エラーの意味としては、『「＜(不等号記号)」はHTMLのタグとして使われ意味を持った特殊文字ですので、エスケープ文字を使うようにしなさい』というものです。

文章内に不要な「＜」を残している場合にも表示されるので、仰るとおり削除すればエラーは出なくなります。

エスケープ文字には以下のような組み合わせがあります。

＜ のエスケープ文字は ”＆ｌｔ；”　　

＞ のエスケープ文字は ”＆ｇｔ；”．

＆ のエスケープ文字は ”＆ａｍｐ；”

”　のエスケープ文字は ”＆ｑｕｏｔ；”

こちらのフォーラムでこの文字を入力すると変換されてしまうかもしれませんので、念のため全角で記述しています。他にもありますが、ご参考まで。

また、Dreamweaverのデザインビュー上でこれらの文字を入力すると、自動的にエスケープ文字に変換してくれます。文章内でこれらの文字を使う場合は、デザインビューの方で入力すると 楽です。
