Using Adobe Express online and app, using color picker for image shadow change color it freezes all browsers and app. Using Windows I have to force shut down the browsers (Chrome and Edge) in device manager. Changing the color with the Adobe given swatches are ok, just the color picker freezes everything. Using Windows 11, Chrome, Edge browsers and chrome app

    Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for your patience while our team investigated this - we have an update!

Our engineering team has confirmed that the color picker freeze is caused by a bug in the Chromium EyeDropper API, which affects the latest stable version of Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers (Edge, etc.) on Windows. This is not specific to Adobe Express.

The good news is that the fix has already been verified in the Chrome Beta version and is working correctly there. The fix is expected to roll out in Chrome 151, around July 28th. Feel free to track when the next Chrome update is released here: https://browsercalendar.com/browsers/chrome

In the meantime, you have a couple of options:

    1. Switch to Chrome Beta to get the fix right away: https://www.google.com/chrome/beta/ - This should resolve the color picker issue. However, we generally recommend using Adobe Express on the stable (non-beta) version of Chrome for the best experience, so once Chrome 151 is released on July 28th, we'd encourage you to switch back to regular Chrome.
    2. Use an alternative browser like Firefox until the stable Chrome update arrives

If you can confirm that the beta version works for you workflow, that would be great information for my team!

Sorry for the disruption to your workflow!

    Rose

Turning off System > Graphics acceleration worked !! The browser is no longer hanging. To the ones this patch does not work and the browser still hangs, you don't need to close the app in task manager, you can go to another chrome window and type in the address “chrome://restart”

Hi @Dimitris  - thanks for letting us know, can you clarify which version of the Express app you’re using?

I have also found this is happening within Google Slides too whereby Edge is freezing up.

Both Express UI and Google Slides rely heavily on HTML5 Canvas and WebGL engines to hand off tasks to the GPU.

So far I have not had this happen using Chrome in my fleet of PC’s and has been localised to EDGE.

I have changed my GPO for Edge to disable “use Graphics acceleration when available” to see if this helps to mitigate it for either Adobe or Google Slides.

Just wanted to give you some more information to go on.

    Hi @skullnbonz, @tssb111, and @Holly248840709GRE!

Thank you all for flagging this - and @tssb111, I'm really sorry you missed your deadline because of this.

The fact that this started on July 3rd across multiple users/browsers, and that swatches work fine but the custom color picker specifically causes the freeze, strongly suggests something changed on our end. I'm escalating this to our engineering team right away.

In the meantime, could you try disabling hardware acceleration in your browser and see if that helps?

    • Chrome: Settings > System > turn off "Use hardware acceleration when available" > relaunch Chrome
    • Edge: Settings > System and performance > turn off "Use hardware acceleration when available" > relaunch Edge

To help our team investigate further, could you also provide:

    1. A screen recording of the freeze happening - showing the moment you open the color picker and it locks up
    2. A HAR file captured while reproducing the issue. Here's how to generate one: https://helpx.adobe.com/enterprise/kb/generate-har-file.html
    3. Browser version/machine specs - you can find this in your browser's About menu and specifically your OS version.

Possible workaround: if you know your target color value, using the hex input field instead of the color picker wheel/slider may let you get some work done in the meantime.

We'll update this thread as soon as we have more information!

I am using Edge, I did all the above as well. I reset Hardware acceleration. It was already on. I have cleared cache and cookies, temp files. rebooted, updated drivers, all of it. it is happening to all of us all of the sudden on many different browsers.

thank you for your attention to this. I pay for a lot of Adobe products and I am now unable to deliver my work. This isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s my work tool. No delivery, no money… no food. help us out please.

Yes! This is killing my work. I have now missed my deadline. Please. HELP! Exactly what was said above. The color picker in duotone freezes the entire browser. I have done the suggested fixes. Nothing is working. I have spent way too much time checking everything on my end, updates, drivers, etc. How can we get this silliness corrected asap!
