Something for the Weekend – Part 265 – ‘Holy Island’’

Thanks to all who took part in our previous ‘Where there’s smoke’ challenge. There were some great images based on the Victorian pipe.

This week, we go to Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island. It is situated just off the Northumberland coast of England, and reachable by a causeway. This view of the castle, which was built in the 16th century, is from the rugged rocks of the beach. In its day, it must have been a formidable castle to breach. Of course, with the power of image manipulation, you can show us how it might be done.

The “rules”:

  • Use the starter image as at least part of your own image entry.
  • Anything goes, as long as it meets the forum rules on decency, copyright, etc.
  • Anyone, and everyone, is welcome to have a go, whether you are a complete beginner or a Photoshop expert. This is not just for our forum “regulars”.
  • The challenge is not limited to Photoshop. Any Adobe software can be used.
  • There are no prizes apart from the chance to practice, show off your skills, or bring a bit of humor and fun. Don't be shy, join in and have a go!
  • The starter image is made available for you to use in this forum challenge only.

To download the starter image, click it, then, when the image opens in its own window, right-click and choose “Save Image As/Save Target As” (or similar, depending on your browser).

When posting back your image, please use the reply button in this first post and use the 'Insert Photos' icon at the bottom of the reply box. If posting a comment on someone else’s entry, then please use the reply button next to their image post.

Have fun!

Dave.

Holy Island has been relocated to Nepal! I love the Sherpa and his Mountain Hardware jacket. Very nice, @daniellei4510!

Have you seen video of flooding from yesterday?  I’ve never seen anything remotely like it.  Those poor people.

I guess this is part two of my first upload with the Lindisfarne band members looking down on the island.  I thought of Gulliver at that time but I was sure someone else would use it.

I love your dream of eating curry and naan with a glass of beer. So much tastier than the people Maisie is chomping down!

    Very clever, Trevor!

Here’s an AI version. This was mainly a process of iterating prompts. Took quite a bit of time. First was seeing if could use Gemini in Firefly to come up with a good story with few prompts. Each iteration moved further away from what I was after and corresponded less to the reference image. Ended up using doing cross-platform AI work - using chatGPT to help compose the story in text, then back to Firefly - Gemini and more of iterations of prompts to finally get what I was after and minimise all the mistakes. There are still interesting additions in the images I posted that were not in prompts

I found if I asked for a scene with back and forth responses from the characters, I would not be able to get an accurate output.

Image 1 below - fixed in PS in relation to the speech bubbles and text (though not too much).

Image 2 below - improvements were mostly through simplifying the prompts describing the dialogue.

Both images were made with Firefly - Gemini 3.1 (Nano Banana 2)

Haha. It’s amazing what it comes up with, of course we don’t see all the interim generations and corrections you had to make. 😄

I think I’ve been there Dean.  Or it might have been a terrible dream.  Are the lighter patches opal mines?

Could be. Maybe is an aerial map of some place worth exploring.

Guys, in case you don’t know, Nate (@Oh.N8 ) has a similar thread going on the Firefly forum.  It’s called ‘Cross-Product Creative Challenge’ and it is currently up to #15 ‘Product Catalog with a Twist.  It’s a bit more involved than the SFTW challenges, but if you have the time, and need an excuse to get creative, then that’s where you need to be.

Cross-Product Creative Challenge #15: Product Catalog with a Twist | Community

I only found them recently, so have only put up content for #15, but I am learning new stuff and loving it.  I asked Claude to create a troubleshooting guide for my SiFi based project, and stupidly hit return after a single short sentence, and Claude went into action producing five pages of text that Scotty (I can't change the laws of physics!) from Star Trek would have been convinced were real.  If Nate would like to expand on what the Cross Product challenges are about, then that would be very cool.

[EDIT] Some the uploads are going to be tall and thin, and not easy to zoom in on.  If you click to expand, and right click and ‘Open in New Tab, you can use tht tab to go in as far as you like.

A Scotsman would not spend the money such a big flashy flag would cost Euan.  Even if it was the flag of Saint Andrew. ;-)  And where’s the piper?  You could have added some Viking longboats rowing away as fast as they could manage, with speech bubbles saying something like, ‘I am not fighting those mad buggers again. They are beeping crazy!’

Hah!  I love the title James — definitely a multiplier.  I saw the image before seeing your ID, and there was no doubt in my mind who had created it.
