Okay, I have to be picky to understand the question. Are you talking about Lightroom (Lr icon) or Lightroom Classic (LrC icon)? What version NUMBER? (We need to know the version NUMBER and not words like "latest" or "up-to-date")

Translation to English I am not an expert on these issues, but I have the feeling that if it were a calibration problem, the two modules would have the same defect. Incorrect. Indeed there was no profile associated with my instructor. There should be a profile associated with your monitor. I would suggest going through the steps again, and if there really is no monitor profile, then click the Add button and the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile

They function in Fast Raw Viewer because it is working with the (much smaller) embedded previews in the file, which can be uncorrupted while the actual image itself is corrupted. In this case, the best you can do is try to save the (much smaller) emdedded preview. Or as I said, use a backup of the file.

This is not a preset. There is no such thing as a preset that applies when you go from Library to Develop. The problem is very likely a corrupted monitor profile. Please try these instructions to see if the problem goes away: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-change-my-monitor-profile-to-check-whether-its-corrupted/

1. LrC catalogs cannot help you restore backups of your photos. This is an action that has to be done in your operating system. 2. If you restore backups to the original locations, or if you connect the LrC catalog to the new location of the backups, then LrC recognizes that the photo is there and all edits and user-provided metadata is applied. Having these files in a folder which is a cloud backup (such as OneDrive or DropBox), you make the likelihood of corrupted files much higher, and so you should not use cloud backups like OneDrive or DropBox with your Lightroom Classic photos or Lightroom Classic catalog.

I'm guessing you don't have smart previews for this photo. Can you show us the entire Library Module screen with this photo selected, so we can see the Grid with the photo selected, and the Histogram and right side panel? Use the "Insert Photos" icon to include your screen capture in your reply; do NOT attach files.

I cannot test it because I am not having the problem. Resetting preferences is a well-known solution for user-interface problems, which is stated in the first paragraph of the document I referenced. Best advice is method 3, where you first rename or move the existing preference file.

It is not normal behavior for options to be turned off and then it is turned on when you restart LrC. I would reset your preference file.

Non I my images show as "missing" This sentence does not have an obvious meaning to me. Are there typos? Are there missing words? What does it mean? My actual images IN lightroom are well organized using collections and keywords etc... If that is the case, I wouldn't bother re-arranging the photos into a different folder structure, that is a nightmare. You can find the photos you want via collections and keywords, and LrC knows what folder they are stored in so that you don't have to know what folder the photos are stored in.

@roelv55517707 Something is odd here. If you are running LrC 14.2, you should have a Lightroom Catalog v14 (unless you renamed it). The catalog named Lightroom Catalog-v13-3 cannot run in LrC 14.2 (unless you renamed it).

Translation to English I have an LR Classic catalog with about 50000 pictures. Suddenly, all the painstakingly compiled collections are set to zero. What does "set to zero" mean? What do you see when you look at Lightroom Classic that indicates "zero"? What happens if you click on the collection name, do you see photos? Do you not see photos? Did you upgrade your catalog to a new version in the last few days before this happened? Did you create a new catalog recently? If I export the collection as a catalog and import it into the current catalog, it imports a lot of images that are already included. Of course, they have changed their place, but I might have to solve that manually via "Find missing files". 1. How can I prevent duplicates I have turned on "Do not import possible duplicates". 2. Will the collection be restored or will I receive the old images as new ones chaotically distributed across the catalog? 3. How can it happen that the collections are set to zero images? Before we go ahead and propose solutions, I think it is best to try to figure out what happened, and so the answers to my questions above should help.

Try unchecking "Show New Photos Only" in the import dialog. By @Astonished_motivation5639 If you mean unchecking "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates", this is the worst "solution" because it is not a solution ... it makes the problem worse. Now you have two copies of a photo in your catalog, with (probably) different edits and different user-provided metadata. Then some day in the future you will come across one of the photos and be upset that this isn't the edit you remembered, or that this doesn't have the metadata you think you created. Not good. Don't uncheck "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates".

