Thanks for this. I would like to find a way to fix this within LR. But the number of files now incorrectly spread accross 8 years of folders in my file structure would make itvery tedious to move them one by one. If I understand your suggestion to sort by Capture Date, I'd have to look at every folder for files that dont belong there. Ugghh. Because I have done nothing with these images since import and would not lose any work, I am considering the export & re-import to fix the organization.

What I meant was that the photos were on a large USB derive when I imported them. I no longer have access to this drive. Thats relevant because I cannot just reimport them. They were copied during import into my local file structure. I used the Organize by Date feature to place them into folders structured by date. The problem is, most of them are organized by the wrong date. Because they were placed in collections upon import, I can easily separate them. I'm considering exporting them and reimporting to see they organaize properly this time. I have experimented with this with a small batch and they organized as expected.

When I import into LR I organize the files by date at the destination. This has always worked well for me, except for 2 recent imports. I cannot make sense of how these images were organized at the destination for these two. I could reorganize manually in the folders panel, but these imports were thousands of files. Since I have done nothing with these files in LR since import, I'm thinking the best solutuion would be to reimport & then remove the files from the 1st import. I no longer have access to the media with the original files, so I would export a copy from LR & reimport. Does this work if I export as original with all metadata? I know this is usually a bad idea. But do I have any good alternative?

Thanks for trying to clear this up for me. Let me see if I understand. If I write IPTC/EXIF metadata and Develop metadata to my pairs (which is LR's only option), this gets written to the headers (JPEG) and xmp (RAW). This metadata is visible to other apps, but they are not likely to understand LR's Develop data, rendering the image without any adjustments. When you say you see no reason to do what I was hoping for, Is this why? Because you can move/import/view the original file in other apps & see the ITPC & EXIF but not the Develop edits even though they were "written"? Thanks again.

Thanks. So, if I write metadata to the file for any image I have altered in develop, the adjustments are baked in to JPEGs and written to the xmps? And if those files are used by other apps, there is no way to revert to the original? I'm really struggling to understand how I keep my original files unaltered by Develop. For me, thats the meaning of "non-destructive" editing.

I've been trying to get a grip on what metadata LR writes to files & when it does it. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I work with RAW/JPEG pairs. What I would like to do is write metadata (ITPC and EXIF) to my original files (xmp for the RAW) and not write adjustments made in Develop. It makes sense to me to have copyright, keywording, etc be part of the permanent file. If I want a file with the adjustments I can export. Does LR allow me to split metadata and adjustments when writing to the file? What would be my best steps? Thanks for any guidance

I understand. I did use the uninstaller. I also ran the uninstall option in CC Cleaner. I still have some of the apps installed. I do not have the license information needed to reinstall the entire CS3. It was a former employers license. I now have my own CC subscription. Is there a brute force method to get these apps safely off my machine without affecting my CC installation? Thanks.

Thanks. I know you are trying to help and I appreciate it. I have installers for a the apps that are installed. I have uninstaller for a couple of them. I have run them and they did not work. Adobe seems to feel that CC Cleaner is my solution.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I no longer have the media to install CS3. I have been through all the Adobe suggestions for removing stubborn CS3 installations. They all come back to using CC Cleaner since I am a CC subscriber. Any suggestions for getting CC Cleaner to work?

I am trying to uninstall all CS3 apps and related files. I ran the uninstaller, but the apps remain. I installed CC Cleaner and selected the CS3 apps to remove. CC Cleaner hangs with a spinning beachball and Activity Monitor says its "Not Responding". Any suggestions how I can get this tool to run? Thanks.
