Something for the Weekend – Part 263 – ‘Fixer Upper’

Thanks to all who took part in our previous ‘Jewel in the Crown’ challenge. There were some great creations made from the starter object.

This week, we have something different. Our starter image this week is a guest house building in the grounds of Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire, England. The abbey and grounds, which are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are well worth a visit. These guesthouses were built in the 12th century but fell into ruins in the 16th century when Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries.

The challenge for this week is to use your image skills to restore these guesthouses and make them suitable for habitation again.

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • The challenge is not limited to Photoshop. Any Adobe software can be used.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, click it then, when the image opens in its own window, right click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar depending on your browser).

When posting back your image, please use the reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the bottom of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the reply button next to their image post. Have fun!

Dave.

I love the new format Dave.  With the thread pinned, and with it’s large thumbnail, we should get more people joining in.

This is obviously finished with Ai (Gemini 3.1) but it still took some work, most of it manual, to tease it into a state where I could persuade Gemini to render what I was seeing in my head.  I also used the Firefly model in the middle stages not so much because it uses no credits, but mostly because of its three options.  That made it easier to home in on what I wanted.   BTW I had to tell Maisie that there was a big bag of treats at top because she is scared of heights.

A nice restoration job.  Possibly one of those planning committees that instructed the developer to ‘maintain the original facade’ but forgot to dot every i and cross every t.  By the time they realized they’d been had the rebuild was done, and slightly over half of the planning committee had left to enjoy expensive holidays that they should not have been able to afford.

With the new Adobe Community, I don't seem to receive notifications the way I did in the old one.

Jacob, I tend to use Google rather than the forum’s search bar.  Even without using

    Site: community.adobe.com

to restrict hits to this forum, it seems to be a lot more reliable IME.
