After clicking EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP in Illustrator, the file wont open and Photoshop cant open any other file, v. 27.7.0, Mac OS. I need to force quit the app to open a file again.

After clicking EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP in Illustrator, the file wont open and Photoshop cant open any other file, v. 27.7.0, Mac OS. I need to force quit the app to open a file again. It happened a lot of times. 

No file is open and the options to create a new file and open file are grayed out (pic). Only option is OPEN RECENT, but if a choose a file it wont open. The app doesnt close too. Need to force quit it.
