I'm trying to use the Neural Filter (Restore Photo) on my M2 Max Macbook Pro, and it's extremely slow, taking 3-5 mins to render a single image. I tried exactly the same image on a friend's Windows PC (14900K + 4090) and it only took about 10-15 secs for the same image to render with the Neural Restore filter. I know the 4090 is obviously much faster, but I can't imagine the MBP is 10x slower. Is there something wrong with the software? Maybe it's not using the GPU somehow? I already checked the settings, that GPU acceleration is enabled. I tried both the PS Beta, PS 2025 and PS 2024 versions.

Curious if you have any personal experience with the FF-680W? At first, I thought it was crazy to get yet another scanner when my Epson V700 is working perfectly. But I'm so incensed by this issue I'm thinking of just getting the 680W. But I heard it has bad IQ and much more concerningly, damages your photos.

I know this question has been asked before. But I can't find a satisfactory solution to cropping individual photos from a scanned image (which usually consists of 2-4 prints). I know the easiest way is to automate this with photoshop's crop & straighten function. But its accuracy leaves a lot to be desired (i.e. sometimes crops a bit too much, other times leaves a tiny white border. And it is almost uniformly bad at leveling slightly askew photos). I also tried a bunch of standalone software, such as scan tailor and paper scan, but they were worse than Photoshop in my opinion. I saw some of the old scripts @Stephen Marsh created, but when I run them on my Applee Silicon Mac, they just crash. Here's an example of what my original scanned file looks like. When I save my edited images in photoshop (with 10+ adjustment layers, but only 1 image layer), I get an error saying I can’t save it in TIFF because it’s larger than 4GB. However, if I go to “Save As...” and in the options for “Layer Compression” choose ZIP instead of RLE, I can save the TIFF file at about 900MB. So my question is: how can I make Photoshop default to choosing ZIP for “Layer Compression”? I know “Image Compression” already defaults to ZIP.

I noticed that there's a few different ways to sharpen an image The 1st is to sharpen the raw file directly in either ACR or Lightroom. And then, once you've brought it into Photoshop, there's 3 additional ways: (1) unsharp mask, (2) sharpen, and (3) smart sharpen What are the differences between these options? Is sharpening in raw preferable? I shoot landscapes mostly.

The thing is, I wasn't using a focus stacking software like PS's blend mode. Instead, I just aligned the images in PS. Then I blended them manually using masks. I included the 3rd image to show the trouble. The fuzziness of the bottom image cannot be completely "covered" by the clear and in-focus image of the top part. The part of the "fuzzy" image that isn't covered by in-focus image is what creates the halo in the combined image.

I have a shot with some columns very close (50cm away?) and sky background at infinity focus. I have a two-shot focus stack, one for the columns and one for the infinity-focused sky. The problem is, the transition between the two is rather harsh. And the unfocused areas of one bleeds into the other. Is there any way I can fix this? Or should I have shot it differently? I'm not sure how shooting more shots in the focus stack would help, since there's nothing to focus on in between the sky and the columns. View: original size No EXIF data. I currently used a 2016 Macbook Pro. The most limiting factor is of course the 16GB of ram. But a faster processor would be appreciated as well. In terms of benchmark, the 7700k iMac and the 10 core Xeon iMac Pro are about the same in the single core benchmark, although the iMac Pro is faster by about 90% in multicore ones. So what I really am curious to know is to what extent Photoshop can take advantage of the 6 extra cores of the iMac Pro? If it can only use 3-4 cores effectively, then the regular iMac seems to be the best choice.

I’m looking for the best computer for photoshop. I normally have 20+ layers in photoshop, along with 5 or so raw files opened as smart objects, in order to do exposure blending in photoshop. I’ve been waiting a while for the new iMac pro, but their single core performance is lower than that of the 7700k iMac 5k. I’ll get 64gb of ram regardless of which system I get, and I don’t do video editing at all. So which one would be better for my uses?

I know you can off set the time of a batch of photos by a certain number of hours (+8hrs). But I need to do this for years (e.g. keep the time and date, but change the year from 2015 to 2017). I need to do this for a few thousand photos. Is there any way I can automate it?

I just tried Lightroom on a PC with Core i7 7700k cpu along with 1080 TI GPU. It's not too much different than my Macbook Pro with the i7-6920HQ (2.9 GHz, turbo to 3.8 GHz), and it's about the same. I was hoping for much more performance gain. I tried disabling GPU acceleration, but that only helps marginally. Is the PC supposed to be a lot faster than my Macbook Pro?

I’ve been trying some things, and here’s what I’ve found: (1) If I disable GPU acceleration, the Develop Module displays the images fine. However, the previews in Library Module don’t update to reflect this (even after quitting Lr and restarting). (2) I tried deleting the Lightroom previews associated with my library but still keeping the catalog. Then I reopened Lightroom to find a number of my images being displayed as corrupted. I try opening these files in Photoshop, and they show the same patterns of corrupt (black vertical stripes, white/magenta bottoms, etc). However, if I copy/move these images to another folder, they appear fine. In addition, if I open these files (they’re on an NAS) in Photoshop on another computer, they appear fine as well. Finally, I restore the catalog previews. Everything goes back to as it was before. Some of the “corrupted” images go back to normal while some normal images become “corrupted”. (3) I tried completely uninstalling then reinstalling Lightroom, Photoshop, and everything else Adobe. This worked… for about a day. Then everything went back to how it was. (4) I should mention that every time I’m able to get an image back to normal again (for example by reinstalling Lightroom) the next time “corruption” occurs, it’s usually with another image. The process seems random. (5) I ran Disk Utility checks on my disk. Everything appears fine. Also ran hardware diagnostic (pressing “D” during startup) and everything was fine as well. I’m running 10.12.4 on a 2016 (touchbar) MacBook Pro.

I've done some more experimentation, and it's probably not something within ACR, but definitely within Adobe, that's causing the problem. I deleted everything related to Adobe on my computer, and reinstalled everything. The photos which previously appeared corrupt are not rendered just fine. However, new photos are being shown as corrupted. One of these newly corrupted photos is a TIFF, which means it didn't go through ACR. So deleting all the Adobe stuff solved some problems.... and created new ones.

I'm interested in getting a PC for editing photos, especially in Lightroom. The lag when editing photos in Lr develops module on my MBP is quite bad since most of my photos are relatively large (50mpx). Im looking at benchmarks at which CPUs would be specifically fastest for Lr, and I'm getting some conflicting signals. One site has doe a head on Core i7 7700k vs 5960X test. Just tried that. Unfortunately, it doesnt seem to help. Even restarted after disabling GPU acceleration. Same result. GPU acceleration only affects Lightroom right? My problems seems to be with both Ps and Lightroom, which leads me to assume it's a more fundamental problem with ACR.

Ive been noticing Lightroom shows a lot of my edited photos as seemingly corrupt. Weird color bands appear on the picture. I open the same image in Photoshop (ACR) and the same corruption appears. I noticed however that if I just move the image to a different folder and open it again in Photoshop, the corruption disappears. This leads me to conclude that somehow the ACR cache for this image was corrupted, and every time I open it in either Lr or Ps, it's going back to the same corrupted cache. When i move it to a different folder, it's having to generate a new cache for that image, and everything's fine. 1 - is my theory right? 2 - if I am right, how I can solve this? I already tried purging the ACR cache in Lightroom.

I found a script that allows to crop and straighten scanned photos. However, there are 2 changes I want to make: (1) Instead of being saved as jpegs, I want to resulting files to be saved as tiff (2) Right now, it only looks at one level in a folder. I want it to dig into all subfolders as well. Is that possible?
