Hm, it appears to be an inconsistent issue, as re-opening it to check if High Quality Playback was selected (it wasn't, must've not re-enabled upon Windows reinstall a while back or something) now with it checked or unchecked paused and play are matching. But this isn't the first - and won't be the last time it happens. For now my workaround is just to transcode to Cineform and match up with the audio in a nested sequence. The Cineform encode matches the Playback levels. Yeah, these are just the levels out of camera, will be pulling them back - just needed to have an accurate representation of what I was looking at to be able to do so

So I have a really weird issue with some ProRes files in Premiere Pro CC 2019 (latest update according to CC Desktop): The files show different video levels or black levels or available range when paused vs playing back. When paused, it looks washed out, when playing back it looks as it should. This has happened with multiple files now and I'm not sure what to do about it. Makes grading difficult since I don't know whether the paused or playback copy is what Premiere is interpreting for final product and I'd have to grade while playing, likely. I just accidentally deleted this thread... Recent Reinstall of Windows. As of one of the LR Classic or Photoshop updates this year, "Edit in Photoshop" link still works, but I can't do anything to the file. Can't make new layer from background, can't duplicate it, can't use any of the menus or do anything at all. It lets me unlock the layer, but even then, nothing happens. This worked early in the year and just... stopped. Per a friend's recommendation, I tried changing the "Edit in" settings to 8-bit/PSD instead of 32/TIFF and setting it to sRGB, but no dice. Just doesn't let me do any editing in Photoshop. Any ideas? Win10 x64, latest public updates to both apps.

Screenshot example of it being weird. The markers shown in the markers panel don't exist... anywhere. Not in a clip, not in a sequence and definitely not in the selected/active sequences. Meanwhile the ACTUAL markers are not shown at all. And can almost 100% guarantee all of the markers I make now in that timeline will either vanish in 30 minutes while editing or next time I open the project they will be gone. Fun stuff. EDIT: I finally caught it on video! Pay close attention to the Program Monitor (top-right) versus the timeline. You can see the exact moment ALL of my existing markers get wiped from the save file (i.e. Program Monitor) and the new marker pops onto the Program Monitor but not the timeline. Also the Markers Panel itself is still showing a bunch of nonsense markers that have literally never existed in this project - CAUGHT ON VIDEO: Markers getting wiped in Premiere - YouTube

Thus far the "workaround" of not opening in source monitor doesn't apply to me since I wouldn't do that in the first place. But yes I don't really use clip markers much so I have posted in there and will follow. It is my understanding Adobe is currently on a summer break of some sort so I'm just awaiting the 12.1.2 update 😕

Also hoping we get an update soon. I have never opened a sequence in source monitor and my issue still falls in line with the rest otherwise. The "disappearing" seems to happen mid-edit. In two instances now, they disappeared while the timeline was open, but usually they don't "disappear" until I re-open the project. Check auto-saves and they've been gone for over an hour's worth of work and just visually lying to me, basically. I've also had an issue where making new markers don't appear on the timeline at all - only program monitor - until I make "enough" (arbitrary amount) and suddenly they all appear on the proper timeline. And the Markers panel itself has not shown any markers from a sequence in a long time. Select sequence on timeline, select it in bin, directly select a marker itself, it does not show anything. I've tried reinstalling, deleting cache, tearing my hair out.

5 months later and this issue is wreaking havoc on my edits. Get a project fully markered up, edit some more, save, open hours later and POOF. I can make new ones but they're all magically gone. Same system, same editor, no transferring, nothing offline. I had a bunch of markers disappear mid edit once. Just deleted a single clip and they vanished. (These are timeline markers.) Had many projects where new markers would only show in program monitor and not on the timeline at all. What the heck is going on?! -- Checked auto-saves. Auto-saves 45 minutes older than my most recent edit still have some markers, but the 10 or so ones since that point just... don't. They're just gone. Reinstalling and deleting cache (something I do monthly anyway) but I don't expect it to help and the markers in my current project are just gone. Oh, and the actual markers panel where you can see a list of them hasn't worked in probably a couple months.

Hrm, I don't currently have anything connected via Bluetooth. We "fixed" the issue via 1 on 1 support by making a new admin account and opening Premiere on it - somehow let it open on my account. This was suggested earlier in the thread and didn't work, I'm not sure why it "works" now. I've had to do it a couple times now. But the "Color" workspace still won't load. My custom ones and others seem to, but it's still having issues pulling up some panels. /shrug Edit: Okay "Color" works fine once I reset it.

