSD. I am editing GH4 4k .MOV files and am having a problem when I hit the "Toggle Track Output" and toggle between layers of 4k. It starts to drop frames like crazy, even if played at 1/8 the resolution. This only happens when I hit the toggle button, and not if I am just playing numerous layers of 4k footage. This happens with both CS6 and CC even with current updates. Any suggestions? Thanks

Crashing in my version of Premiere Pro CC 2017.0.2 v 11.0.2 (47) has become intolerable. When manipulating clips in the main timeline of my project, I get beachballed and have to Force Quit. It happens with Ripple Edit, copy/paste, even moving clips vertically from one video channel to another. It happens roughly every 10 minutes.I have an iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, late 2014, 4GHz i7 processor, 32GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory, AMD Radeon R9 4096MB graphics card. The prproj runs from an external mechanical 2TB HDD, and is about 80MB in size.Among the fixes I've tried:uninstallation & reinstallationchanging Renderer (OpenCL / Metal / Software only)Removing Unusedbreaking the 120MB prproj file into separate smaller prproj filesdisable Composite Preview During Trimcopy and pastingHere's a recent screenshot (without beachball)I'm completely at the end of my tether and will be forced to find another editor unless this can be solved?[Moderator note: moved to best forum]

I am having dual monitor problems ever since I upgraded to Premiere Pro CC 2017. With dual monitor setup I am able to edit and view on both monitors just fine, but when I try to export the export screen does not appear and I have to Force Quit. When I re-boot and try to export with one monitor it exports fine. Wish I could find a fix.

I am looking at an upgrade for my aged PC and trying to plan out ssd/hdd setup.I plan to get an Intel® SSD 600p Series PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD - 1800MB/sRead & 560MB/s Write as well as a Samsung 850 pro.  I already have 4TB to store files (2 4TB drives in Raid 1).I believe, if I were to go off of advice seen in other threads, this is what I should do:Boot/OS = 850 proM.2 SSD = Current project files/CacheKeep HDD RAID 1 as longterm storage.But what is the point of cache if you have to have your current working files moved to fastest drive?  Isn't the pupose of the cache to make a copy of the file in a format and place that speeds up reading for editing?In other words, theoretically, couldn't I keep all files on HDD RAID, put cache on M.2, and OS on 850 pro?

Hello,I'm building up a machine. I'm going to use that machine mostly for After Effects, CC and Cinema 4D. I'm thinking to get a Core i7-6900K Processor (20M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz), 64Gb of RAM and EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FOUNDERS EDITION. I'm not sure about the graphics card though. Do you guys recommend something else like Quadro or Tesla rather than GTX ? my budget for the graphics card is no more than $700.Thanks.

Hello Everyone.I am in Panama and my Panasonic HVX-200p is in the U.S. I won't have an opportunity soon to retrieve it as the shipping and/or overweight luggage costs are very expensive here. I'm wondering if capturing on a tablet would suffice for internet only videos. However, I'm reading that phones offer superior video capture now. If I can't get a lossless output, then I think H.264 may suffice. Since I'm producing for internet only, nothing like broadcast quality is required. Then again, what about expensive cameras, GoPro? Camcorders? DSLR's? Something else? All shooting will be outdoors in daylight.I have discovered that there are wireless lavalier style mics with 3.5mm inputs for devices. I need to buy one, although I'm not sure which one(s) would offer reliable quality up to 10 feet or so distance. Perhaps someone can recommend one (or more).If I may impose upon you all to offer your opinions on my best, low-cost alternatives, I would be most grateful.Regards,Paul

