InDesign AI Assistant just launched in public beta and we are excited for you to try it.

What is AI Assistant in InDesign?

It's your conversational partner built directly within InDesign. It can help you build skills and create production-ready InDesign documents faster. Instead of digging through tutorials, simply ask the AI Assistant "How do I create a table of contents?" and learn as you go. Or save time by having it set up your layout and apply bulk text/image/style edits with a single prompt.

Why it matters

Designers spend a huge amount of time on repetitive tasks and navigating menus, and when you get stuck, context-switching to YouTube or Help pages breaks your flow. AI Assistant changes that:

  • Speed up your workflow: Automate multi-step workflows with natural language prompts.

  • Guidance on demand: Get instant, in-context answers without leaving the app.

  • Stay in your creative flow: Fewer interruptions, more designing.

How to try it

  1. Open the Creative Cloud desktop app and go to Apps > Beta.
  2. Download or update to InDesign (Beta), version 21.4. For more information on how to update the app, click here
  3. Once open, find the AI Assistant panel in the top bar (next to the Share button), in the contextual taskbar, or via File > AI Assistant.

How to share feedback

Your feedback is gold. Here's how to send it our way:

  • Use the 👍🏼 / 👎🏼 inside the AI Assistant panel after any interaction.

  • Fill out the in-app survey when it pops up.

  • You can also share your feedback by filling out the feedback form

Try it and let us know what you think!

Imagine that Adobe could’ve created an AI assistant that could interpret English prompts into GREP commands (or even allow us to type in find/replace commands like “remove all double spaces” or “Find all superscript numbers that are not footnotes” OR SOMETHING THAT PROFESSIONAL DESIGNERS MIGHT ACTUALLY USE? Nope, instead more junk for novices to feel like they can design with intent and, oh Lord, send documents to print. Low Hanging Fruit AI Slop Token Sales.

Oggi 14 agosto 2026 segnalo che da circa una settimana il programma si blocca in continuazione, compare il cerchietto che indica che sta lavorando e si blocca. Abbiamo due licenze che usiamo su due computer e il problema è presente su entrambi i computer.

What are your versions of InDesign and operating system? Also, you may want to post your issue as a separate thread to give it the desired attention. This thread is an announcement of an earlier InDesign update, and your question may get lost amongst an irrelevant conversation.

The Beta version crashed and when I clicked Report nothing happened. I only asked it to duplicate some pages. How do I report the details? Is there an online form? I cant find it.

This looks like a really useful addition. Having AI built directly into InDesign should make common tasks much faster, and I like that you can get help without leaving the app. Looking forward to trying it in the beta.

Rather than more AI how about fixing the contents set up dialogue so it can actually be read and used properly on 4k monitors.

You know, fix stuff that has been a mess for literally years.

@garethirwin1234 can you post a screenshot of the dialog you’re referring to

But to be perfectly frank 80% of the dialogue boxes or what ever they are called are overdue updates by like a decade. Messing around getting bulleted lists is another, such an outdated mess. If adobe really cared about its product would have updated years ago. Rather than ramming AI down our mouths.

Thanks for sharing this! Having an AI assistant built into InDesign should make common tasks faster and help new users learn without leaving the app. I'll give the beta a try and share feedback on how it performs in real projects.

I hate it that AI assistend is built into InDesign and I am considering canceling my subscription. Because you don't ask for permission for it. I want to be in control of whether or not I use AI. Without my permission it is theft.

Nobody asked for it. Everyone hates it.

I agree, I hate it and did not ask for it. Adobe first has to ask permission and has to pay for all my ©images when they want to use it.
