Hi. I try to post again the question: how to manage a "Before CS2 Illustrator swatch Spot colors Pantone with CMYK values (as the color definition)"? If i change the Color Mode form "CMYK" to "Book Color" the result color is different... PS: After CS2 a Illustrator swatch Spot colors Pantone with CMYK values is only a spot color (not an official/real Pantone swatch). Thanks again

Great Doug! This is the key: Pantone Plus color libraries Before CS2, spot colors from Pantone and other systems used CMYK values as the color definitions. CMYK values were whole numbers. Pantone color books, introduced in CS2, use Lab values as the color definitions. The equivalent CMYK values aren't always whole numbers. So how to solve if i have a before CS2 Pantone Swatch? If i convert from CMYK to Color Book the color change... Thanks.

Will you be printing this logo with that partcular Pantone colour or a CMYK interpretation of it? I do not know what to do... If i print a Pantone the color is wrong for the designer. If a print a CMYK interpretation the company say me that he want print the Pantone 287C that is in the brand book. How was the swatch option "color mode" settings in the very old release of Illustrator? What could be changed in the last 10 years? Thanks.

Hi there I have a very strange problem: i open a very old eps file generated with a very old illustrator (i think cs1 OR cs2). This file have a very simple logo filled with swatch spot color mode CMYK named "Pantone 287 C". The author of the logo (a 70 years old designer) say me that this was a original Pantone Color... but this is only a spot color cmyk (that is very different). Is it a Pantone? Yes, so i change the color mode to "Book Color" (and saved to .ai) but the designer say me that the color is not correct and that something is changed in settings of the swatch. He remember that have used a original "Pantone 287 C" swatch (not a spot CMYK swatch) and that in the old version of Illustrator the Pantone swatch do not have Color mode "Book Color" but something different that he do not remember. I do not understand and for me it's very difficult to solve: any ideas here? How was the swatch option settings in the very old release of Illustrator? Thanks. I the left screenshot how i see the swatch, in the right how i change the color mode to "Book Color.

Thanks Ton. I would prefer to have these design items as separete files (easy to check in Illustrators save options "Save each artboard to a separate file"). And use Bridge to drag and drop them as linked files onto your doll design file. It's very hard to see that a Illustrator file con not be build with confort using pieces that are in external .ai file Using separate file is a way but not easy when you have 250 small pieces for 45 product dolls. The result is that i have 45 .AI file with 250 artboard for each one (every artboard is a piece). It's more easy to have a 1 file with 250 artboard that 250 separate files. So i use this 45 file to take pieces in artboard and load in separate final design file. What do you think about this workflow? How can i do better? PS: Symbol library could be a solution because pieces are very simple small design but have too many limits.

Thanks to all for the help. My file are all RGB OR Greyscale. The questions are: 1) 16 colors is 4 bit? 2) What is the difference Color Model: RGB vs Bitmap?

Really thanks Ton. What do you think about this workflow? Do you understand/like it? Are there better solution with Illustrator CS6? Only to understand: Creative Cloud Libraries could be a solution for you? Thanks.

Hi Monika. I have only Illustrator CS6 (and InDesign CS6). No Photoshop, sorry. So i need to do only in Illustrator. What is the difference RGB and Bitmap Color model? Remember that the color model of Bitmap is 16 colors in the color table, confirm? Thanks.

Hi again. Can place a linked artboard inside another artboard ai file? In other words can i link an .ai file to another file ai? The problem is that i need to build a small workflow with 2 files: 1- in this file i build/design/assemble some final design dolls 2- in this file i have many design pieces (clothes, shoes, hairs, etc...) for every artboard that i take and place in the file 1. The problem is that these pieces change often i need that works as images dynamically as image in InDesign. How to do is? My problem is that i use Illustrator CS6 and do not have library. The only solution could be use the symbol? Thanks. Mirta
