AE 2025 lagging on everything

Today AE starting seriously lagging and responding to anything.  Timeline frozen.  In one example working with one ten second video, the only video in the project.   Cache is clear, mouse and keyboard are wired.  This problem didn’t start until halfway through the day.  This was happening with 2026 version which is why I went back to 2025.  Mac Studio M2 Max / Sequoia / 64G ram, 90% of which allocated to AE.

    Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear about the issue.

    Could you help us with a bit more info?

    • Does the lag happen in a new blank project as well?

    • Did anything change before this started (update, plugin install, OS change)?

    • Does After Effects version 2025 work without giving you the problem?

    • Does switching to Mercury Software Only (in File > Project Settings) improve things?

    Also, if you can share a short screen recording, that would really help us understand the behavior better.

    This issue started around the time that Sequoia updated to 15.7.4.  Version 2025 is causing just as much of a problem as 2026 was.  In a new blank project the problem happens when a new video layer is added.  In all cases, when another comp (with video) is added to the current comp timeline, all video in multiple layers stops.  Switching to Mercury Software Only does not have any effect.
