The Path being set to subtract results in a Selection of everything minus the area it encloses.

When you subtract that from the active Selection the result seems to be as expected.

Apparently you set the Path to subtract and set the »Make Selection« to subtract, too.

That’s one too many if you want to remove the shadows from the Selection.