Hello everyone I currently have a 3 drive system in my PC and was wondering what the best use of the drives is in order to make Premiere run in the best possible way. The drives are: 2x 240GB Sandisk SSD's - 500MB/s for read/write speeds1x 240GB Corsair M.2 drive - 3200MB/s read and about 1800MB/s writeI currently use them like this: 1x 240GB Sandisk SSD - Windows 10 1x 240GB Corsair M.2 drive - Adobe Premiere + After Effects + all the media I use in my project (including all videos, music, photos, etc)1x 240GB Sandisk SSD - Scratch DiskQuestion 1: Is there a better way to distribute the space across the 3 drives? I am working in further education and we have a strict budget. We need new computers that are powerful enough to run Premiere with no issues we have been looking at a HP Prodesk 400 G3 Small Form Factor. However the Graphics card in this machine does not appear to be sufficient enough for Premiere so we need to look at putting a Graphics card that will fit in the machine and will adhere to the strict budget. Does anyone have a suggestion as to which card will fit in the HP unit but that will also be good enough to support premiere.

Recently upgraded to Adobe CC 2017. Use Premiere Pro, Photoshop and occasionally After Effects.I am able to use these programs as needed however, my video editing is far from 'smooth'. Playback is jerky at times. Video will begin playing smoothly in the timeline but after a few seconds it will start to stutter. So I then have to stop the playback and restart it. Just creates way longer editing times that it needs to be.So my question is whether I should be looking at upgrading components of my current (older) PC or looking at a new build. I've been editing editing on a Lenovo thinkpad customized with an ssd, and it's time to upgrade to something more powerful. I've been doing research and have been seriously conflicted between two options. They have the same processor and graphics card, and mostly similar. I would love to hear your thoughts on this! Hi,I was speaking to another Forum member, Neil about some issues I was having with my MBP 2014 I7 Model, and he said that I would get some help here .Basically, I recently got into colour grading with Lumetri. However each time I add any effects to any of my clips, the video playback s really jumpy. As soon as remove the effect, and restart Premier, everything goes back to normal.After speaking to Neil, we came to the conclusion that my GPU is simply not powerful enough for grading.Laptop Specs:MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)2.2 GHz Intel Core i716 GB 1600 MHz DDR3Macintosh HDIntel Iris Pro 1536 MBIs there anything I can do to my current laptop to enable me to colour grade without any issues i.e. an external GPU?Or I am simply going to have to get another machine? HiI use an Imac in my office and work with After effects on small sales video jobs - nothing too fancy.  I need to get a macbook for my upcoming trips.  I am very reluctant to pay for the latest model since the touchpad is not that important for me.  I thought I might get a refurbished model.  What would be my most suitable configuration to run AE smoothly and render stuff in reasonable amounts of time?  Can I get away with a 2015 Macbook pro on 16mb ram?Thanks.

Theses are some of the programs I use:Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere,  After effects, Nuke, Audition, Maya, zbrush, Cinima 4D, and at some point I also want to use some particle programs  - like Houdini - too.I have been looking at the new Dell Percision 5200, with customizing for $2432 I can get it with a: Intel core 17-7820HQ, 32G ram, Nvidia Quadro M1200 W/GB GDDR5, M.2 PCIe 512GB SSD (class 40), 6-cell (97wh) batteryI am open to suggestions for others, I am not as up to date on hardware as I would like to be. Any information of what to look for, or suggestions of laptops that seem like they might suit my needs would be appreciated. i have an asus m32dc desktop computer I currently use to edit videos is GoPro studio. I'm looking to start using premiere but not sure if my computer can handle it. Just looking for tips on what changes I would need to make and what version of pro I should get. I'm running windows 10 with intel core i5-6400 @ 2.7 ghz And 8gb of ram. Let me know what other specs you need. Someone suggested going back to windows 7 stating it runs smoother, so any opinions on that are welcome. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi everyone. I am looking for a new cpu that would run Premiere smoothly. I am currently on windows 10 but may have to switch to a mac (have to do Apple ProRez delivery's). The Mac Pro (trash can style) is just too expensive, and the mac mini is probably too slow so I was looking at an iMac. But a lot of what the affordable models have only have is an i5 processor. Would Premiere still run smoothly with something like that especially if I am editing 4k footage. Any advice would really be appreciated.[Moved to the Hardware Forum.]
