After Effects GPU Timeout Issue Causing Sluggish Performance

Dear Adobe Support Team,

I am experiencing a significant performance issue with the latest update of After Effects. After some troubleshooting, I have identified that the problem is linked to the "DS.GPUSnifferLaunchTimeout" setting.

Issue Summary:

  • After updating to the latest version of After Effects, the software became noticeably slow and unresponsive, affecting both the user interface and playback previews.

  • The "DS.GPUSnifferLaunchTimeout" was set to 30000 by default. When I changed this value to 0, After Effects' performance returned to normal.

  • However, setting the timeout to 0 results in a warning that "Advanced 3D is disabled," though this does not affect my workflow since I use the Cinema 4D renderer.

Technical Explanation: It seems that the timeout setting causes After Effects to wait for the GPU to initialize, but something in the new update appears to be interfering with this process. As a result:

  • The GPU does not initialize properly, causing AE to fall back to software rendering.

  • This significantly impacts real-time previews, timeline scrubbing, and the overall interface responsiveness, as tasks normally offloaded to the GPU are forced onto the CPU.

  • The delay also seems to create extra latency when data is transferred between the CPU and GPU, further compounding the sluggishness.

System Specifications:

  • GPU: AMD 6600 XT (drivers fully updated)

  • The issue did not occur in the previous version of After Effects.

Temporary Workaround: While setting "DS.GPUSnifferLaunchTimeout" to 0 mitigates the performance lag, this seems to be a band-aid fix, and I am concerned about potential side effects, such as the disabling of certain GPU functionalities.

Could you please investigate this issue and confirm if there have been any changes to GPU initialization or timeout handling in the latest update? I would appreciate any guidance on a more permanent solution.

Thank you for your time and support.

Best regards,

Daniel

I was having the same issue, so I got back to the previous version.

But now I know a solution. Go to the project settings, on the video rendering and effects tab, change the Mercury GPU Acceleration (OpenCL) to ...(CUDA). That solved the problem for me.

i got a solution For U.. Press CTRL+f12 For Console Options. Then Right Click On console And Go To  Debugging Option

Search For Gpu  And Deactivate All options also make all Gpu Values to 0. Then Restart Your After Effects. It'll Work ♥️

@abhishek_7845, is there a dedicated GPU installed on your computer? If yes, what's the make and model? Is the driver updated? Can you try running After Effects in Safe Mode with third-party plug-ins disabled and see if that brings any change?

Let us know.

Thanks,

Nishu
