I am trying to take a layered PSD file, and turn it into a multi-page PDF, with each of those layers beoming its own page.    I have been successful in exporting into - seperate PDF pages - and even this is alright, becuase it is then pretty easy for me to gather those up and - Combine Pages into PDF, etc.   However the problem here - is that the PDF's that are being exported ( the individual pages ) are huge. They are coming in at like 4 or 5 Mb., and I don;t seem to have any options for controlling size / quality, etc.    Therefore - How do I keep layer pages that are only like 1800 x 1200 pixels ( which should in theory be happy at 500Kb, etc - from becoming these giant files, or better still - how do I simply export them into the single PDF I will eventually need ?    ( when I typically will save something from Photoshop to a PDF, I get all manner of options - Layers, save for Web quailty, compression, etc. when I do this  FILE - SCRIPTS - EXPORT LAYERS TO FILES, it works well - fast etc., but again,   individual files are then too big to be of use )    Thanks for any help or guidance,   Sterne ... In Photoshop ( PS6 ),  What I do is open a raw ( CR2 ) make various adjustments, etc., then save it off as a tif. Then I take the tif, scale it down, and save it as a jpeg for web use, etc.  Thus, each time I go to save a file - I must first change the file type, as I am bouncing back an forth between tifs and jpegs and as Photoshop reverts to the last saved file type - I must always go in and select the other.  I was just wondering - if there was any way ( I cannot find one through preferences ) of having it default to save as jpeg - that way at least I would only have to change the file type half the time when I wanted iit to save as a tif.   May seem a small thing - but when you have done it 20,000 times.... Thanks for any wizardry or short cuts to help with this processing.  I know about batch processing but I prefer to do this one by one as I go for the naming protocol is also different.    Thanks,   Sterne ... Anyone know of this one - Photoshop CS6 says to one Canon CR2 file out of about 600 taken that day Could Not Complete Your Request Because the File Format Module Cannot Parse the File. The corresponding jpeg to that file can be opened, the CR2 can be opened in other programs Viewers - Windows picture viewer, Irfanview, etc. It can even be renamed there as a TIF and that will open in Photoshop, but then of course one doesn't have access to the RAW file controls. Having recently  (I know, I know ) moved from CS5 TO CS6, and their corresponding versions of acrobat - here is what I notice. If I created a reduced size ( compressed ) PDF in what I guess was Acrobat 9 - and these are always just files of jpeg photos, etc - the biggest difference was that the reduced size version would load slower.  It was pretty consistent in its % of reduction, a 10 Mb file would become 4 Mb, but I was never really able to discern a qualitative difference in the images. What I noticed, as I said, is that they would load slower. If you tried to flip or quick too quickly, the next page would load in chunky blocks. If you went through the pages at a reasonable rate - only advancing every 2 or three seconds say - everything was fine. In Acrobat 10 Pro however ( this running on Windows 10 ), the reduced file size PDF's look like crap. All manner of visible hard lines and clunky lego-style stuff going on.  The pages load quickly though - but who cares cause they look like $#!t. Does anyone know a way or technique to do what the previous version of Acrobat seemed to do, reduce the size by means of compromising the speed at which the pages loaded - without sacrificing the quality of the result ? Or must I transfer everything to my old computer and use Acrobat 9 whenever I have to compress a PDF ? Thanks for any help or guidance, Sterne ... View more

Hello to anyone that can help. What I notice ( and I know I am behind here ) moving to CS6 from CS5 ( years and years ), is all manner of annoyances ( sorry - " improvements" ), within the cropping tool. For instance ; I always had my crop set to 12 x 8 inches - the proportions of my digital camera, and what's more - a reasonable physical size in terms of wrapping ones head around the resolution, etc. I bring alot of stuff in from my scanner as well, which scans in real size, so a frame of 35mm film is really more like 1 x 1 1/2" - not even. Anyway, if I would then crop the scan using my go to size of 12 x 8, it would crop it and reassign the resolution correspondingly. So that now instead of a 1 x 1/2 image with a dpi of 4,000 I would have a 8 x 12 image with a resolution of 478 dpi or some such. This does not seem to be the case in CS6.  Even when I create a preset crop of 8 x 12, use it, it still tells me the image is .977 x 1.422 etc ( at a resolution of 4,000 ) What needs to be done ( because I certainly don't recall setting up anything specific within CS5 - it just had the sense to figure it out, I guess ) to get the result I am looking for. Meaning, whenever I create a custom preset - of whatever proportion ( in inches ) it will automatically resample the cropped picture to its new resolution. Thank you so much, Sterne ... View more

I am recently switched over to CS6 ( I know, I know - come join us on the cloud ), and also to Widows 10. This after - for years - running CS5 on XP. So getting used to both at once. It seems that even though I corrected my default preference for viewing folders ( Details ), within File Explorer ( where in fact all folders open in that view ), Photoshop seems unwilling to accept this change - more or less insisting that each time I open a folder, I am greeted with the huge clunky thumbnails view. If I change manually, and then go one folder up or down the change - you guessed it - more clunky thumbnails. So my question is kind of twofold - is this something I can configure within Photoshop, is there some reason that the program is not taking its marching orders from Windows ?  I would have thought that making the change within Windows preferences would carry over into all the programs - but it does not seem to. As I say, I never had this issue previously using SC5 AND XP, but making both changes at once, I am unable to isolate where the infatuation with Large Icons is coming from. Please let me know if there is some way to configure that I am greeted with the Details view, and if I want to see the thumbnails I will make the change - not the other way around. Is there a way to input your cropping measurements / aspects, and have them stay in place until you change them ? In other words, it seems that every time I open a new picture, or application of Photoshop and I reach for the Crop Tool, it has reset itself to - Unconstrained, then I have to go and select or input what I want ( which is always the same thing ). I would like to type in the measurements I want, and have that stay there as the default until I input something different ? Why does this not seem possible ?
