Inconsistent file size limits on image upscale

I’m trying to Upscale a 2.0 MB image, but am told the file is too big. However, yesterday I had no issues Upscaling a 2.2 MB image. This inconsistency offers no direction on what are the file-size limitations, and severely limits my ability to use this otherwise very nice feature.

    Thanks for responding.

    The file is a 2 MB jpg image; and the dimensions are 2279x3419. So far, I’ve only tried to Upscale three images: one 2.2 MB jpg; one 1.3 MB jpg; and this one. The other files produce very nice results. I’ve attached the error message below. I tried Upscaling the same image as a png file, but get the same error message.

    This issue is getting worse and worse. Now I’m down to file sizes of 1.5 MB, different images and different browsers. If I’m having to reduce file size so much from the original, then the value of Upscaling vanishes. Plus there’s that nagging problem of inconsistency. Some files worked, others now refuse to work. What’s the point?

    Can you please upload one or more of the images failed in a zip file and attach to a reply?  Do not upload the images directly as that will convert the images to another format.

    Thanks for sharing your feedback, and I'm sorry you're running into this issue. I understand how frustrating it can be when an image that appears to meet the requirements is rejected, especially when you've successfully upscaled a larger file before.

    To help us investigate, could you please share:

    • The file format of the image (JPG, PNG, WEBP, etc.)
    • The image dimensions (width × height)
    • The exact error message you're seeing
    • Whether this happens with all images or only specific files

    While file size is one factor, other image properties such as dimensions, format, or metadata can also affect whether an image can be processed.

    As a quick test, you might try:

    • Exporting the image again as a new JPG or PNG file
    • Reducing the image dimensions slightly and retesting
    • Trying a different image with a similar file size
    • Refreshing the browser or testing in another supported browser
