Lack of Race Inclusive AI Renderings

Hi -

I noticed even when uploading a reference photo of black individuals and asking firefly to change the clothing colors they are wearing Fire Fly ONLY produces images of individuals of European or hispanic descent. Naturally, this is less than ideal and represents a major functional issue.

Ok, so I just did a prompt for "African woman on the beach" and the results are hilarious, unless you're African, then probably less hilarious and kind of offensive. The woman looks like Paris Hilton. She's on a beach though. So that part is pretty solid. Irish man on a farm delivers....Filipinos, I think. Maybe Mexicans. One Irish farmer looks like Chris Brown. No wonder there's so many of them.

I came here to try and figure out why I can't get mixed-ethnicity people. My daughter is half ethnic Chinese, half Scots-Irish, and looks like both. Vaguely Asian, very pale, red tinged hair and freckles. I uploaded her photo as a reference and specifically prompted for half-Chinese, half-Caucasian girls, and keep getting entirely Asian girls, wearing traditional Chinese costumes no less, like it can't stop itself from falling back on easy stereotypes. When I asked for mixed race people, it gave me...Filipinos...and when I ask for half-black, half-caucasian people, I get very dark skinned, very African looking people. I just promted for "Nordic girl on the beach" and damn but I think those are the girls from Blackpink.

@Cameron25458936y6fp are you specifying your expected race in the prompt? The image upload only affects composition (structure) of the output and style reference looks at the techniques and styles used in the uploaded image. Neither take race into account when uploading. Add a phrase for the ethnicity you want.

Hello @Cameron25458936y6fp,

Thank you for your message. I am sorry you are having this problem.

I am not sure if you are using the image as composition or style reference, but neither of those are likely to consistently lead to a specific race in the generated image from the reference image. The prompt would have more influence on this.

Please feel free to share your reference image and the prompt for us to help with your specific case.

Thanks,