Yes, there are plenty of tutorials from 2024 and 2025. This is one of LrC's great strengths, there are humongous amount of tutorials available on YouTube and on Adobe.com and elsewhere. You have already been given a link to those on Julianne Kost's videos. Windows 11 is irrelevant, the Lightroom Classic user interface is the same on all operating systems. @Dick_Davis Please provide the version NUMBER of your installed LrC.

This happens becuase the photos you want to synchronize are already in the catalog. So no need to synchronize. You can find the photos in your catalog via following ALL 4 of these steps, in order: In LrC, click on All Photographs (left side of the Library module) Turn off filters (ctrl-L once or twice) Expand all stacks (Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks) Use the filter bar to search for one of the photos by file name.

When you run out of space for your original photo files on one external drive, put the new photo files on a second external drive, all in the same catalog. Having your original photos onto two drives does not require a new catalog, they can all be in the same catalog. This to me is the best solution; starting a new catalog or splitting the existing catalog is the worst solution.

The main reason is that, slowly but surely, I'm running out of internal harddrive space and cannot keep my entire photos on the internal drive of my laptop. So I have to start looking into options of how to put the whole thing on a bigger external drive, whilst still being able to work on current projects, also when I'm away and don't have that external drive with me. Ok, so the general solution is to move the photos to an external drive, as we discussed. Photos that you need to have on the internal drive for when the external drive is not connected don't get moved. One LrC catalog references all of the photos on both drives. Moving photos back and forth is not part of the solution ... unless you decide at some point in the future you need that photo on the external drive to be on the internal drive, in which case you have no choice but to move it back to the internal drive.

Would a copy of a small collection of photos, or a new catalogue from that small collection (e.g. my top 10 landscape images) to my internal drive be a better way to have those always with me? If you want a small number of images with you even when your external drive in not plugged in, just don't move them to the external drive. That way, you don't have to move them to the external drive and then move them back to the internal drive. Going back to your first message, in which you said: First time scenario for me. I'm looking for suggestions to how I can safely move my entire photos/catalogue and collections to an external SSD, however, still being able to work on some of them (work in progress projects), when the external SSD is not connected. Why? What is the reason you want to do all of this work? Going back to your first message, you said: Smart Previews seem like a great idea for basic things but won't give me enough options for what I need to do (I'll also have large PS documents to edit). Explain this further ... why are Smart Previews not a good option?

I've already searched the forum and, it seems, that there are several options to move all my photos from the laptop's internal harddrive to an external SSD: either by copying, deleting source files and updating folder locations, or by 'Exporting this folder as collection...'. Or is there another better way? Option 2 here is the way to go. Once you do that (and confirm that it works properly) you can also move the catalog to the external HD using your operating system if you want. However, unless you have a very good reason for putting the catalog on an external HD, don't move it, leave it on the internal drive. Everything works fine with photos on external HD and catalog on internal HD. What I'm still not sure about, would either option keep the collections I created on my internal drive work once it's either reconnected to the new location or exported as new catalogues? Collections are in the catalog file, they are not separate entities on one of you hard disks. So moving the photos and catalog as described above moves the c ollections as well. DO NOT export the collections as catalogs, this is unnecessary and doesn't help. Would it then be the best way, to simple move those images into an editing folder on the internal laptop drive from within LRC NO, don't design workflows that require photos to be moved here to there and back. The speed difference is so trivial that you will never notice a speed difference, there is no benefit to do this. Decide what disk you want the photos on, and thenb leave the photos where they are, and edit them where they are. The speed benefit of editing from the internal drive is so trivial you will never notice.

Are you looking at Lightroom Classic tutorials and comparing them the Lightroom (not-Classic)? Or the other way around? So what is different in these 2017 tutorials? Some things have changed in LrC since 2017, more up-to-date tutorials about Lightroom Classic would be useful (and there are plenty of more recent tutorials).