Update: I've now successfully edited and rendered a video! 36 threads render things very quickly. I've had success (last night) opening existing projects, then making a new one. Closing the old one and editing the new. Today? Still freezes when I try to open or make a new project. I'm less convinced this is a RAM issue now - but I'm not going to THINK about touching RAM until we can figure this out, just to eliminate variables. But yes, both Projects I was working on (and opening/closing just fine) last night are now freezing when I try to open. And After Effects is back to crashing at the splash screen. As far as I can think, nothing has changed. Simply a fresh boot up this morning. I will add that whenever it was loading projects, it will still freeze in the same spot for a second, and then kick in the panels and project and etc. Not sure what it's getting caught on..

After Effects appears to be launching, too. But making a new project w/o this specific one open it's freezing again. This may have been misleading me the entire time I was testing RAM configs. Sometimes the existing project truly did not open, but I didn't always test it. Figured making a new one was a better test. I can make a new project while one is open and edit while both are open, but...

@Mitch I'm able to (sometimes) open an existing project, however creating a new one still leads to the same crash. It would appear missing effects (I've yet to install plugins) is what allows existing project to be opened. So it's not RAM? An hour wasted.

Finally back up and working with 2 sticks again. What doesn't add up to me is the inconsistency once I go past 1 stick. Even for the 2 matching, compatible sticks, I have to do a song and dance of rebooting and shuffling them around before Premiere works. Which almost makes me thing it's a luck of the draw at reboot instead. Premiere is open and working now w/ 2 sticks. I'm going to reboot -- not touching the RAM -- and see if it stops working again. If so, the past hour was a waste and the issue is slightly different.

Apologies for the delay. I was attempting to do some extensive RAM layout testing to see which config worked for me, but my results are completely inconsistent. Put just 1 stick of RAM in - Premiere works. Put other matching stick of RAM in - Premiere works. Add a third, non-matching stick in - Premiere stops working. Add fourth stick, matching stick 3 to balance it - Still not working. Pull out both non-matching sticks and just leave the original pair - Premiere still doesn't work. Also the log folder is completely empty. YAY LOGS. I'm going to see if I can build back up to the first 2 that were working again just so I can get some work done, but this is obviously a fraction of the RAM I had wanted/etc. Less than a typical project of mine consumes.

Yes. I changed 2 settings. I've now changed them back and have my RAM and etc. exactly how it was 10 minutes ago when I was able to open existing projects, make new ones, everything. AE loaded instantly. And now I'm back to crash fest.

I'm really on a ledge here. I reinstalled Windows. Started slow, w/ just essential drivers and Adobe first. Working good. Went step by step reinstalling my apps and etc. and Premiere/AE working along the way. I change my RAM speed back to 3000 (that's what the RAM is rated for, not overclocking or anything) and it starts crashing again. Set RAM back to Auto (2100mhz) and even remove some of it, play w/ positioning and etc. and it's still crashing. Is it even possible for it to get that broken by just not liking the config like that? Do I have to completely reinstall everything AGAIN?!

Hahaha deleting the CEP exe just results in Premiere launching with the old CS6 style menus. Which I find hilarious for some reason. Uninstalled and reinstalled the 2015 VC Runtimes and deleted any third party CEP extensions. Still no luck. ----- BUT I've been given new hope: I installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 again on a different boot drive and ONLY installed Premiere, AE, AME, and my chipset/GPU drivers and both AE and Premiere seem to be working fine. So I'm going to go disable those extensions from auto-downloading in my CC account and just start over with the install on this boot drive. Wipe and start over. Ideally there's no reason it won't work? I can't imagine what broke so severely in this install, but this gives me hope that my nightmare is over. Will post once I'm back up (~30 minutes ish).

Wellllp. My last Hail Mary idea was to downgrade the BIOS since I upgraded it before reinstalling Windows. Just in case that somehow broke things. This did not resolve my issue. In a few I will resume installing a new copy of Windows 10 on a separate SSD and testing to see if this installation somehow got messed up so much. Otherwise I am 100% and completely out of ideas.

I'd be somewhat inclined to believe you, as I've never gotten the activation step to show up. Even as I just installed it on another machine, there's still a secondary activation step beyond being signed into the CC Desktop app. I'm like 99% sure I hit yes on that dialog, though. Also with network cable unplugged and with firewall/Malwarebytes disabled same results happen. Crashes in the same spot, waiting on CEP HTML Engine thing. -- I may have to roll back my BIOS. Gigabyte released a CPU Microcode update this month (likely for Meltdown) that I installed prior to Windows on this rebuild and is the only last factor I can think of that would've changed between this install of Windows and when it was working, other than the Fall Creators Update.
