Now in Beta : Better LUT Management with custom LUTs in Premiere Pro

With the latest update, we have fixed the existing LUT indexing issue due to which adding custom LUTs to the technical or creative folders would break the previous relationship between all clips and LUTs selected and users had to manually re-link the clips.

Now, users can add custom LUTs without any impact to existing projects and clips. The custom LUTs added to the ‘Creative’ or ‘Technical’ folders will show up in the LUT dropdown when users launches Premiere and creates a new project. This will not impact LUTs selected in existing clips.

This impacts the following workflows -

  • Adding custom LUTs to a clip will not break existing LUT relationships linked to a clip across the project.
  • Transferring the projects between systems with different sets of custom LUTs will work seamlessly.
  • Team projects on systems with different set of LUTs can communicate any changes to the applied Lumetri LUTs without errors. Previously since these changes were based on LUT index in popup - wrong LUT would be applied between the users unless they manually maintained the same set of LUTs on both systems.
  • Backward compatibility is taken care of - 23.x and older projects of Premiere and After Effects should open correctly with the new version - even with changes to the set of custom LUTs on the system before opening the old project in new application version.
  • Auto-refresh of LUTs in Premiere will continue working as is - these LUTs are not embedded in the project and will require manual relinking when project is moved to another system without the LUT.
  • Forward compatibility in After Effects - saving a new project created in After Effects Beta as 22.x or 23.x will work as intended for any applied Lumetri LUTs.
  • Importing a Premiere sequence with Lumetri LUTs as After Effects composition will work seamlessly. As explained above, this workflow when performed between systems with different set of custom LUTs was broken earlier but gets fixed with this change. Also previously, if a custom LUT was applied in a Premiere sequence, users had to manually relink the LUT when importing it as an After effects composition. We now make use of the embedded LUT data in Premiere to transfer the LUT without manual intervention.

Known Issues
Motion Graphics Support

  • With this change, the Motion Graphics will no longer support adding Lumetri LUT pop-up properties.
  • For existing Motion Graphics using Lumetri LUT pop-ups, the pop-up will be disabled when Motion Graphics are imported in Premiere with default selection applied. In After Effects however, the existing Motion Graphics will continue working as they did (based on popup index).
  • We will be tracking this functionality and enable this in future releases based on user feedback.

After Effects Scripting

  • Any existing scripts trying to set Lumetri LUTs based on their index will be broken and no longer work as intended.

The number of times I had to do this. Great that this is fixed!
