Acrobat.exe allocates memory at ~1 GB/sec and exhausts system memory when closing a PDF (intermittent, Windows 11)

ENVIRONMENT
- Adobe Acrobat Pro (64-bit), Continuous Release, version 2026.002.21931
- Windows 11 Home
- Dell Slim ECS1250, Intel Core Ultra 5 225, Intel integrated graphics (driver 32.0.101.8974 WHQL), 32 GB RAM
- Google Chrome set to open downloaded PDFs automatically in Acrobat

SYMPTOM
When a PDF is closed (either the document or the Acrobat window), Acrobat.exe intermittently begins allocating memory at roughly 1 GB per second. Unless the process is killed within seconds, it consumes all physical memory and the page file. I have observed a single Acrobat.exe process with a commit size of 32.8 GB on one occasion and 59.5 GB on another, with total system commit reaching 90 GB. Windows becomes unresponsive and requires a hard reboot. Nothing visible is happening in Acrobat at the time; the growth begins as the document closes.

STEPS THAT REPRODUCED IT
1. In Chrome, download a PDF. Reproduced with an ordinary 64-page text-based PDF containing small embedded images. It has also occurred after working with scanned PDFs received by email.
2. Chrome opens the downloaded file automatically in Acrobat.
3. Review the document, then close it.
4. Acrobat.exe commit size climbs 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. GB within seconds.

Reproduced 2 of 4 times using the same steps; the other attempts closed normally, which suggests a timing-dependent issue during close. Opening the same file later from a local folder and closing it has not triggered it. Reading, scrolling, and zooming do not trigger it.

ALREADY TRIED
- Disabled Protected Mode (confirmed a single Acrobat.exe process): issue recurred
- Disabled Acrobat JavaScript
- Help > Repair Installation: issue recurred
- Updated to 2026.002.21931 (from 26.002.21901): issue recurred
- Updated Intel graphics driver to 32.0.101.8974 (WHQL): issue recurred
- Uninstalled the Creative Cloud desktop app: issue recurred
- Disabled generative AI features: monitoring, result pending
- Malware scans are clean. Acrobat.exe runs from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Acrobat\ and makes no network connections during the event.

This is the Collaboration forum and it sounds like your question is about Acrobat. Repost to the Adobe Acrobat forum:
