AI Assistant: now available in more languages

We're bringing the AI Assistant to more creators around the world, so you can work in the language you use every day. In addition to English, you can now use the AI Assistant in the following languages:

  • Czech, Danish, German, Spanish, Spanish (Mexico), Finnish, French, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish, and Turkish.

How it works

AI Assistant turns creative intent into action through a conversational workflow:

  1. Describe what you want to accomplish. Use everyday language to tell the assistant what you need, such as applying localized copy across open documents or checking a 100-page catalog for print readiness.

  2. Let the assistant plan and act. It understands your request in the context of your document, determines the right steps, and carries them out, asking for clarification when needed.

  3. Review and refine with confidence. Actions are transparent and reversible through InDesign's native history. Review, adjust, accept, or undo changes at any point.

The AI Assistant is really frustrating so far.

I tried it with an easy task: Starting with a blank document that had 0.5” margins all around on a spread, I asked it to change the inside margins on the A-Parent spread to 1”.  Every single time it changed the left margin on each page to 1”. It doesn’t seem to understand inside and outside margins. I eventually got it to work by asking it to do one page at a time, but it shouldn’t have been that tough.

Using the demo document, I asked it to make a paragraph style using the selected headline text. When it did, it did everything correct except it removed the all caps that had been applied. I had to try again asking it to ‘make a paragraph style while preserving the current font styling’ to get it to preserve the all caps.

I like the promise of the AI Assistant, but getting it to do something simple takes more time than doing it manually. Until I can trust it more, I can’t trust it with an entire document.
