I created a new Text Variable, wihtout any documents open. I can see it , if I go to Text Variables / Define. But if I open a document and choose Text Variable / Insert - it does not show. How do I get it to be accessible from the Insert menu?

I am running version 25.4.1 and an constantly getting the PARM error when trying to edit embedded images. I cannot upgrade to latest version as that requires a software update that isn't compatible with my hardware and accounting software. So I need to downgrade to an earlier version than 25.4.1, in order to fix this bug. HOWEVER.... My Creative Cloud console only allows me to see 26.0.1 and my current (25.4.1) as options for install/uninstall. How do I get access to install an earlier version?

My Adobe products are all up to date. if I log my Adobe account and go to Adobe Fonts and activate some fonts, I cannot see/select/access those fonts from InDesign or Illustrator. I've tried restarting the apps after font activation but that does not help. I've also double checked and yes I'm definitely using the one/same Adobe login for Fonts and Apps. Any ideas?

I have a pattern that has come from a 'grungey' logo that had many nodes and distressed 'dirt' on it. Since making the pattern and simplifying the paths I am left with thousands of tiny objects (artefacts of old 'dirt' section that have been eaten away at by the Path / Simplify process). is there any easy way for me to make Illustrator find and remove all these tiny items. They are riddled throughout objects that I still need to keep, of which are all identical colours, on the same layer.

I don't have the convert fonts to outlines option in my Prepress, Color and Transparency options in my Acrobat / Preflight. Hi Ton, I don't think you've read my comments carefully. What you've supplied back to me there is a live Illustrator file with Gradient masks in it. I already have that. The problem is what happens when you either Open or Paste that file into Photoshop. If you open or paste that very file that you gave me, into Photoshop, then this happens (I was using your file to produce this screenshot): as yo ucan see from the above screenshot, your file does the same thing when opened into Photoshop. This is the issue I am trying to avoid. ANd again, to reiterate - I know I can rasterize this down inside Illustrator - BUT the quality of Raster (even at extermely high resolution settings) is still sub-par when compared to the clarity that Photoshop can produce.

Oh I already replied about that before, I tried it as C 100, M 100, Y 100 K 100 for the Black, but it didn't help. Same result - once Opened or Pasted into Photoshop the Gradient masks stop working

and just to reiterate: yes when I Rasterize it inside Illustrator - the gradient masks are retained and do still fade out like they should.... BUT even at High Resolutions, the quality of Rasterize in Illustrator is inferior to Photoshop. So I need to Open or Paste this content into Photoshop to ensure clearer resolution but currently I can't do that due to Photoshop dropping off the gradient masks.

p.s. out of curiosity I just made the Black in my gradient 100% of all C,M,Y,K instead of just K. But the same result occured - the mask stops working/displays whole pattern when pasted into Photoshop.

they are separate items. so only needs to gradient black/to/white in order to fade out. For example this footer pattern: is solid at the bottom (bleeds off the bottom of DL), and fades out at top into the red background. Unfortunately that did not work for me. here's a screenshot of the layered illustrator file: I've selected everything and grouped it, now all together on 1 layer: I select the group and copy it, then paste it into photoshop. I choose Smart object; and once pasted the top and bottom gradient masks have dropped off, see how in this screenshot the footer and header background watermarks are no longer fading away but instead are all visible and running into each other:

No I don't flatten it in Illustrator, I open the AI directly in photoshop. This works well in all other situations until I've hit this issue. When I flatten the gradient masks inside Illustrator, even at extremely high resolution levels, there is a noticable lack of raster quality when compared to opening the file into Photoshop. Which is why flattening it inside Illustrator is not an option.

I have some patterns in an Illustrator file that are filled with a colour gradient, they are then masked with a white to black gradient box to allow them to fade into the background. As a supplier to a Government office I have no control over what print company they use. Some have very unreliable Rips/raster processors so I have to flatten fx when supplying print files. when I open this print file into Photoshop in order to save it as a flattened raster image - all the items that have gradent masks applied to them start to appear in full (no mask). If I try and rasterise the items directly in Illustrator - the raster appearance lower in quality - even with high resolution settings and art optimised; Therefore I have to use Photoshop - but how do I get photoshop to acknowledge the gradient masks and not strip them out?

I have a DL flyer that needs to be scaled to Aframe size. The Header and footer contain grouped items that have Gradient Feather applied to them. if my InDesign Preferences are set to: Object Editing / When Scaling / Apply to Content : Both options (Include Stroke weight / Include Effects) ticked on; then the Gradient feather does not scale up. However if I change preferences to Object Editing / Adjust Scaling Percentages; then the Gradient feather DOES scale up and preserves correct appearance BUT this is not suitable as then all my font sizes are listed as before/after (which is annoying as the 'after'/correct details are often obscured by length of input window. Any ideas why Gradient Feather Effects aren't scaling up; even though the Preferences are marked to do so?

Now THIS is the reply I have been looking for! This SOLVED the problem for me. Thank you so much! And yes as other people have stated in an ideal world this would not be needed but when you're contracted by a Government department to create artwork you have no control over who the printer, and trust me in regional areas most printers can't be trusted with live fonts!

What other method other than Blend can I use to have a keyline/stroke around an object that appears to grow out in one direction (i.e. the stroked colour pushes forther /thicker out at lower left than it does at top right)? I'm not aware of any other method in Illustrator that would achieve the appearance I have shown in the screenshot I posted earlier? I realise that intermediate steps are needed in a blend, but what I am saying is - the steps that expand into nodes are too many in relation to the simplicity of the object. Or at least, if Illustator has no way of producing less nodes, then why doesn't it's own app have enough power to handle it when they're used?
