Japanese text-to-speech does not work on Acrobat for macOS

I am experiencing an issue with the Read Out Loud feature in Adobe Acrobat for macOS.

Environment

  • macOS: 27.0.1 (26A434)

  • Adobe Acrobat: Build 26.2.22031.0

Problem

  1. When I start Read Out Loud, the following message appears: "This system does not have a Japanese voice available."
  2. Then, Acrobat reads English text in PDF documents but skips Japanese text entirely.
  3. After reading is finished, selected Voice is changed to “Albert” (not “Kyoko”)  in Acrobat's Read Out Loud preferences.

Troubleshooting performed

  1. Installed the Japanese voice "Kyoko" in macOS.

  2. Selected Kyoko in Acrobat's Read Out Loud preferences.

  3. Disabled "Use default voice."

  4. Confirmed that the Kyoko selection persists after restarting Acrobat.

  5. Confirmed that macOS can read Japanese correctly using Kyoko.

  6. Confirmed that the Terminal command say -v Kyoko "これは日本語の音声テストです" works correctly.

  7. Confirmed that Kyoko appears in the available voices listed by say -v ?.

  8. Confirmed that Japanese text can be selected and copied correctly from the PDF.

  9. Confirmed that the PDF document language is set to Japanese.

Despite all these checks, Acrobat cannot recognize or use the Japanese system voice.

Could you investigate whether this is a compatibility issue between Acrobat's Read Out Loud feature and the macOS speech synthesis system?
