日本語IMEがONのとき、Adobeの1キーショートカットが効かない問題について

ここは日本語コミュニティなので日本語で書いていただけばよいのですけど、シングルキーショートカットに関してはどの日本語IMEを利用しているかといった問題も下欄できるとは思います。日本語に関しては状況が特殊で、IMEにまつわる知見を持った技術者が欧米圏では少なく、フィードバックに関してはAdobeに限らず効率よく対応できる状況ではないというのが実際のところでしょう。
多くのユーザーは予防的にIMEを無意識に殺してからショートカットを入力するといった使い方を強制されています。
ショートカットの扱いが、それぞれ異なるのは元々が別の会社で開発されたものであるという歴史的経緯が大きいでしょう。殆どの製品はAdobeが開発したものではありませんから。

既存のユーザーとの兼ね合いや利用されているライブラリの違いというのも中々に統一することは難しい面もあるでしょう。

とはいえ、ユーザーが声を上げ続ける事によって製品は改善されていきますので、是非フィードバックとして描いていただくと良いと思います。
ただ、日本語コミュニティでは、いくら書いても技術者には届きませんのでグローバル版に書き込むのが得策です。

長々と書いていますけど、この件に関してはユーザーは飼いならされた羊です。多くの人が無意識にIMEをオフにしている、又は入力する時だけIMEをひらがな入力などに切り替えるといった運用をしています。

I was in the middle of retouching a portrait in Photoshop, with the Japanese IME on after typing a layer name.

I hit V to switch to the Move Tool — except I didn't.

The keystroke was handled by the IME instead, while I continued working under the assumption that the tool had changed.

It only takes a few seconds to notice and correct, but when the same kind of interruption happens repeatedly during shortcut-heavy work, it becomes more than a minor annoyance.

That got me testing the behavior more seriously.

Here's what I found.

Windows vs macOS

On Windows, single-key shortcuts such as V, A, and M in Photoshop and Illustrator can be intercepted by the Japanese IME before Adobe receives them as shortcut commands.

Adobe Support confirmed that this is the basic mechanism.

In my testing on macOS, however, the same conflict is greatly reduced or almost absent.

InDesign vs Photoshop / Illustrator

Even on Windows, InDesign appears to handle this differently from Photoshop and Illustrator.

Same operating system.
Same Japanese IME.
Different behavior.

That is what I find particularly interesting.

Numeric fields on macOS

There is another example.

If I type full-width Japanese numbers:

１２３

into a numeric field, they are accepted as:

123

If hiragana is mixed into the input, the invalid input is rejected.

This suggests that at least some Adobe applications are able to interpret the context of an input field and make decisions about how the input should be handled.

So the real question is no longer simply:

"Why does the Japanese IME interfere with shortcuts?"

It is:

Why do applications from the same company handle the same multilingual input situation so differently across operating systems — and even across Adobe's own product line?

I have asked Adobe Support about this, including:

- whether the behavior is intentional or a known limitation
- where Adobe believes the root cause lies
- why InDesign behaves differently
- why macOS behaves differently
- whether application-level handling is technically possible
- whether this is being considered for future improvement

Adobe Support has told me that they are checking with the relevant team and will respond by email.

What I would really like to know from other users is the practical impact.

Has this ever caused you an actual mistake — not just annoyance, but lost time, an unintended edit, or rework?

Do you consciously switch the IME on and off while working because of this?

Have you developed habits or workarounds without even thinking about them anymore?

And I would especially like to hear from Premiere Pro users.

Does the same kind of input-mode / shortcut conflict occur there, or is the behavior different again?

Even a one-line report would be genuinely useful:

"Windows / Illustrator / Japanese IME / same problem"

"macOS / Photoshop / Japanese IME / no issue"

"Windows / Premiere Pro / Japanese IME / shortcut conflict"

I'm interested not only in whether the behavior can be reproduced, but in what effect it has on real creative work.

I'll update this thread when I receive Adobe's technical response.
